By using medical imaging techniques, in a non-intrusive way, the surgeon has the opportunity to obtain 3D views, reconstruction of the regions of interest (ROIs), useful to increase understanding of the PRS patient's condition. In this paper, a semi-automatic approach for segmentation of the upper airways is proposed. The implemented approach uses an edge-driven 3D region-growing algorithm to segment ROIs and 3D volume-rendering technique to reconstruct the 3D model of the upper airways. This method can be used to integrate information inside a medical decision support system, making it possible to enhance medical evaluation. The effectiveness of the proposed segmentation approach was evaluated using Jaccard (92.1733%) and Dice (94.6441%) similarity indices and specificity (96.8895%) and sensitivity (97.6682%) rates. The proposed method achieved an average computation time reduced by a 16x factor with respect to manual segmentation.","PeriodicalId":383612,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Adaptive and Innovative Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127725159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, information consumers are facing the challenges of choosing the right content and get accumulated with confusion. Inevitably intelligent tutoring system (ITS) has gained a great deal of attention in this area. This work examines the existing ITS, presents the design and implementation of self-adaptive agent-based tutoring system aimed for engineering students to learn java. Device adaptation and content adaptation are supported in this system. The key aspect of the proposed system is that each agent is deployed based on monitor analyse plan execute (MAPE) reference model. Hence, adaptation is achieved at each agent level which leads to entire system adaptable. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the system, it is experimented with 80 students studying in VI semester of BTECH degree. The evaluation result reveals that 80% of slow learner's performances are improved gradually.","PeriodicalId":383612,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Adaptive and Innovative Systems","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133869715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article we present a knowledge-based consultancy system designed to enable novel methods for web-based training with advanced features. This study aims to develop a new approach using ICT Newhouse indicators with reasoning techniques capable of handling both explicit and tacit knowledge using a fuzzy rule-based approach in which linguistic (semantic) terms are used to express rules and preferences. The fuzzy rules are implemented using forward and backward chaining techniques. Evaluation of our proposed approach has utilised testing using 12 courses at Hanoi University of Science and Technology with experts feedback using the three reasoning rule levels in the knowledge base to realise precise definition(s) of performance and quality of outcomes. Experimental results derived in the third layer demonstrate that the proposed approach achieved is the highest being in the range of 84% to 90% compared to expert's responses in respect of the correct answers, combined events, and results of other rules in the knowledge base. As compared to alternative conventional approaches which use forward and backward chaining, the performance of the proposed approach shows improvements measured by responses in real-time when applied to the web-based training with automated reasoning dialogue consultants.","PeriodicalId":383612,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Adaptive and Innovative Systems","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131732515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different mathematical models were considered for conducting researches regarding the longitudinal flight with constant forward velocity, applicable for unmanned aerial vehicles. In the context of these models there is a high interest for numerical investigation related to the effect of neglecting nonlinearities as concerns the accuracy of the flying qualities prediction for different particular movements of the unattended flying vehicle around its centre of mass. Particularly, when the automatic flight control system fails, at any stage of the flight, it may lead to the occurrence of oscillatory movements, which may drastically affect the integrity of the aircraft, especially in the landing phase. Given the large amount of computational effort that could be required by the different numerical investigations, an agile and scalable solution, adaptable to different variations of the mathematical models, is required. The multi-actor solution presented in this paper was developed in relation with a set of initial execution scenarios, described for various flight conditions.","PeriodicalId":383612,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Adaptive and Innovative Systems","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114950414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
