A case study carried out in Sri Lanka found that ERP adoptions along with other appropriate mechanisms can be a catalyst for the transformation of organizational culture. A little over 10 years after going live, the organizational culture that has inhibited the achievement of benefits from the western-developed ERP system is slowly changing at the case organization. Cultural transformation (user-behavior pattern change) in the case company occurred by accepting three out of four user-behavior patterns assumed by the western-developed ERP systems to a noticeable extent. Furthermore, case organization used several mechanisms such as company-wide education programs, phased-out implementation approach, recruiting an increasing number of young professionals to facilitate the transformation process taking place through the ERP adoption. Additionally, from this evidence, it can be deduced that organizational culture may not be static, over time they may be changed through various mechanisms.","PeriodicalId":380801,"journal":{"name":"2012 45th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131024414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Deciding to start-up mining Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) is a challenging task in Uganda. Research on SME start-up support is limitedly available. Technology is envisaged to facilitate enterprise start-ups. However, there is still acknowledged deficiency in Uganda due to discrete approaches of technology, stakeholders and processes. There is lack of a generalized and systematic means to SME start-up that emphasizes communication and prioritization. Hence, this design science research aims to enhance SME start-up processes with a decision enhancement studio which consists of services for participants in an interactive environment that analyzes decision alternatives. Results from this study suggest that the start-up decision processes can be improved using technology in rural areas.","PeriodicalId":380801,"journal":{"name":"2012 45th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124515288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However it is known in the community that the predictive validity of user attitudes on behavioral intention to adopt ICT suffers from inconsistencies. Being a basic predictor of behavioral intention in models like TRA or TPB, user attitudes turned out not to be predictive of behavior in other studies [1]. Some authors have addressed this problem and introduced solution approaches based on splitting the construct into four different sub constructs. This paper evaluates these approaches on the basis of social psychological literature, PLS results of a survey, and scientometric data of fourteen IS top journals. The findings indicate that the problem of insignificance is not caused by a conceptual misspecification, but rather by a combination of conceptual and situational factors affecting the relationship between attitude and behavioral intention.","PeriodicalId":380801,"journal":{"name":"2012 45th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124560569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By sharing the experiences of challenges faced in ICT planning and implementation at an organization which works for the empowerment of the poor self employed women in India, the study discusses various issues related to such organizations. The study also establishes the fact that the issues of such organizations which cater to the needs of the bottom of the pyramid are very much different from that of the large profit making companies. The paper refers to various models that are used for technology planning at various organizations and emphasizes on the issues of implementing the same in these types of organizations.","PeriodicalId":380801,"journal":{"name":"2012 45th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131922486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However as a precursor to this, there is a need within an organization to measure and monitor its agility. The clients also would be interested to know the level of agility of their vendors. While the need for an effective metric is well established, the subjective nature of the parameters involved, and the need for some degree of generality makes the task of assessing agility a difficult one. This paper is an attempt to arrive at a quantifiable, scalable framework to measure the same. Apart from giving a framework which can be used to assess the agility of a company, this paper indicates how a detailed sensitivity analysis can be done with respect to the parameters that define agility.","PeriodicalId":380801,"journal":{"name":"2012 45th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132838586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, the goal is to examine whether and how the flow experience impacts on learning outcomes and what is the relationship between flow experience, learning outcomes, and perceived usefulness. The participants of this study were 116 university students attending a spreadsheet course on a voluntary basis. The data analysis was conducted using structural equation modelling. The results show that the elements of flow experience in this context are similar to those of Csikszentmihalyi, such as, balance between skills and challenges, the clarity of goals, concentration, time distortion, and enjoyment. Furthermore, the flow positively impacts learning outcomes. Surprisingly, learning outcomes is not directly affected by perceived usefulness.","PeriodicalId":380801,"journal":{"name":"2012 45th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"37 17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116789254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a method for increasing security assurance of embedded systems without reducing system performance. This method employs a systemic dissolution of architected resources that reduces the attack surface of embedded systems. We show that attacks which insert foreign instructions or modify existing instructions are impossible against systems hardened using this method. We further show that systems hardened using this method are difficult if not impossible to compromise using attacks that re-use existing program logic by diverting control flow, such as return-into-libc. We discuss advantages and shortcomings of this method, and describe a prototype that applies the method to programs targeted for the Intel 8051.","PeriodicalId":380801,"journal":{"name":"2012 45th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128499648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Development activities are typically distributed in different places and involve multiple stakeholders in different countries. Testing is an important way to ensure product quality but it is costly and takes ample time and resources. Sourcing testing services from specialized service providers is often the most viable option for software businesses. Flexible and effective test process management is especially vital to support the testing life-cycle when external testing service providers are involved. Yet, the extant literature provides little theoretical guidance for managing the testing life-cycle, including requirements, test, and defect management. This paper develops an Information Systems Design Product Theory for the class of integrated Requirements, Test and Defect Management Systems based on a case study and a literature review. This theory helps clients and testing service providers to manage and control the testing process, make the process transparent and seamless, and improve service effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":380801,"journal":{"name":"2012 45th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"416 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122804655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article, we propose and empirically validate a conceptual model of key factors that affect users' attitude and intention to use social tagging systems. Our findings highlight three new factors and confirm two previous factors. In addition to Perceived Enjoyment and Perceived Ease-of-use, we introduce Content Generation, Information Retrievability, and Information Re-findability as new dimensions affecting the use of social tagging systems. Our goal is to help researchers, designers, and managers of tagging systems and other social systems on the Web understand how to motivate users to increase their use and hence harvest the collaborative and sharing benefits associated with these tools.","PeriodicalId":380801,"journal":{"name":"2012 45th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132404137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is the first attempt to evaluate firm efficiency by incorporating the effect of IT capability using a sample of small- and medium-sized enterprises in China and adopting the two-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach. The efficiency of Chinese enterprises is estimated using DEA. The estimated efficiency score of the enterprises is then regressed on a set of variables in which measures of IT capability are the focus. The input-based DEA results indicated that about 35% of existing inputs were required to produce existing output had the enterprises been efficient. The Tobit results showed that the better IT competency of employees was, the more overall and pure technical efficient the enterprise was. Also, enterprises located in the coastal area were found to be less efficient while enterprises with smaller size operated with more scale efficient.","PeriodicalId":380801,"journal":{"name":"2012 45th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115966806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
