They are arranged in different directions creating thus fibre families with a main direction and a certain dispersion. The number of this families in different arteries and their layers is still questionable although many researchers presume existence of two helical fibre families. We have analysed histograms published in three papers and shown that the presumption on two fibre families may be misleading; in some cases, unimodal or isotropic distributions gave a better quality of the fit than the bimodal distribution. Although we expected that information criteria could strengthen our objections against the generally applied assumption on two fibre families in arterial wall, this was not confirmed and the preferred approximation function was always the same for both of the compared criteria (Akaike information criterion and coefficient of determination R 2 ).","PeriodicalId":383836,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Mechanics 2020","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128593991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of mechanical treatment in the process of obtaining a sample of a structure to determine these indicators causes damage to its surface, leading to defects in the shape and position of the outline. The paper presents the results of studies leading to the demonstration of the influence of these defects on the values of the BV/TV and the apparent Young's modulus. These results justify the necessity to select the theoretical shape of a cylinder from the scanned images in order to define the geometrical shape of a representative sample. The paper presents a method for determining the parameters of this cylinder based on the best-fit cylinder algorithm.","PeriodicalId":383836,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Mechanics 2020","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126263495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Review of already existing examples was made, which allowed us to establish basic assumptions for creating the device. The best concept was modeled as a 3D CAD model, a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was performed in order to check if the device is safe to use in terms of its ability of withstanding the weight of drugs put inside of the device as well as possible additional items which could be put in drugs-housing compartments, and finally a physical example of the device was manufactured.","PeriodicalId":383836,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Mechanics 2020","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125326086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This proposed type of dynamic load acts along the entire driving path, its intensity is adjustable, and it can be very efficient in the case of resonance. However, higher harmonic components are an inevitable effect of this type of loading, complicating the vibration analysis. The present study investigates suitable procedures to detect and locate damage in structures using a cogwheel load and only one or a few transducers mounted on the bridge. This arrangement seems to be sensitive to early damage indication. Damage localization is also possible, but further research will be required to increase its credibility.","PeriodicalId":383836,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Mechanics 2020","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121643239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article presents a picture of the changes in the technical condition of a not refurbished building constructed in traditional technology, in the form of a function describing the aging process according to the PRRD (Prediction of Reliability according to Rayleigh Distribution) model developed by the author. The results of analyses of the relationships between the function of the intensity of damage and the function of unreliability, as well as the function of changes in the performance characteristics of a building which had not undergone refurbishment during the entire course of its use are presented. Three levels of damage intensity during subsequent years of using the building were determined: safe, critical and unacceptable intensity. The presented methodology of describing changes in the intensity of damage, unreliability and performance characteristics over the course of the service life of a building is a diagnostic process of predicting the technical condition of a residential building.","PeriodicalId":383836,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Mechanics 2020","volume":"504 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123067270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Air used to cool down engine and accessories influence car drag and increase fuel consumption. Evaluating design of car is done in wind tunnel with steady conditions. Air flowing thru heat exchanger must be measured to compare models and simulation. Method for measuring air mass flow is demonstrated at Formula Student car equipped with measuring propeller located downstream of cooling fan. Pressures are measured for control and provide data which are necessary to evaluate cooling design. Recirculation is addressed and method how to deal with this effect is presented. By using air guide upstream heat exchanger air mass flow is increased at high speed and at low speed recirculation is eliminated.","PeriodicalId":383836,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Mechanics 2020","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127919670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In machine construction aluminum alloys are commonly used, which the 5xxx series alloys are characterized by high strength and corrosion resistance. The work presents the properties of EN AW-5754 alloy, which is a material that allows joining elements by welding. The aim of the paper is to present mechanical properties test results of EN AW-5754 alloy welded joints with the 131 method for various values of linear welding energy: Q = 70 kJ/mm and Q = 1280 kJ/mm. The obtained results indicate a significant influence of linear welding energy on the strength of the welded joint.","PeriodicalId":383836,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Mechanics 2020","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129450913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, uncertainties that accompany the method, limit its practical application in designing of the new structures to prediction e.g. deflection or other displacement related calculation. Prediction of the bearing capacity is sometimes used in the case of the assessment of existing structures. The broadest application of NLFEA can be found in experimental research because from the tests obtained results it is possible to calibrate the FE models. The paper deals with the influence of some key parameters on the results of NLFEA used for prediction punching capacity of flat slab specimen without shear reinforcement. The dimensions of the finite elements are tested as well as input parameters of used material model for concrete using software Atena.","PeriodicalId":383836,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Mechanics 2020","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131572372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, the procedure incorporates the alternating frequency-time domain technique and the arc-length parameterization to solve the steady-state response of nonlinear systems in efficient manner, including unstable branches. The stability of the motion was assessed by two methods: the 2n-pass method and Hill’s method. The procedure was verified on an example from literature to prove its sufficient accuracy and subsequently, the procedure was applied on the finite element model of the rotor system mounted on the squeeze film dampers. The carried out computational simulations confirmed that the created procedure is efficient for the strongly nonlinear response and it gives similar results as the time integration.","PeriodicalId":383836,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Mechanics 2020","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131868035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
