The grid impedance is assumed as an uncertain parameter, belonging to a real interval. An H∞ controller designed only for a nominal grid impedance condition leads to an unstable closed-loop behavior, while an H∞ controller designed for the entire set of grid impedances, ensures the closed-loop stability, indicating the importance of providing robustness against parametric uncertainties in this application.","PeriodicalId":375493,"journal":{"name":"2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134079225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But high power, high frequency and high temperature applications require more than Si can deliver. With the advance of technology, Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) power devices have evolved from immature prototypes in laboratories to a viable alternative to Si-based power devices in high-efficiency and high-power density applications. SiC and GaN devices have several compelling advantages: high-breakdown voltage, high-operating electric field, high-operating temperature, high-switching frequency and low losses. This paper provides a general review on the properties of these materials comparing some performance between Si and SiC devices for typical power electronics applications. Based on studied information, line of progress and the current state of developing, SiC seems to be the most viable substitute in high power and high temperature applications in the mid-term of Si, due to the fact that the GaN is still used in a reduced number of applications.","PeriodicalId":375493,"journal":{"name":"2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132625819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many ways to improve the system stability, regarding voltage regulation. Some works in literature propose to use the multifunctional PV inverter to support reactive power to the grid. The main drawback of this solution is the increase of losses in the converter during this additional functionality. Therefore, this paper analyzes the power losses and temperature in the PV inverter semiconductors during reactive power injection. This analysis is made using four different IGBTs technologies and one SiC MOSFET. Simulations considering a 5kW three-phase PV inverter are performed with focus in the comparison between these five semiconductor devices.","PeriodicalId":375493,"journal":{"name":"2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114403148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All experimental tests were carried out upon similar environmental conditions, steady solar irradiation and temperature, with maximum power point loads employed to extract all available power. The control of the PV system is evaluated by means of comparing three MPPTs techniques: Perturb and Observe, Temperature, and Incremental Conductance. In addition, MPPTs tracking factor and power conversion efficiency are investigated for each converter embedded with the respective technique. Finally, the experimental results are compared with the single-diode model approach, which shows the prominence of Boost converter using Perturb and Observe method.","PeriodicalId":375493,"journal":{"name":"2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128242181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The control system was implemented based on the synchronous coordinate system “dq”, using the Park transform, since it is a symmetrical and balanced three-phase system. This methodology was adopted as a way of simplifying the project and reducing the number of controllers applied. In a first stage of the control project, it was possible to identify the DVR transfer function by estimating some characteristic parameters such as: damping factor (ζ), natural frequency (ωn) and gain (K). In a second step, the controllers were designed by the Internal Model Control (IMC) method, applying them in the complete simulation of the DVR. With this, tests were carried out in the simulation, inserting disturbances with amplitudes and varied durations, observing the dynamic behavior of the DVR. Finally, in the simulation results section, it was observed the compensation of the disturbances inserted in the network, protecting the critical load and validating the design and development of the DVR.","PeriodicalId":375493,"journal":{"name":"2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128088810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SEPIC converter with bridgeless configuration at the input has the benefit of having fewer semiconductors in conduction in a switching period when compared with the conventional topology. Thus, the overall efficiency is expected to increase. Moreover, the studied topology has high robustness, since to perform the AC-DC conversion with high power factor and high frequency galvanic isolation it uses only two transistors and two diodes. The theoretical analysis, the power stage design and numerical simulation results from a 300 W converter are presented. The converter was designed for a 127 V of input voltage, 200 V of output voltage and switching frequency of 50 kHz.","PeriodicalId":375493,"journal":{"name":"2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133196123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The topology consists of using a main DC power distribution system and subsystems with AC distribution. DC/AC converters are strategically distributed along the main DC network, forming AC subsystems, in order to serve a certain number of consumers with AC loads. Although there are loads that can be fed in DC, this is not a reality for household loads in several countries, which are basically AC powered. Thus, the interest of this work was to evaluate the possible advantages of this topology as compared to the conventional AC microgrids with low voltage distribution network. In this context, the main aspect studied was to increase the extension of the distribution network without the need to use electric transformers or conductors with larger cross sections. Intrinsically, the efficiency of the energy distribution was evaluated with respect to the energy losses, and the variation of the implantation and operation costs. An isolated microgrid with a purely AC distribution network was used as reference: the microgrid with solar-wind generation of Lençóis Island is located in northeastern Brazil.","PeriodicalId":375493,"journal":{"name":"2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130583100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main goal of this control strategy is to ensure load division among the batteries according to their individual capacities, besides of equalizing their loads and restoring the DC bus voltage level to acceptable values. Also, it ensures that the batteries can be charged and discharged efficiently, which avoid overloads and depth of discharge. The control also provides a safe and limited terminal voltage for the battery bank and a controlled state of charge. In order to establish the charge and discharge control and a current stabilization, a bidirectional DC-DC converter (Buck-Boost) is implemented. In addition, a droop control method is used to perform the load division, which inserts a virtual resistance — a gain controlled by the battery state of charge — into the output of each converter — there is no communication among them. Classical PI controllers are used to controlling the DC-DC converters through block diagrams and analog circuits.","PeriodicalId":375493,"journal":{"name":"2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127808384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
