The spectral images were acquired with an acousto-optic system, which allows the acquisition of grayscale pictures in a narrow range of wavelengths. The series of images acquired for the entire visible spectrum, allows simple digital operations, perform segmentation processes. The segmentation is based on the analysis of spectral components over regions of the image. This type of processing is compared with traditional digital processing. The experimental results demonstrate that the segmentation processes developed with the acousto-optical system in conjunction with digital techniques of image processing, reduce the computational cost without compromise the quality of the segmentation.","PeriodicalId":383297,"journal":{"name":"2012 XVII Symposium of Image, Signal Processing, and Artificial Vision (STSIVA)","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114895009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Every EEG register analyzed in this study contains 26 channels and was acquired in closed- and opened-eyes conditions, during pre- and post-treatment states. Four measures of complexity were applied: largest Lyapunov exponent, correlation dimension, Lempel-Ziv complexity and Hurst exponent. The purpose was to determine if these measures detect quantitative changes from the information contained in the EEG registers as consequence of the neurofeedback therapy. The results of this work indicate that Lempel-Ziv complexity and largest Lyapunov exponent could have a potential utility to detect quantitative differences between pre- and post-treatment in some specific channels. In contrast, correlation dimension and Hurst exponent provided scarce information about these differences. The most noticeable results were found in opened-eyes condition.","PeriodicalId":383297,"journal":{"name":"2012 XVII Symposium of Image, Signal Processing, and Artificial Vision (STSIVA)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130690138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to calculate the VRT it is necessary to determine the End of the Empting Maneuvers (EEM). The automation of this process has been identified as a difficult task. Some methods described previously have some difficulties that could be solved. This paper proposes a new method for the automatic detection of the EEM. The new proposed method was compared with other based on sound signals. The annotations made by two trained human observers on 41 photoplethysmography records, were also used as a reference for evaluating the methods. The presented method was more accurate, showing a performance comparable to the observers.","PeriodicalId":383297,"journal":{"name":"2012 XVII Symposium of Image, Signal Processing, and Artificial Vision (STSIVA)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117039802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Locomotion in modular snake-like robots is made from gaits that involve the entire body structure, in this particular work we use a modular snake-like robot consisting of 16 modules located 90 degrees rotated one with respect to the previous, this robot is built from Dynamixel AX-12 servos, these servos provide load information based on torque and power consumption. This article presents an analysis from two classifiers, supervised and unsupervised for load temporary data in each of the 16 modules, for three different gaits used in the robot, linear progression, side winding and lateral rolling to make an identification of the characteristics of the surface on which the robot is moving, all without the need for other external sensors. The reported results are obtained by applying two classification techniques, the first supervised (SVM) and the second unsupervised (K-means). Is concluded that it is possible to make a classification between surfaces, knowing previously the selected gait, reaching even to 100% accurancy for certain gaits.","PeriodicalId":383297,"journal":{"name":"2012 XVII Symposium of Image, Signal Processing, and Artificial Vision (STSIVA)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128221430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A machine learning based methodology is proposed to recognize a predefined set of hand gestures using depth images. For such purpose, a RGBD sensor (Microsoft kinect) is employed to track the hand position. Thus, a preprocessing stage is presented to subtract the region of interest from depth images. Moreover, a learning algorithm based on kernel methods is used to discover the relationships among samples, properly describing the studied gestures. Proposed methodology aims to obtain a representation space which allow us to identify the dynamic of hand movements. Attained results show how our approach presents a suitable performance for detecting different hand gestures. As future work, we are interested in recognize more complex human activities, in order to support the development of human-computer interface systems.","PeriodicalId":383297,"journal":{"name":"2012 XVII Symposium of Image, Signal Processing, and Artificial Vision (STSIVA)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122857193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its implications are very important, with applications ranging from machine intelligence and interaction to psychology research. In order to obtain a viable system, it is necessary to get valid parameters to characterize the facial expression in an image or a video sequence. Several different techniques have been implemented, using global-based, local-based and hybrid methods. In our work we developed a new algorithm based on POEM algorithms. We tested the performance using the Cohn-Kanade database and we compared the results with algorithms using geometric features and regular LBP patterns. Additionally, since the parameters have high linear and non-linear dependence they don't have an homogeneous statistic importance as descriptors, so we performed data mining processing. Our results show that POEM-based algorithms have high performance and low cost, even with low resolution images, outperforming most of traditional state of the art works. Preliminary tests also show the viability of using meta classifiers in order to further improve the performance.","PeriodicalId":383297,"journal":{"name":"2012 XVII Symposium of Image, Signal Processing, and Artificial Vision (STSIVA)","volume":"699 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122986265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Radiation in the environment is estimated by using the eye area of the individuals present in the scene, to the region of the face is calculated with different metrics which seeks to establish an estimate of the amount of IR radiation. The metrics used correspond to energy, contrast, homogeneity and entropy using the correlation matrix of gray being used in order to characterize and establish IR radiation ranges in which optimal conditions presented images in regard to their characteristics the results obtained show that the eye area used as pattern has features that could be used to estimate changes of IR radiation in the environment, so it can be used to calculate the metrics described above which will serve as input algorithms to maximize contrast and illumination compensation for the purpose of exercising adaptive corrections on image sequences. Also the contrast maximization algorithm and illumination compensation demonstrated adequate corrections on the infrared images compared to corrections made by the art without adaptability is, when IR radiation is estimated by a pattern, however noise components of the image initial produce some corrections made clearer image noise.","PeriodicalId":383297,"journal":{"name":"2012 XVII Symposium of Image, Signal Processing, and Artificial Vision (STSIVA)","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124644119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithms designed for this purpose cannot be evaluated by performance index, since the fetal electrocardiogram is not known a priori. In this paper we review the different models to generate synthetic or semi-synthetic databases, and the performance index to evaluate algorithms. We describe the development of a semi-synthetic database to measure the performance of the jadeR algorithm and PCA algorithm, before different combinations of signal to interference and signal to noise, with Gaussian white noise and pink noise. It is found that both algorithms are susceptible to noise, especially Gaussian white noise. The PCA algorithm has a better performance in cases of low noise and high maternal interference.","PeriodicalId":383297,"journal":{"name":"2012 XVII Symposium of Image, Signal Processing, and Artificial Vision (STSIVA)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127091922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, it has been proposed the use of the discrete transform in order to make the pre-processing, signal filtering and detection of QRS complex; also the continuous transform to correct R and S wave detection as well as for the T wave, enabling the characteristics components identification in ECG signal. The algorithm was implemented in MATLAB® software and the QT Database was used for validation, considering the detection and delineation in signals with small or negative polarity QRS complex; and inverted T waves or with depression or elevation in the ST segment. For QRS complex it was found a sensibility Se=99,8% and a positive predictivity of P+=99,8%; and for the T wave a sensibility of Se=97,6 and a positive predictivity of P+=97,4%. The results show that the algorithm can be applied in signals with different morphologies even with low Signal to noise ratio and baseline.","PeriodicalId":383297,"journal":{"name":"2012 XVII Symposium of Image, Signal Processing, and Artificial Vision (STSIVA)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115064321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
