It is compatible with the frequency spectrum in analog FM radio and satisfies the requirements for smooth transition from analog to digital signal in FM broadcasting in China. This paper focuses on the signal characteristics and processing methods of radio-based passive radar. The signal characteristics and ambiguity function of a passive radar illumination source are analyzed. The adverse effects on the target detection of the side peaks owing to cyclic prefix, the Doppler ambiguity strips because of signal synchronization, and the range of side peaks resulting from the signal discontinuous spectrum are then studied. A new error self-calibration method is presented on the basis of active error calibration and online self-calibration theories. An algorithm combining Direction Of Arrival (DOA) estimation and array complex gain error calibration is developed using an auxiliary source without accurate spatial location information and numerical optimization calculation; the error calibration parameters can be used in the following spatial spectrum estimation. The transmitting and receiving modes and imaging processing methods for these signals are studied. Considering that the swath of the airborne SAL is very narrow, in order to reduce the AD sampling rate of the wideband signal, a “phase-dechirping” receiving mode is proposed for the phase-modulated signal based on the Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM) signal. We propose the method of combination realization of the channel equalization and DBF time delay filter function by using the adaptive sample matrix inversion algorithm. The broadband DBF function is realized on a new DBF module based on parallel fiber optic engines and Field Program Gate Array (FPGA).
