These economic benefits are expected to extend to some extent to their immediate neighboring buildings, thus encouraging growth in the local real estate market and partially satisfying the triple bottom line of sustainability. This study examined the impact of a LEED and/or Energy Star certified office building on the median unit market value of neighboring buildings in New York City based on five different proximity bands relative to the certified office building. Both spatial and statistical methods were utilized. LEED and/or Energy Star certified office buildings were found to exert various spillover effects on the median unit market value of buildings in each sub-neighborhood depending on the proximity of each building to the LEED and/or Energy Star certified office building. These spillover effects support the mutual growth of LEED and/or Energy Star certified office buildings and their neighborhoods from a socio-economic standpoint.","PeriodicalId":38108,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45257270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accuracy of earthwork estimation, especially the estimation of a rock layer directly affects the overall productivity since rock layer excavation requires additional rock breaking process to break down the rock layer into manageable smaller pieces. In order to make a decision on the construction method in the construction area, earthwork engineers must have an intuitive understanding of the distribution of underground rock strata. The only available way to estimate rock layers is acquiring boring data from an actual earthwork site and interpolate each layer. Accurate modeling of the rock layer is of utmost important process during earthwork estimation for planning energy efficient excavation. This study used Kriging interpolation, as an important research content of geological three-dimensional visualization to accurately create rock layer. Kriging interpolation not only considers the spatial relationship between variables, but also takes into account the structural and stochastic characteristics of variables, so that it can fully represent the structural information of regionalized variables. The accuracy of rock mass calculation is analyzed by means of actual dataset from a test site, and it showed that the accuracy of Kriging-based model excels the original model.","PeriodicalId":38108,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68341053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It affects the performances of the societal challenge of designing real sustainable school buildings, as well as the educational and social processes, and its end-user performances. Conventional building construction approaches build traditionally their designs on a syntheses of dialogues and consensus during decision-making processes, due to a variety of different interests. Principals define their ambitions and requirements into a team of mainly technical domain related disciplines. There are no design methods available that connect human systems and ecosystems integrated and balance the dynamic multi-level scaled mechanisms of human needs and sustainability development factors. The presented analytic framework recognizes similarity patterns between these multi-level scaled social systems, ecosystems and sustainable development entities, qualitatively as well as quantitatively. It delivers a new polarity based dynamic system that contributes to the client briefs and physical building morphological factors from a more sustainable development base. This theoretical approach establishes Sustainability-Centered Guidelines for primary schools (SCGs) design and building.","PeriodicalId":38108,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66309726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Early Years Centre in London uses canopy spaces to provide an environmental shelter while minimising the disturbance from unwanted weather. Environmental measurements and simulations were performed with regard to thermal comfort and daylight. The fieldwork identifies the diverse environmental roles of the transitional space for both outdoor and indoor spaces and how the application of such spaces can make environmental conditions in schools better or worse. The issues raised during the fieldwork suggest a need to develop design strategies in order to improve the environmental conditions of transitional outdoor spaces and adjacent indoor classrooms.","PeriodicalId":38108,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/2093761X.2016.1237394","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"60075757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the performance of light-transmitting concrete (LTC) specimens made by using different dosages and spacings of POF is investigated. The properties of POF are investigated and discussed. The experimental results show that LTC can provide a high light-transmitting ratio. This paper contributes to the determination of new alternatives for sustainable construction around the world. LTC can help to reduce power consumption in buildings by allowing natural light to shine into the building interior through external walls. This paper adds distinctive knowledge to the area of sustainable construction by studying the effect of POF on the properties and performance of concrete. In addition, the use of POF in concrete can lead to an increase in compressive strength.","PeriodicalId":38108,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/2093761X.2016.1237396","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"60075797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While these efforts have been successful in shifting the industry towards more sustainable practices, they have had limited success in reducing the sector’s total energy consumption and carbon emissions. This paper discusses how the intended purpose of architecture has contributed to this shortfall, and how it has obstructed the potential environmental benefits of emerging building technologies. It is argued that if the fundamental way in which buildings are designed remains unchanged then it is likely that the targets for reducing carbon emissions will not be met, and that an increase in these emissions will occur. The paper also provides insights into how these shortcomings might be mitigated to ensure that future built environments are created and created using truly sustainable concepts ...","PeriodicalId":38108,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/2093761X.2016.1237397","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"60075833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
