Each of these applications is made up of various tasks whose execution determine the overall performance of the application. Task scheduling problem on cloud is an NP-hard problem, and thus task scheduling constitute one of the crucial aspects of resources management system in cloud computing, which ensures the attainment of the general user Quality of Service (QoS) performance in terms of response time, total execution time(makespan), throughput among others. In addition, appropriate task scheduling is effective in reducing the operational cost of cloud service providers in terms of energy consumption and resource utilization. This paper focuses on task scheduling problem using a novel Chaotic Symbiotic Organisms Search (CSOS) algorithm to minimize makespan and cost. The main idea is to prevent the premature convergence of SOS at early stages of optimization process by implementing a chaotic map, which enlarges the search space and provides diversity. The performance of the proposed CSOS algorithm is evaluated by extensive simulation using CloudSim toolkit simulation framework and compared with SOS and PSO. Simulation results reveal significant improvement in performance by the proposed CSOS in reducing cost and makespan, in task scheduling.","PeriodicalId":377665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th ICT International Student Project Conference (ICT-ISPC)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124851994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many services are offered by IT vendors and supported by service level agreements and uptime assurance such as storage services, computations and hosting services covering multiple continents. One of the challenging issues is to have efficient task scheduling algorithm for cloud computing. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is among of the best scheduling algorithm in cloud computing. However, PSO has generated the first population, which is produced randomly. As randomness decreases the probability of the algorithm to converge to the best solution. This paper surveys the existing of modified PSO scheduling algorithms to solve randomly issue in cloud computing environment. The comparison shows that the modified algorithm successfully make some improvement compared with standard PSO.","PeriodicalId":377665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th ICT International Student Project Conference (ICT-ISPC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124134257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The team of Entomology and Pest Unit (EPU) from the State Health Office of Ministry of Health is the local division that is responsible to perform the dengue monitoring operational tasks. Nevertheless, the EPU team members are currently using the conventional and manual procedures in conducting the entomological surveillance activities. Therefore, there is a critical need to support the EPU team for the development of an automated entomological tool that should reduce the burden in manual interventions for data collection, analysis and reporting the results of entomological surveillance operations. The goal of this project is to develop multi-platforms application for Dengue-Entomological Surveillance (DES) system that will enhance and cost-effectively support the EPU team in their fieldwork especially during dengue surveillance missions. The DES system is expected to be integrated as an interactive mobile and hybrid web applications with three key features, namely: (i) automated real-time data collection for ovitrapping installation operations (ii) automated efficient ovitrapping data analysis, and (iii) automated effective report generation for overall dengue surveillance and control tasks. It is hoped that the developed DES system shall increase the efficiency of the EPU team in systematically performing the entomological surveillance operations, and contributes to the improvement of early detection and better mechanism to strategically prevent and control the dengue outbreaks.","PeriodicalId":377665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th ICT International Student Project Conference (ICT-ISPC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127444255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They expect that black-box optimization algorithm can solve RL problems. Among the black-box optimization algorithms, extremum seeking (ES) is a notable one. Two past studies implicitly solved RL problem using ES, but their problem settings were limited to linear deterministic system. In this study, we propose the novel algorithm to solve a more general RL problem using ES. Specifically, we employ a new objective function and online optimization technique to solve a problem with stochastic non-linear state transition environment. As experiment, the proposed method solves two tasks. First, it solves a robot arm task in order to compare with the previous method PoWER. Second, it solves the one-dimensional reaching task to know the effects of exploration manner. As a result, we found that our algorithm showed better performance in adaptability than PoWER, and clarified that the initial exploration noise strongly affects the direction of search.","PeriodicalId":377665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th ICT International Student Project Conference (ICT-ISPC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128935651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Classification of personality is important as it can serves as a framework in the job assignment task, particularly, in the high risk job including the Police Force. There are many attributes of individual traits but not all of them can be used to indicate individual personality. In this paper, two classification models were developed to predict individual personality for the Royal Malaysian police (RMP) based on Type A and Type B personality theory. Both classification models are based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN). But, the second model applied Principle Component Analysis or called as PCA-ANN model. The second classification model successfully reduces the number of personality features to six features compared to initial 10 features. Furthermore, PCA-ANN improves the classification accuracy to 98.6% compared to 94.4% classification accuracy found in the first ANN model.","PeriodicalId":377665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th ICT International Student Project Conference (ICT-ISPC)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130482045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
