Given the crucial modernization of the power systems and the evolution of protective relaying developments, it is crucial to merge from traditionally fixed parameters to novel approaches which allow flexibility and possible time-domain protection. This paper presents a new methodology to implement an out-of-step protection algorithm through the geometrical understanding of a power system oscillation using Clarke's theory. The study is an extension of a virtual relay solution previously developed and improves the Swing Center Voltage solution in the alpha-beta domain with better selectivity and enhancing the classification unstable and stable oscillation. The result brings a functional virtual relay capable of detecting and reacting under stable and unstable power swing events through playback techniques. The contribution of this study relies on the application of the time-domain approach to improving the function ANSI 78 as an extension of ongoing research on virtualization of power system protection and realtime prototyping.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121058046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially in regard to the growing demand for electromobility, a monitoring and balancing system is necessary for every cell within a battery system. The presented paper outlines two different concepts for a direct active cell balancing circuit. For both concepts, an energy exchange between each cell in the system is possible. With an active balancing circuit with either inductive or capacitive balancing mode, the energy is temporarily stored and can be transferred between any two cells in the system. Due to the circuit topology, it is also possible to achieve a minimum sensor measurement setup. The individual cell voltages can be measured consecutively via the balancing circuit but simultaneously to the balancing process. An accurate estimation of the cell voltages can be made by a suitable adjustment and parameter determination. These active balancing concepts allow not only to reduce effort for monitoring, but also an energy-based or voltage-based balancing. The results indicate that the quality of measurement can be significantly improved by appropriate means. Therefore, separate cell observer can be substituted by the integrated balancing and monitoring system with adjustable accuracy.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127100076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distinct from existing studies, the proposed planning model is intended for a fully liberalized market environment and the potential strategic nature of EV users in their charging actions are explicitly considered. To formulate such problem, a bi-level programming framework with equilibrium constraints has been introduced. In this formulation, the optimal configuration plan of RCS and its operation/pricing schemes are determined simultaneously to maximize the total profits of RCS owner, while accounting for the interaction of EV users during the planning horizon; moreover, the potential uncertainties associated with RCS due to the volatility of market prices, renewable availability, and traffic flows are also considered in our planning problem, by using robust optimization approach. The bi-level robust optimization model is transformed into an equivalent single-level linear program, by replacing the lower-level problem with KKT conditions to solve. The simulation results from case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132858980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aiming at the problem optimal dispatch of distribution grid with multi-stakeholder participation, this paper first introduce the concept of virtual-microgrid (V-MG), and the multi-objective optimal dispatch model of independent stakeholder is established by constructing a joint optimal dispatch platform of ADN. Secondly, this paper introduces information entropy to improve the traditional NSGA-II algorithm and proposes a new NSGAEN algorithm. The NSGAEN algorithm can improve convergence speed and avoid falling into local optimum. Finally, a method for selecting the compromise solution in the Pareto optimal solution set by Nash equilibrium game is proposed, which can effectively solve the problem of excessive human preference factors in choosing the compromise solution. The effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm is verified by an example of 33-node distribution network.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134346840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The granules get charged by collisions and frictions with each-others and with the walls of the tribocharging device. In electrostatic separation applications, the granules of a mixture must be sufficiently charged to be attracted by electrodes of opposite polarity for their separation by type of material. The objective of the present paper is to study the endurance of a novel rotating-cylinder-type triboelectric charger for two types of granular materials (sizes between 2 mm and 5 mm), originating from waste electric and electronic equipment: Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) and Polystyrene (PS). The performance of the triboelectric charger was evaluated by measuring the charge per mass ratio of the granules collected at the outlet of the device. The outcome of the process depended on the rotation speed of the cylinder, as well as on the mass flow rate of product. The charge per mass recorded at the start of the process (typically 5 nC/g pour ABS and 2 nC/g pour PS) decreased in time, due to the saturation of the tribocharging cylinder.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133495963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) solely with the conventional grid may not solve different problems of the hybrid energy system. Frequency stability and inertia variation are the two major difficulties which can lead to under frequency load shedding and cascaded outages. To mitigate these issues different control aspects have to be considered like creating a virtual source that can extract the stored energy and compensate the required power during the first few seconds of the abnormal conditions. This paper describes an analysis of frequency regulation by using a Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) concept. The Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) has been used for providing the virtual/synthetic inertia in view of increased penetration of converter interfaced RESs. Various case studies have been simulated in a real-time digital simulation environment to analyze the frequency stability and inertial response of the power system during transient conditions.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"45 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133453935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These cluster ions are considered to be useful for cleaning hazardous materials such as hazardous pollutants and allergen. In this paper, for such type of ions generation devices, numerical simulation is carried out on the cluster ions formation. The behavior of streamer evolution and cluster formations are simulated well, and it is clarified that the clustering progresses toward H3O+(H2O)4 and $mathbf{O}_{2}^{-}(mathbf{H}_{2}mathbf{O})_{4}$ when the chemical species of $mathrm{H}_{3}mathrm{O}^{+}(mathrm{H}_{2}mathrm{O})_{n}$ and $mathrm{O}_{2}^{-}(mathrm{H}_{2}mathrm{O})_{n} (n=0-5)$ are considered. The insulating belt is continually charged by corona discharge produced by a thin wire electrode (diameter: 0.3 mm), placed at a distance of 40 mm above it. The accumulated charge on the belt leads to the enhancement of the electric field at the surface of the conveyor. Two material types of the conveyor belt, namely Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and Polyester (PET), were used and compared. A comparison with the same configuration without charging the belt has shown that the performance of the new separator is much better, in terms of recovery and purity rates.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114215899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several types of multilevel inverters that have been proposed in the literature; among them the active neutral point clamp (ANPC) multilevel inverters have been drawing significant attention specially for reducing unequal loss distribution. However, with the increase of number of levels, the ANPC requires more electronic switches and flying capacitors, by which the complexity and the cost increases. In this paper, a reduced number of switch and flying capacitor ANPC inverter is presented for the grid integration of the solar PV systems. Moreover, the proposed power converter effectively utilizes the dc bus voltage compared with the traditional ANPC converter. In the proposed inverter, a high frequency transformer is used to eliminate the voltage balancing problems faced by the traditional ANPC inverters. The proposed magnetic linked power converter provides the galvanic isolation, which is one of the most critical issues for traditional transformer-less grid connected PV systems. The proposed topology makes the control strategy simple and makes the power conversion system reliable for the photovoltaic power plants.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114371691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike conventional ESPs type air cleaner, charger is located at the rear of collection stage. Ions are emitted to ambient space by fan of air cleaner, and airborne particles are charged by nearby ions based on diffusion charging mechanism. Hence, fan flow rate and collection area was directly affected to clean air delivery rate (CADR). Ion spray ESP showed particle CADR of 0.3 $mumathrm{m}$ particle with 7.32 m3/min at the fan flow rate of 10.0 m3/min, and applied negative voltage of 5 kV to the ionizer and collection plate. In addition, generating ozone nearly zero in the closed chamber (30.4 m3), In addition, ozone concentration was about 0.58 ppb after 12 hours of continuous operation. Carbon brush fiber based charger without grounded plates is important key to achieve near non zero ozone emission. When ion spray ESP was operated at a particle CADR below 6 m3/min, it was satisfied the noise criteria. The particle CADR in actual environment increased 4.90 to 6.63 m3/min with elevating fan flow rate from 6.45 to 12.4 m3/min. In addition, it did not increase linearly but increased in logarithmic form and converging to a certain level as the fan flow rate increased because the structure of actual environment.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132357351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
