Meanwhile, most of the current deployment schemes cannot be transferred directly into complex networks. Therefore, this paper presents a deployment scheme to address this question and achieve green, networked WSNs. First, a hierarchical structure is proposed to deploy WSNs generally. Then, based on this structure, an energy optimization problem is constructed to realize green WSNs. Next, the question is solved by an optimal path and minimal energy consumption algorithm (OPMECA). Extensive simulations demonstrate that our energy-efficiency deployment scheme is applicable to green WSN deployment through the network lifetime and energy consumption in comparison with other algorithms.","PeriodicalId":377081,"journal":{"name":"Smart Comput. In the past, many paradigms have been introduced, such as Always Best Connected (ABC) and Always Best Network Connection (ABNC), to meet user’s preferences. However, they fail to consider multimedia services consisting of video and data, besides voice, for both source and destination. This paper presents a new model called Always Best Multiple Network Connection (ABMNC) to support multimedia services. ABMNC is first formulated as a Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) problem with an embedded utility-based Multiple Knapsack Problem (MKP). In order to reduce computation complexity, the MADM hierarchy of ABMNC is decomposed into a number of iterated sub-MADM hierarchies, and a hybrid Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and a Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) scheme are used to solve them. A novel Heuristic Rate Allocation Algorithm (HRAA) is then presented to reduce the computation complexity of the assignment and rate allocation. Moreover, a comprehensive Heuristic Path Selection Algorithm (HPSA) is proposed to efficiently resolve the ABMNC hierarchy. Finally, computer simulation is performed to study ABMNC, and the results show that our approach, most of the time, chooses the optimal network connections.","PeriodicalId":377081,"journal":{"name":"Smart Comput. This paper presents a single-layered sequential approach for instructor activity recognition in the lecture room environment. A hidden Markov model (HMM) scheme is selected as a sequential approach for activity recognition. The proposed system incorporates the five major activities of the instructor in the lecture room, i.e. walking, writing, pointing towards the board, standing, and pointing towards presentations. Background/foreground modelling is carried out using a Gaussian mixture model (GMM) for instructor detection in the lecture room. Mesh features are selected to represent the instructor. After vector quantization, features are passed to the HMM for activity recognition. Time is tracked, and the occurrences of each activity are counted to elaborate on the activities the instructor performed during the lecture. The proposed scheme proved to be efficient owing to its high accuracy rate of over 90 percent in recognizing five different activities of an instructor as tested in a MATLAB simulation environment.","PeriodicalId":377081,"journal":{"name":"Smart Comput. As the complexity of designs rises and the technology scales down into the deep-submicron domain, the probability of errors in the NoC components increases. Fault tolerance is a vital aspect in designing NoC architectures for future MPSoCs. This paper proposes an adaptive fault-tolerant technique that is a hybrid end-to-end and hop-to-hop, offering benefits of both error control schemes, and introduces a fault-aware adaptive selective hop-to-hop error correction scheme. The proposed technique ensures improvement in reliability by reducing the latency of the network in low transient–noise conditions.","PeriodicalId":377081,"journal":{"name":"Smart Comput. Successful management of purchase and sale activities depends not only on selecting the right products or services but also on choosing the best method for buying and selling them. We propose a linear programming and pattern matching–based multilateral automated negotiation system. We compared some methods of automated negotiation. A multilateral negotiation system gives better results for participants than bilateral automated negotiation. The technique of pattern matching–based automated negotiation gives fast results and reduces the overhead from calculations. Automated negotiations are not an easy task without the interactions of human beings. Automated negotiation can be done in bilateral or multilateral environments. In this paper, we consider many-to-many negotiations where agents concurrently negotiate with many other agents. In this paper, we also propose a matrix method to manage the concurrent negotiations conducted by multiple buyer agents with multiple seller agents.","PeriodicalId":377081,"journal":{"name":"Smart Comput. It is so important for computer researchers that it was included on a list of top ten technologies in the world. Data centers include reservoirs where processing power can meet the needs of many users\" computing. The popularity and acceptance of cloud computing has increased the number of these centers in recent years. One of the challenging issues in cloud computing environments is high energy consumption in data centers, which has been ignored in the corporate competition to develop data centers. High energy consumption by data centers leads to increased costs, as well as CO2 emissions. Researchers are now struggling to find an effective approach to decrease energy consumption in data centers. In recent years, many attempts have been made to reduce the power consumption of data centers, and many approaches have been proposed to reduce power consumption, such as hardware and software approaches and approaches using virtualization technology. In fact, placement of a virtual machine (VM) means finding a suitable physical place for the VM. The placement goal can either maximize the usage of available resources or it can save power by being able to shut down some servers. In this paper, we present an approach based on a best-fit decreasing (BFD) algorithm, which uses learning automata to reach a compromise between decreasing energy consumption and violating service level agreements.","PeriodicalId":377081,"journal":{"name":"Smart Comput. Still, we cannot fully utilize a single human brain to solve a specific problem. Knowledge-based systems (KBSs) are computer programs specifically developed to perform problem solving like human experts. These systems effectively expand efficiency and flawlessly solve problems in various fields. The structure of a KBS can be divided into five standard components, which are described in detail. The component used for storage is called a knowledgebase, while an inference engine is a software module that processes the knowledge stored in the knowledgebase. Different tools, shells and programming languages can be used to develop and utilize KBSs. The most popular development languages are List Programming (Lisp), Prolog, Java Expert Systems Shell (JESS) and C Language Integrated Production System (CLIPS). This paper highlights various known issues in the phases of the development, deployment and maintenance of KBSs. Developers, as well as end users, may face various issues in the life cycle of these systems. The key personalities involved in the development and maintenance of KBSs are knowledge engineers and domain knowledge experts. Most issues are related to the experts’ availability, their behavior and long-term cooperation.","PeriodicalId":377081,"journal":{"name":"Smart Comput. A recommendation system can save time and effort for users and can guide them in the proper direction to make the right decision. Most students in developing and underdeveloped countries choose their field of study blindly, without considering their skillfulness. The selection of their subjects is often influenced their parents, friends or different socio-economic factors. This creates a huge problem for the students during their academic studies, and in many cases, they cannot do well in their chosen field. Considering this fact, in this paper, we provide a framework for identifying student excellence and for recommending the most suitable field of study for them. We perform different experiments to show the effectiveness of our system. From the experimental results, we found that our system can guide students in efficiently selecting their field of study.","PeriodicalId":377081,"journal":{"name":"Smart Comput. Many technologies have been developed to increase throughput and energy efficiency and simplify the deployment of optical transport networks. Internet Protocol traffic transmission precedes optical transport networks in requiring new approaches for network nodes. Although optical fiber has a tremendous capacity, switching nodes limit the performance of optical networks. An optical burst switched network concept has been introduced as a promising solution to overcome this problem. Optical burst switched technology effectively utilizes the advantages of both circuit switching and packet switching networks, and also eliminates their drawbacks. Two important issues in achieving the best performance in optical burst switched networks are scheduling bursts and signaling protocols. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive analysis of optical burst switched signaling protocols. We study three protocols for signaling in optical burst switched networks that are used for various traffic types. The Tell-and-Wait and Just Enough Time protocols are used in extreme cases of loss-sensitive and delay-sensitive traffic, respectively. The third signaling protocol, called Intermediate Note Initiation, is a promising solution with an ability to adjust parameters depending upon traffic requirements. We analyze the blocking probability of core nodes with respect to the number of buffers and wavelengths for each signaling protocol. The simulation results show that when the number of optical buffers are five or higher, blocking probability tends to be zero, regardless of the number of wavelengths. Therefore, this tends to decrease loss due to a burst, and improves the overall performance of optical burst switched networks. The burst outstripping problem in optical fiber has been solved by determining a proper buffering policy for each burst, after considering the burst priorities and time delays between consistent bursts.","PeriodicalId":377081,"journal":{"name":"Smart Comput. Except for all the images, no information should leak out from any of the share images. The original secret image is printed onto transparencies, and stacking these transparencies directly reveals the original image. The advantage lies in the fact that no computational cost is encountered, and only the human visual system is required to decode the secret image. The visual secret sharing scheme is to encrypt a secret image into a set of share images to increase the encryption capacity. However, the schemes available use a codebook, and used pixel expansion to encrypt secret images into share images. In general, pixel expansion of twice the original order is seen. It is neither practical nor the best solution when secret images are more in number. This paper proposes a novel visual secret sharing scheme that can share a binary secret image on two share images with no codebook requirement. The experimental result reveals that the proposed approach has high contrast and also has an excellent recovery quality of the secret image. The recovered secret image type is lossless.","PeriodicalId":377081,"journal":{"name":"Smart Comput.
