This research is aimed at providing a guide for the evaluation of architectural design requirements for energy efficiency in city hotels, allowing the creation of a database with the main architectural design problems that affect the energy efficiency of this category of hotels. Carraz Hernández","doi":"10.32629/jbt.v5i1.1127","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.32629/jbt.v5i1.1127","url":null,"abstract":"Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a geophysical method that has several applications in the field of civil engineering, one of the largest fields being the evaluation of the technical state of the affected reinforced concrete structures by corrosion. In Cuba, this method has not been widely used as a non destructive test (NDT), largely due to the lack of knowledge of its potential in civil engineering. This article performs a critical analysis of some investigations in which the georadar is applied to evaluate the technical state of tunnels, bridges and buildings. The regulatory framework that protects the use of the georadar as NDT in the world and the applications that it has had so far in Cuba are addressed. The structural reinforcements were carried out in a project with 3 residential towers of approximately 30 floors each, located on the seafront. In this method, a test vehicle passing through the bridge surface, and structural vibration acceleration responses at two measuring points are measured from two acceleration sensors, which one set on the bridge, and the other one set on the test vehicle. A fixed moving window is defined as a definitive length calculated by the sampling frequency and the fundamental frequency of the measured acceleration responses. The windowed pair time series extracted from the two measured acceleration responses that obtained from the bridge and the moving vehicle respectively are used to calculate the transfer entropy, which is used to define the new damage index. A simply supported beam bridge subjected to a test vehicle is simulated to verify the effectiveness and feasibility of this method. Numerical simulation results show that this method can accurately detect the damages under both single damage scenarios and multiple damage scenarios using acceleration responses obtained from bridge and moving vehicle. Nie","doi":"10.32629/jbt.v3i1.423","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.32629/jbt.v3i1.423","url":null,"abstract":"A novel damage detection approach based on Auto-encoder neural network is proposed to identify damage in beam-like bridges subjected to a moving mass. In this approach, several sensors are used to measure structural vibration responses during a mass moving across the bridge. An auto-encoder (AE) neural network is designed to extract features from the measured responses. A fixed moving window is used to cut out the time-domain responses to generate inputs of the AE neural network. Moreover, some constraints are applied on the hidden layer to improve the performance of the AE network in training process. When the training is complete, the encoder was regarded as a feature extractor. And the damage index is defined as the cosine distance between two feature vectors obtained from adjacent data windows. By moving the window along the measured vibration data, we can calculate a damage index series and locate the damage position of the structure. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, numerical simulation is carried out. The results show that the proposed method can accurately locate both single and multiple damages using acceleration response.
