This tool provides an easy interface for learners who have little technical background to understand the design and implementation of Internet application protocols. Using this tool, learners can monitor, test and write interaction scenarios of an application level protocol. The tool incorporates the FESI Script (an interpreter language by Jean-Marc Luring) with which learners can design, implement, and test new network services. HLPM runs on any operating systems that run Java Virtual Machine. The learners can understand the mechanism of a high level protocol by monitoring, and testing the protocol messages. They can learn how to make the network services by describing a new protocol. In a word, HLPM offers learners an active study environment of high level protocol by operating an actual network. We propose a system for retrieving video data by means of mosaic images. Mosaicing is a technique of joining/merging frames of a shot into one blended image. The resulting mosaic image can convey three primitive features in videos, that is, background, (moving) objects, and camera work such as pan, tilt and zoom. Thanks to this capability, the user can retrieve video databases effectively by specifying queries encompassing the condition of these three types of video features.","PeriodicalId":376322,"journal":{"name":"First International Symposium on Cyber Worlds, 2002. By using this system, the search time to find the necessary information in the campus is reduced. A user can access the system using the cellular phone terminal and by clicking the links or by inserting a keyword in the form they can get easily the campus information. The system has four agents which deals with Web information required by users, Net News, the student's login state, campus navigation and the filtering of the received campus information for cellular phone terminal. Therefore the proposed system can provide different media informations to a cellular phone. By using the proposed system, the users are able to get the information anywhere and anytime. The system performance was evaluated using a questionnaire. From the questionnaire results, we found that the system was able to show the required information. In this paper we try to find an answer to this question and work out the conditions and requirements for successful installations. We will describe our \"test bed\", the Cybernarium Days 2002, the world's first public exhibition exclusively dedicated to Virtual and Augmented Reality, which attracted more than 10.000 visitors in 6 days. We also present the results of the user questioning, which took place during the exhibition, and the \"lessons learnt\". Furthermore we focus on software aspects, which enabled us to use low cost hardware and offered a way to build new exhibits in a short time. When we perform cell decomposition, we can specify the manufacturing procedures of a product as homotopy invariants based on the homotopy theory. Using the parts and the manufacturing procedures of a product, and cell attaching functions accumulated in the cellular design database while these procedures are applied. We show first that we can perform the real design of soft objects, the shapes of which are constantly changing. We then show that the cellular model also can uniformly specify varied sizes. Thus, the cellular model is far more powerful than existing geometric models. This is an application of the median filter to smoothen 3-D noisy shapes given by triangle meshes. An algorithm of the mesh median filter is realized by applying the median filter to face normals on triangle meshes and updating mesh vertex positions to make them fit to the filtered normals. As an advanced modification of the mesh median filter we further introduce a weighted mesh median filter. The weighted mesh median filter has a reinforced feature preservation effect. The weighted mesh median filter with positive weighting has the smoothing effect, and the one with negative weighting has the enhancing effect. The two kinds of mesh median filters are compared with two conventional mesh filtering methods: the Laplacian smoothing flow and the mean curvature flow. A simpler version of this problem is the weighted graph embedding in a cycle (WGEC) that embeds the weighted edges of a normal graph as the paths in a cycle. The WHEC and WGEC problems have applications in design automation, parallel computing and computer communication. In this paper we first show that both WHEC and WGEC problems are NP-Complete. Afterwards we formulate the WHEC problem as an integer linear programming (ILP). Therefore, an approximation solution can be obtained by using LP-relaxation and rounding heuristic. Our LP-approximation algorithm generates an embedding with congestion at most two times the optimal solution. Finally, to guarantee the efficiency, we develop a linear-time approximation algorithm that also provides a solution with the same worst case approximation bound as the LP-approximation.","PeriodicalId":376322,"journal":{"name":"First International Symposium on Cyber Worlds, 2002. In this paper, through a Web based video application which uses enhanced XML descriptions for data transfer, we present an approach to convert the enhanced XML into Object-Oriented XML by integrating them into an object-oriented database (OODB). To enhance the functionality of the XML objects, methods are incorporated, making the efficient XML processing and retrieval to be possible. For higher query performance, we apply upon the XML objects the structural join index hierarchy (SJIH) which is an object indexing technique particularly suited to multimedia databases. Recently researches in data redistribution algorithm have become very mature. The time required to generate data sets and processor sets is much lesser then before. That means packing/unpacking becomes a relatively heavy cost in the redistribution. In this paper we present methods to perform BLOCK-CYCLIC(s) to BLOCK-CYCLIC(t) redistribution using MPI user-defined types. In this approach, we can reduce the requirement of memory buffers and avoid unnecessary data-movement. The theoretical models are presented to determine the best method for redistribution. To evaluate the performance of the proposed methods, we have implemented our methods on an IBM SP2 parallel machine. The experimental results show that this approach can obviously improve the performance of redistribution in most cases.","PeriodicalId":376322,"journal":{"name":"First International Symposium on Cyber Worlds, 2002.
