Net-sweeping revealed catches of adult flies which were identified using appropriate taxonomic keys, but insects collected by sticky boards were mutilated and identification was not possible.Eight species of flies found exhibited the breadth of dipteran diversity; three families represented the suborder Nematocera  (Scatopsidae, Sciaridae and Empididae) and five of the suborder Brachycera namely,  Mycophila (Cecidomyiidae), Pipunculus (Pipunculidae), Porcenus (Heleomyzidae), Leptocera (Sphaeroceridae), and Desmometopa (Milichiidae).  The most abundant fly was Desmometopa in the eight weekly samplings done signifying that the mushroom substrate is supporting this fly population. Desmometopa, as well as Porcenus and Scatopsidae flies are known detritivores while Sciaridae and Cecidomyiidae represented by Mycophila are known fungivores.. Pipunculus and the Empididae fly are endoparasite and predator, respectively.","PeriodicalId":379508,"journal":{"name":"CLSU International Journal of Science & Technology","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121446179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, it aimed to determine the current situation of agriculture in five (5) major onion producing municipality; assess the level of human powered, draft powered and mechanically powered mechanization technology used; analyze the mechanization index and land productivity determine the possible hindrances of mechanization; and make recommendation relative to the mechanization of onion production in the province. The five (5) study sited are major onion producing municipalities in Nueva Ecija namely Laur, Gabaldon, Bongabon, Rizal, and Talavera with production areas of 411.9ha, 1,587ha, 2,695.5ha, 1,107ha, and 520ha, respectively with a total of 6,321.4ha. An average of 3.25hp per ha is available for onion production.The level of mechanization at 0.79kW/ha of human power, 0.10kW/ha of animal power and 1.90kW/ha mechanical power are utilized in field operations has a total of 55.11kW/ha for onion production. Moreover, the mechanization index of the onion production in Nueva Ecija were computed at 0.715 or 71.5%, labor productivity at 1.375 kW/ha, and land productivity at 9.06 MT/ha. Meanwhile, major hindrances on mechanization of onion production in Nueva Ecija is the expensiveness of machines that are available in the market which is unaffordable to farmers who have small farm sizes. Thus, they prefer to borrow or rent machines to perform their farm operations.  Land preparation, spraying, and irrigation are among the field operations that utilizes mechanical power. Whereas, transplanting, crop establishment, and harvesting are done manually. This situation requires the farmers to hire laborers when needed.","PeriodicalId":379508,"journal":{"name":"CLSU International Journal of Science & Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129904155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fruits of three local banana varieties, namely lakatan, latundan, and saba were used in the preparation of culture media. The mycelial growth and mycelial density were determined. Moreover, different banana-based substrate formulations such as 100% banana leaves, 75% banana leaves + 25% sawdust, 50% banana leaves + 50% sawdust, 25% banana leaves + 75% sawdust,  and 100% sawdust were evaluated. The rice straw-based substrate formulation consisting of 70% rice straw and 30% sawdust was used as the control. Saba sucrose gulaman exhibited faster mycelial growth (11.79mm / day) and thick mycelial density. On the other hand, potato dextrose agar (control) recorded the smallest mycelial growth (9.33 mm / day) and very thick mycelial density. Among the different substrate formulations, 70% rice straw + 30% sawdust (control) exhibited shorter incubation period (26.73 days) and shorter duration of primordial formation (28.93days). However, 50% banana leaves + 50% sawdust exhibited highest yield (136.51 g) and highest biological efficiency (19.50%).","PeriodicalId":379508,"journal":{"name":"CLSU International Journal of Science & Technology","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131387871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present work, we evaluated the influence of light emitting diode (LED) on the growth of mycelia, fruiting body production and antioxidant activities of L. tigrinus . The culture plates and fruiting bags were incubated and grown in an improvised LED chamber, and the DPPH radical scavenging activity and the total phenolic content of the harvested fruiting bodies were determined. Mycelia in blue LED recorded the widest mycelial diameter (88.83 mm) while fluorescent light showed the lowest mycelial growth (78.33 mm). However, L. tigrinus grown on the 8 parts of rice-straw and 2 parts of sawdust exposed under blue LED registered the shortest incubation period (12.33 days) and primordial initiation (17.67 days), highest number of fruiting bodies (27.67), yield (37.59 g), and biological efficiency (12.53%). Fruiting bodies harvested from the dark condition recorded the wides  t diameter of pileus and longest stipe. Moreover, among color LED, the highest phenolic content (25.04 mg gallic acid equivalent per g sample) and radical scavenging activity (61.29%) were noted in those grown under blue and red LEDs, respectively.","PeriodicalId":379508,"journal":{"name":"CLSU International Journal of Science & Technology","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133930588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study determined the embryo-toxic and teratogenic effects of extract of fruiting bodies of T. celebica on the developing zebrafish ( Danio rerio ) embryos and elucidated the secondary metabolites. Extract at 2% or higher concentrations of T. celebica caused 100% mortality rate of zebrafish embryo with coagulation as the most distinct toxic effect. Embryos exposed at 0.5% and 1% concentrations showed delayed hatching process resulting to the presence of abnormalities. The distinct teratogenic effects of T. celebica were tail malformations, delayed growth, and head deformation. The effects were found dependent on the concentration and time of exposure. Further, the fruiting bodies of T. celebica contain alkaloids, fatty acids, triterpenes, sterols, steroids, anthraquinones, anthrones, and steroids. Altogether, T. celebica has promising bioactivities which can be utilized in the nutraceutical or pharmacological industry.","PeriodicalId":379508,"journal":{"name":"CLSU International Journal of Science & Technology","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121521877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Continued evaluation and development of novel detection methods for accurate diagnosis are highly warranted. This study aimed to assess the suitability of the Danish Bilharziasis Laboratory (DBL) technique as a detection test for Fasciola spp. and Paramphistomum spp. infection in buffaloes. Sensitivity and specificity were compared to post-mortem recovery of parasites from specific organs. A total of 246 buffaloes were examined in this study, of which 125 (50.81%) were infected with Fasciola spp. and 109 (44.31%) with Paramphistomum spp. by post-mortem detection. In contrast, 107 (43.50%) were positive for Fasciola spp. and 92 (37.40%) for Paramphistomum spp. by the DBL method. Sensitivity of DBL was high in detecting Fasciola spp. (85.6%) and Paramphistomum spp. (84.4%). The specificity was 100% for both parasites. Kappa coefficients (к) indicated an almost perfect agreement of the two tests in detecting Fasciola spp. (0.8539) and Paramphistomum spp. (0.8577). Based on these findings, DBL is a suitable technique for the detection of trematodes in buffaloes.","PeriodicalId":379508,"journal":{"name":"CLSU International Journal of Science & Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121259223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Interviews and surveys were conducted in order to determine their actions before, during, and after the typhoon. The qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis, while the quantitative data underwent statistical analysis of frequency, percentage, and multiple responses. Based on the findings, the municipal government and the three barangay governments were prepared and conducted the proper emergency responses in the case of Typhoon Karen. All the three barangays have their own information drive as its information system and systematic strategies of preparedness during and after the typhoon. This shows how important the role of the state is for any given community. In the disaster preparedness of the communities, results show that the communities have a high degree of self-awareness in terms of the ongoing situation. During disasters, survival mechanisms performed by the community were primarily to protect life, secure the minimal provision of food and other basic needs, and procure the safety of their residence and valuables. In the aftermath of the typhoon, most of the strategies done by the local people were less dependent on external assistance that hastened the process of going back to normal life after flooding had receded. The activities and programs of the LGUs in relation to the mitigation on the occurrence of floods tend to be insufficient to the needs of the majority. Protection of the people and ensuring their safety and survival have always been the role of every state.","PeriodicalId":379508,"journal":{"name":"CLSU International Journal of Science & Technology","volume":"283 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116094710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ability of pigeon pea to produce economic yields under moisturedeficient soils makes it as an ideal crop to integrate in the crop-livestock farming for production of high-quality fodder. Four pigeon pea forage-type variety of the International Crop Research Institute for the SemiArid Tropics (ICRISAT), namely: ICPL 87119, ICPL 13092, ICP 7035, and ICPL 20092, were planted to identify the best variety that is suitable under Central Luzon agro-climatic conditions. A total of 240 plants per variety were planted with 0.5 m x 0.75 m planting distance. The experiment plots were laidout using Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications at the Central Luzon State University. The varieties were evaluated by measuring the growth performance, herbage yield, dry matter yield, and disease tolerance. Results showed significant variations in the survival rate of the different varieties. All varieties exhibited less than 85% survival rate. Among the varieties, ICP 7035 produced the highest herbage yield per hectare of 8.9 tons which was 24.71%, 58.42%, and 68.53% higher compared to ICPL 87119, ICPL 20092, and ICPL 13092, respectively.  Likewise, ICP 7035 showed the highest performance in all agronomic parameters measured except leaf to stem ratio. High leaf to stem ratio of 3.18:1 was observed from ICPL 20092.  However, ICPL 20092 was severely infested by mites (98%), while the rest were found to be resistant to mite infestation.","PeriodicalId":379508,"journal":{"name":"CLSU International Journal of Science & Technology","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131285777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Findings showed that there was only a barely conspicuous link between the two sectors to be able to determine a verifiable carabao milk and pastillas chain. The link was perceptible only in a few fields of B2B BPM practices. To form a strong link between the two sectors, the coordinated Single Step Demand-Driven Carabao Milk-Pastillas Chain Model was proposed to ally the two sectors through the Five-Fields Synergy System Model of Linkage Management which was placed in-between the sectors on the assumption that the carabao milk market acts on a demand-driven supply chain principle. Taken in its generic form, the model can be applied to other base commodities of any two or more agri-food sectors as long as there is a coordinating body that will serve as the core.","PeriodicalId":379508,"journal":{"name":"CLSU International Journal of Science & Technology","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126360395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
