We motivate the cost reduction and increased effectiveness of advertising that is displayed and managed using digital signage networks as opposed to traditional signage. We introduce a partially automated intermediary, namely the digital signage exchange that forms a virtual marketplace for the purchase and sale of display time on the digital signage network. We present a concise representation for a customer's order for display time on the digital signage network and an informal business transaction management model for the exchange. This model includes support for advance bulk purchase of blocks of display time. It can also make a counter-offer to the customer when an order cannot be completely fulfilled as requested.","PeriodicalId":375124,"journal":{"name":"EEE International Conference on E-Commerce, 2003. Previous work using genetic algorithms (GAs) for automated mechanism design by Cliff has shown that previously unexplored 'hybrid' variants of the traditional CDA can lead to preferable market dynamics. Cliff 's results were based on experiments conducted using a computational simulation of the CDA populated by electronic Zero Intelligence Plus (ZIP) traders and his work uses a GA to co-evolve the market mechanism with the ZIP agent parameters. We use a self-adaptive evolutionary strategy (ES) to explore the space of possible auction types in a CDA populated by Gode and Sunder's cognitively simple Zero Intelligence Constrained (ZI-C) traders. We show that non-standard CDAs are still preferred over traditional variants and our results provide the first demonstration that non-standard variants of the CDA can provide favorable dynamics for trading strategies other than ZIP.","PeriodicalId":375124,"journal":{"name":"EEE International Conference on E-Commerce, 2003. However, to manage business activities and the related resources is a very complex task because of the potentially large number of business rules and unpredictable changes of business situations. Policy-based approach is essential to make such challenging tasks practical and feasible. We present a policy framework for the BAM domain. We will cover the conceptual model, policy specification, policy architecture, and a case study for the framework and related components. Comparison with other similar works is also given at the end of the paper.","PeriodicalId":375124,"journal":{"name":"EEE International Conference on E-Commerce, 2003. This paper points out that it has the following problem: a malicious customer can damage the bank by purchasing in excess of the customer's credit which the bank has guaranteed by issuing the certificate. In general, there are two positions of the bank with regard to the certificate. Position 1: the bank takes full responsibility for the certificate and compensates all payments created by the customer's purchases; and Position 2: the bank doesn't redeem payments exceeding a limit set for the customer and shares the loss with the shop if trouble occurs. In the PayWord Scheme, the bank can reduce its risk by adopting Position 2 rather than Position 1. However, this paper points out that the bank can damage the shop in Position 2 by impersonating an imaginary customer and making the shop share the loss with the bank.","PeriodicalId":375124,"journal":{"name":"EEE International Conference on E-Commerce, 2003. Here, we propose protocols that are not only sensitive to disconnection but also to location. One of the proposed protocols is the variant of the distributed protocol proposed by Pedone (2000) for Internet users. This shows that a distributed protocol for static network can be restructured for distributed computation in a mobile computing environment. We have also proposed another protocol that uses a hierarchical location database of mobile hosts (Pitoura and Samaras, 2001).","PeriodicalId":375124,"journal":{"name":"EEE International Conference on E-Commerce, 2003. This can give rise to new business paradigms based on ad-hoc trading relations as companies, particularly small to medium scale, can cheaply and flexibly enter into fruitful contracts, e.g., through subcontracting from big companies by simply publishing their business processes and the services they offer. More business process support by the Web service infrastructure is however needed before such a paradigm change can materialize. A service for searching and matchmaking of business processes does not yet exist in the current infrastructure. We believe that such a service is needed and will enable companies and organizations to be able to establish ad-hoc business relations without relying on manually negotiated frame contracts like RosettaNet PIPs. This paper gives a formal semantics to business process matchmaking and an operational description for matchmaking.","PeriodicalId":375124,"journal":{"name":"EEE International Conference on E-Commerce, 2003. The separation creates an integration problem because these activities should be integral parts of most business transactions. In this paper, we have proposed an approach to categorizing, organizing, and executing negotiation results through business commitments. First, we classify negotiation attributes into 5 categories based on the 5 key elements of news reports. Second, we propose a category-based negotiation process that would allow negotiators to simultaneously bargain on negotiation attributes within an attribute category, and categories of negotiation attributes can be negotiated either sequentially or in parallel. Third, we have described the approach to convert these negotiation attributes into business commitments that are executable in a management platform.","PeriodicalId":375124,"journal":{"name":"EEE International Conference on E-Commerce, 2003. The micropayment scheme is safe, easy and quick and can be used in some e-commerce applications such as mobile commerce services or Web-based interactive video services that require the small amounts of money in transaction. In Rivest and Shamir (1997) proposed a micropayment system that use hash function to generate a sequence of paywords for making small amount of purchases. They use the low-cost hash operations to reduce the usage of high-cost public key operations to enhance efficiency. However, in Rivest and Shamir's scheme, only one single payword chain is generated and used. If users are able to spend distinct values of paywords on shopping, the system would be more efficient in computation and storage cost due to the different denominations of multi-payword chains. In this paper, two using modes of the multi-payword chains are proposed based on new partition problems for finding minimal multi-payword chains in the transaction process such that the hash operations can be reduced.","PeriodicalId":375124,"journal":{"name":"EEE International Conference on E-Commerce, 2003. Business Process Integration and Management is the key to building and managing an adaptive e-business solution infrastructure. As an enabling technology of business process integration, Web services provide a standardized means to allow heterogeneous applications to communicate with one another. The standard interface description language and communication mechanism of Web services is employed to build a modularized and adaptive e-business infrastructure that supports evolving business environments. In this talk, I will introduce a reference integration architecture and then illustrate how Web services is used for enabling business service discovery, business service invocation, solution templates, and business process composition. In order to make an e-business solution infrastructure more stable, robust and adaptive, I will discuss new and emerging autonomic computing techniques that efficiently manage the infrastructure at both IT level and business process level. I will conclude by presenting some challenging research topics that will enable our vision of e-business on demand.","PeriodicalId":375124,"journal":{"name":"EEE International Conference on E-Commerce, 2003.
