The evaluation of subjective speech quality-which is the basis for scoring by transformation on a subjective speech quality scale-is obtained by scientifically carried out speech investigations on a wide variety of possible speech samples in the German D1 network. The theoretically-determined transformations were confirmed by extensive measurements, which consider many parameters, like different fading profiles or length of the speech material. Furthermore this work gives hints to the visualisation of the predicted speech quality.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":383541,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115698690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, the information theoretic value of the capacity of such a channel is not well defined because of the time-varying nature of the fading process. At best, the value of the capacity may be seen as a random variable evolving in time and whose distribution can be evaluated. The approach which has been followed in estimating the capacity uses a quasi-static model which computes the distribution over a large class of time dispersive possible realizations of the channel. Our final estimate of the numerical value of the capacity is based on the determination of an outage value corresponding to the 99% point on the cumulative distribution function. Our main result shows that a significant increase in the value of the capacity can be obtained by exploiting the inherent multipath diversity of the channel.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":383541,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC)","volume":"192 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124268874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We investigate the use of channel equalization to increase the coverage area of DECT in large delays spread environments. We show that it is possible to use all equalizer and still stay within the DECT-common air interface. The equalizer structure is a decision feedback equalizer (DFE). The packet synchronizing word, which is used for slot synchronization, is used as trailing sequence for tap gain adjustment. For adaptation a recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm is used. The results show that the tolerable delay spread for receivers with an adaptive equalizer can be significantly increased depending on the length of the equalizer.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":383541,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125886194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this method, a linear feedback equalizer at IF band is controlled by evaluating the target function which is defined as mean square error at decision sampling instants. The principle of this method is based on the fact that frequency demodulated signals take given discrete values at the sampling instants if the equalization succeeds. As the adaptive algorithm, the authors adopt the Powell method, that is a general method of search for the minimum value. They propose to repeat the Powell method in order to reach the minimum value avoiding local minimum points. A computer simulation experiment is carried out assuming a two-level FM system with limiter-discriminator detection under two- and three-ray models including minimum- and non-minimum phase shift conditions. The convergence of the equalizer to the minimum value is confirmed. Together with equalization characteristics error rate performance is shown.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":383541,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122869660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
