It can be achieved by model-based management of dynamic architectures. Describing dynamic architectures includes defining rules for reconfiguration management. Within this research context, several works have been conducted using formal specification to handle this complexity. Graph and graph rewriting-based approaches showed, through many studies, their appropriateness to tackle architectural adaptation problems. However, scalability of such approaches remains an open issue and has been rarely explored. In this paper, we investigate this issue. We introduce a graph-based general approach for handling of dynamic architectures and we illustrate it within a scenario of collaboration support in crisis management systems. We elaborate the formal models for dynamic architecture management. Using the French Grid GRID5000, we conducted an experimental study to assess the scalability of the elaborated models.","PeriodicalId":374882,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Auton. Several works have dealt with the design and implementation of autonomic systems. However, few approaches pay attention to the autonomic behaviour of data-entry forms or graphical interfaces in autonomic architecture. In this work, we will introduce a generic autonomic system that is based on context and data-entry devices and generates DTDs which describe the relevant context and data-entries. We propose a DTD compiler based on attributed context-free grammar which automatically generates web forms or editors to capture data with respect to the predefined DTD. This contribution introduces a high-level grammar that supports all possible DTD interpretation by other languages like VB or Ajax or Java.","PeriodicalId":374882,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Auton. Database reorganisation, which removes structural deterioration by relocating data in the secondary storage, is an administrator's headache; it is difficult to schedule reorganisation efficiently to keep acceptable performance because conventional database systems lack crucial monitoring facility of structural deterioration, with high resolution, high accuracy and low overhead. In order to make database reorganisation be easy for administrators and be autonomic in the future, the paper proposes an online database structure deterioration monitor, which can visualise structural deterioration distribution, with a novel structural deterioration model, a storage performance model and an incremental update technique. The experimental results with our prototype show that our scheme can monitor structural deterioration with an error of within 12% and with an overhead of 3% at most.","PeriodicalId":374882,"journal":{"name":"Int. We use the Discrete EVent Systems specification (DEVS) formalism implemented by prototypical objects. The main reason why we use prototype-based object orientation for simulation modelling is the fact that it offers the level of flexibility that we need for interactive evolutionary modelling and simulation, which is used for simulation-based development of systems without exact specifications. We introduce a reflective framework model that constructs, inspects and edits the models specified using DEVS. The meta-object protocol of this framework allows the models to be constructed from scratch and inspected and edited during run-time. Interactive evolutionary modelling and simulation is supported by a visual tool set which has been highly influenced by the user interface of Self, an object-oriented language based on prototypical objects.","PeriodicalId":374882,"journal":{"name":"Int. Most numerical methods are very accurate and fast. However, some complicated problems can occur, such as stiff problems and bad-conditional equations, which could be computationally intensive. This paper describes the Modern Taylor Series Method for solving the system of algebraic equations using differential equations. As such, they should be suitable for modelling agent and multi-agent systems, as these are inherently concurrent. Nevertheless, there are not many systems that allow the modelling of the whole multi-agent system in Petri nets. The use of Petri nets is usually limited to subproblems such as the verification of interaction protocols. This paper describes the main concepts of PNagent – a tool for modelling Believe-Desire-Intention (BDI) agents using the formalism of Object-Oriented Petri Nets (OOPN). PNagent allows for developing, testing and running software agents in a consistent graphical environment. The framework is suitable for prototyping and experiments with both multi-agent applications and the particular agent architecture itself. At the same time, thanks to the formal nature of its underlying paradigm, it provides the means to verify an agent's properties. Thanks to its consistent environment and the high-level nature of the used formalism, the framework is also suitable for incorporating the ideas of autonomic computing.","PeriodicalId":374882,"journal":{"name":"Int. Before such systems are realised in a real world, we should sufficiently test and verify their behaviour. The presented text describes a new approach to building artificial agents and MASs using the methodology of model-based design. In this methodology some models are used for testing the behaviour of particular elements as well as for testing the behaviour of the system as a whole – in both cases by simulation. Our aim is to develop a tool that would allow model-based design of systems with artificial agents. For this reason we have been building an application called Tool for Multi-Agent System Simulation (T-Mass) which is aimed at model-based development. As a part of the tool we also developed a language called Agent Low-Level Language (ALLL), by which agents' behaviour is controlled.","PeriodicalId":374882,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Auton.
