In practice it is implemented by a multi-layered metal-dielectric nanostructure that is cut normally to the layers. Our theoretical analysis shows that various conditions can be designed enabling distinct regimes of SWP. We concluded that hybridization of SWP polarization leads to tighter confinement near the interface as compared with conventional surface plasmon polaritons. By using the finite-element method (FEM), we demonstrate that the fields are enhanced on the walls of metallic films, and thus minimizing significantly its presence inside the metal. This leads to the reduction of dissipation in the lossy metamaterial and allow for the existence of long-range surface waves that propagate obliquely to the optical axis. Based on this concept, the experimentally determined losses in planarized waveguides coated by a quantum dot monolayer can be successfully simulated. These simulations rely on replacing the quantum dot layer by an effective medium with a dielectric function determined by dipolar coupling and use the dielectric constant of the quantum dot host medium as the only adjustable parameter. The one-photon absorption (OPA) characterizations have been also theoretically investigated by means of configuration interaction (CI) method. Our calculated results on the maximum OPA wavelengths and second-order hyperpolarizabilities are in good agreement with the observed values in the literature. According to the results of the TDHF calculations, the investigated molecules exhibit non-zero β values, and they might have microscopic second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) behaviour. We also give the computational results of the frequency-dependent second-order susceptibilities (χ(2)) for the examined compounds. The interest towards miniaturized gyroscopes for aerospace and defense industry has given rise to an increasing research effort aiming at the scaling of optical gyros through integrated optical technologies. In particular, the resonant optical gyro (ROG) has been identified as the ideal candidate for a new generation photonic angular velocity sensor. Two technological approaches are available to implement the ROGs, i.e., the hybrid integration of optoelectronic components manufactured on different substrates or the monolithic integration of all components on a single chip. However, the application is restricted, because the capacity of MMF transmission is limited by intermodal dispersion which is caused by the different propagation speeds of the fiber modes. The free space propagation of radio waves has a similar effect caused by multipath wave propagation. However, to overcome that effect a promising candidate is the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) method which has been rapidly and widely adopted in wireless, wire-line and broadcast systems for efficiently dealing with linear signal distortions encountered when transmitting over fading channels. Therefore, OFDM has recently gained significant attention in access networks. In this paper OFDM signals will be applied to investigate a Radio over MMF link. By using OFDM equalization the dispersion of the transmission system can be well estimated and mitigated, hence the distortion of the multimode dispersion can be compensated. The compensation method will be demonstrated for graded index (GI) and step index (SI) fibers as well.
