{"title":"THE CHANGE OF PROPERTIES OF BROWN FOREST SOILS IN 10 YEARS ON THE TRACK “SKOLE − PARASHKA” (NPP “SKOLIVSKI BESKYDY”, UKRAINIAN CARPATHIANS)","authors":"O. Lenevych, Z. Pankiv","doi":"10.30970/gpc.2021.1.3459","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30970/gpc.2021.1.3459","url":null,"abstract":"Carry out monitoring of the track “Skole−Parashka” by the main five criteria of degradation of the natural environment: 1) width track (І category: to 0,5 m, “Unchanged track”; II category: to 1 m, “Little−changed track”; III category: 2−3 m “Endangered track”; IV category: to 5 m “Devastated track”; V category: over 5 m, “Strongly devastated track”); 2) presence of additional/parallel paths; 3) soil density; 4) quantitative and qualitative changes in vegetation (meadow ecosystems), presence/absence of forest litter (forest ecosystems); 5) the growth of erosion processes and the microrelief of the trail. It was found that for 10 years of exploitation by tourist track “Skole − Parashka” the width of the trail increased by 0,3–1,2 m. Reveal changes in soil over physical, water-physical, physicо-chemical and biotic properties of brown forest soils. The bulk density of soil structure on trails during 2012−2014 increased by approximately 32 % compared to the control, and after 10 years it increased − to 38 %. To reveal within the roadside an increase in soil bulk density from 1,07 to 1,17 g•cm-³ for 2019−2021 years. An increase in the density of the solid phase was recorded. The results of which are characteristic of the Hp horizon of brown forest soils. On the track porosity total to appraise “unsatisfactory”. For 10 years of recreational use of the track, the water permeability on the trails has not changed and was 0,07 and 0,06 mm•min-¹ according to the periods of the study (2012-2014 and 2019-2021). Within the roadside water permeability in 2012−2014 decreased by 60−80%, then in 2019−2021 years water permeability decreased by more than 90%. The actual water permeability of the soil during the downpour rains causes the intensification of surface runoff on the trail. On the track reveal abatement C organic. On the roadside track when lay to plane surface C organic unchanged within a years (2012−2014 and 2019−2021) and even was outstanding within a control. The increase C organic on the roadside is a result of “penetration” of the crushed fractions of forest litter into the H horizon during trampling and is not the result of biochemical processes. The main attention is paid to the morphostructural and morphosculptural features. The morphostructures of the third and fourth orders are distinguished. Among the elements of morphosculpture the main attention is paid to denudation and denudation-accumulative surfaces (Kycherska, Skrydeyska, Boronyavska). The role of the new technological movements in the formation of these surfaces and river valleys was rated.\u0000The second stage of the upper baden is associated with the retreat of the sea basin and the division of the land into mountains. The main features of the modern relief were formed in the Pliocene Pleistocene stage - a river network with a complex of terraces, denudation and denudation-accumulative surfaces, quest forms in the marginal zone. \u0000Age of the Kicherska denudation surface is pannon-pont. According to the palynological analysis, the estimated age of the Skrydei denudation-accumulative surface is upper pliocene-lower pleistocene. The methodological unity of the concepts \"geological monuments\" and \"geomorphological monuments\", which characterize the original course of natural processes and their results and therefore have great scientific and cognitive value are considered. Emphasis is placed on the important participation of geomorphological processes in the formation of natural monuments, which show different geological monuments on the earth's surface and reflect not only the features of geological factors but also the diversity of relief processes, their dynamics, which determines the status of most monuments as \"geological and geomorphological\".\u0000Important for establishing the protection status of geological and geomorphological monuments are the developed criteria for assessing the aesthetics of the relief of Ukraine, its uniqueness, the presence of features \"architecture-composition\", combination with other elements of the landscape, stability or mobility, imagery – photogenicity, visual effect, emotional perception, attractiveness, etc. It is noted that the category of natural phenomena \"geological and geomorphological monuments\" is characterized by significant conservatism compared to other components of the natural environment. Such monuments are carriers of paleogeographic and ethnocultural content, which, in addition to scientific significance, gives them the status of interesting tourist attractions. This creates an opportunity for the development of nature-cognitive tourism, which can be both independent and successfully complements all other known types of tourism.\u0000Geological and geomorphological monuments influence the nature of recreational activities. {"title":"SMALL-AMPLITUDE DISCONTINUOUS DISTURBANCES IN PLEISTOCENE DEPOSITS OF THE VOLYN-PODILSKA UPLAND","authors":"Roman Hnatiuk","doi":"10.30970/gpc.2021.1.3457","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30970/gpc.2021.1.3457","url":null,"abstract":"The paper presents the results of the study of the small-amplitude discon¬tinuous disturbances of the possibly cryogenic (thermokarst) origin. The dislocations were found in the outcrops of Middle and Upper Pleistocene sediments of the Volyn-Podilska Upland, accumulated in periglacial or sub-periglacial conditions. The distur¬bances are represented mostly by the micro-normal faults and also by sheared fractures and are very similar to tectonic (seismogenic) discontinuities.\u0000The tectonotypic fractures in the near-surface deposits of the Pleistocene terraces of Western Bug and Styr (five sections within Volhynian Upland, four of them – in the valley of Bug), as well as in the cover of the Late Pleistocene sediments on the slope of the valley of Dniester (Galician Prydnisterya) are subjected to consideration, analysis and interpretation. In the last location the ruptures are represented mostly by the dis¬turbances identified as sheared fractures. In all others there are small-amplitude normal faults. One reverse fault, timed to an ice-wedge cast, was also revealed. Typical micro-normal faults of all sections are steep and have a number of other common features, which testifies to the same or almost identical mechanism of their formation. These features, in particular, are as follows: 1) insignificant (usually up to 2–2.5 m) length in cross-section and small (several centimeters) amplitude of displacement along the rupture plane; 2) gradual attenuation of the fractures up and down the section. All micro-normal faults are confined to sediments (thicknesses) that are partially or completely composed of sand.\u0000The formation of the micro-normal faults and other examined ruptures can be ex¬plained by the uneven compaction and the gravitational subsidence of the rocks, and in the section on the slope of the Dniester valley – also by their displacement down along the slope. It is probable that these processes occurred due to: 1) the degradation of the permafrost; 2) the dehydration of the sand deposits during a significant decrease in the groundwater levels; 3) the melting of the buried layers and lenses of snow, which were accumulated during the winter season in the thickness of sandy the niveo-aeolian deposits. Some terminological issues are considered, as well as a short history of geomorphometry, its main tasks and research methods. In particular, the methods of quantitative analysis of the structure of terrain surface are considered, namely –the detection of the spatial trends, of periodicity, and of the spatial autocorrelation. The capabilities of the method of autocovariogram building and analysis are shown for the purpose of the studies of terrain elements, forms and types, their automatic delineation and classification. The basics of ecologically grounded classification of morphometric variables are considered, as well as the principles of the delineation of complex morphometric variables (topographic ecological indices), which reflect the impact of terrain morphology on ecological processes and ecological factors distributions. The presented list of educational and research areas and description of their essential principles testifies not only to the existence of certain stages in the department history, but also to formation of trends in scientific preferences of the teaching and research staff. Over the course of the Department’s work many theoretical and practical aspects of Earth Sciences have been developed including general and theoretical geomorphology, geomorphological mapping and zoning, Quaternary sedimentology and palaeogeography, structural geomorphology and morphostructural analysis, engineering and anthropogenic geomorphology, palaeogeomorphology and ecology, scientific principles of remote and expeditionary relief research. Modern applied scientific and educational areas of the Department are geomorphology and nature tourism (geotourism), and soil science, land management and spatial planning. The development of scientific principles of nature tourism as a factor of sustainable development will not only spread the scientific worldview, understanding of the society laws and environmental ideas, but will also attract national and foreign investment, facilitate the development of territorial communities and tourism as a highly profitable sector of Ukraine's economy. Soil science, land management and spatial planning as areas of theoretical and applied geographical research are crucial to meet the current challenges of decentralization and land reform. It covers the development of multi-level spatial planning methodologies for sustainable spatial development, methods of scientific substantiation of urban projects, land management project planning, soil protection measures, engineering protection of the territory to create a favourable human habitat, preservation of landscape diversity and natural and cultural heritage. {"title":"THE NETWORK AND THE STRUCTURE OF COMPLEX, GEOLOGICAL AND HYDROLOGICAL MONUMENTS OF NON-LIVING NATURE OF LVIV OBLAST, UKRAINE","authors":"","doi":"10.30970/gpc.2019.2.3060","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30970/gpc.2019.2.3060","url":null,"abstract":"This article presents the current list and designed maps of monuments of non-living nature of Lviv region in Ukraine as well as some recommendations and suggestions for its improvement.\u0000The list of monuments of non-living nature is the most numerous category in the structure of the nature reserve fund of Ukraine in general and Lviv region in particular. There are 199 monuments of non-living nature in the Lviv region up to 2019: 2 objects of national importance and 197 of local importance. Depending on the object of protection, the monuments of non-living nature of Lviv region can be divided into botanical (122), hydrological (34), complex (20), geological (19) and forest (4).\u0000The majority of complex nature monuments cover specific forms of relief (individual hills, rocks, caves) with the complex nature conservation value and often historical and cultural importance. The large number of complex monuments of non-living nature is located in Skole and Zolochiv raions, a few in Brody and Yavoriv raions, and just a monument in each of Staryi Sambir, Turka, Drohobych, Kamianka-Buzka, Stryi and Mykolaiv raions.\u0000Geological monuments of non-living nature are organized for the preserve caves, rocks, geological outcrops, erosion deposits, and glacial formations. These natural monuments are distributed in ten administrative raions and in Lviv, generally related to the mountains in Lviv region, the Precarpathian plain and the Podolian upland.\u0000Hydrologic monuments of non-living nature include 29 springs and wells, 3 waterfalls, the peatland and the river outflow. The springs and wells of the mineral waters of the resorts of Morshyn (7), Truskavets (4), Schklo (6), Rozluch (4) and Velykyi Liubin (1) have a special reserved status. A majority of hydrological monuments are located in Stryi (7), Drohobych (6), Yavoriv (6) and Turka (5) raions. \u0000It is proposed to add the following geological monuments of non-living nature such as complex of rocks with caves in Mykolaiv raion, the butte of Chervona Gora in the Zhovkva raion and the complex of rocks in Skole raion to the list of monuments of non-living nature. {"title":"CONDITIONS OF KAME FORMATION NEAR VILLAGE OF MASHIV (VOLHYNIAN POLISSIA)","authors":"","doi":"10.30970/gpc.2019.2.3062","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30970/gpc.2019.2.3062","url":null,"abstract":"Kames located in the Volhynian Polissya remain the most widespread and the least studied type of relict glacial landform. The article is focused on the specific conditions of kames creation within the peripheral parts of the Volhynian Polissya glacial bed elevation and their significant role in the formation of fissure net in the zones of deadened ice compression inherited from the stages of their inactivity. These compression zones were predetermined by the general planned configuration of the glacial bed landform climaxes. The presented reservoir is located to the north of the village of Mashiv and belongs to a complex of similar glacial accumulations crowed at the culmination of pre-glacial relief and placed at a considerable distance from the marginal formations of the maximum stage of the Dnieper glaciation. The morphological and geological structure of the form is analyzed to explain the conditions of its formation. It is revealed that its structure is dominated by fine-grained sediments; textural and structural features of them allow distinguishing two lithofacial complexes. The basis of the form is loamy sandy and sandy lake-ice deposits covered by a complex of fine-medium-grained sandy fluvioglacial sediments. The morphology of the form, its correlation with the elements of buried pre-glacial relief and the textural peculiarities of the described section deposits, allow to state that the accumulation of the material occurred within a semi-flowing or stagnant during certain periods basin filled with sediments of a small convey water-glacial outcasts; they were accumulated by activity of low energy melt water flows within the peripheral part of the ice glade. The glade was formed on the fracture zone line of the inactive (dead) ice, laid above the glacial bed landform climaxes. The textural and structural features of the form give reason to identify it as kame. This is a large number of rocks of different ages (Silurian, Devonian, Jurassic, Cretaceous), which makes it possible to study the history and condition sof the territory. The location is mapped. Also on the map as places of interest are the places of manifestation of modern geomorphological processes. Fluvial, karst, gravity, erosion and other processes are most evidentin the park.\u0000The dynamics of karst processes haveled to the formation of numerous caves and cave formations, which are valuable from the scientific and recreational plan.\u0000A mong the hydrological and hydro-geological features are waterfalls, marshe sand ground water exits to the surface in the form of springs.\u0000Historical and cultural sites occurring with in and around the park are characterized and mapped. The seare objects of Paleolithic heritage (the oldestin Bukivna, Horodnytsia), Kievan Rus' period, ruins of ancient castles (Rakovetsky and Chekrnelitsky) and fotresses, lordlye states, ancient churches, of which there are more than thirty, existing and in active in the region. The most ancient are the village of Michalce), monuments of liberation competitions (hiding places) and places of great historical battles.\u0000It maps and describes the existing route sand objects of the tourist infrastructure of the Dnistrovskyi RLP. The park and surrounding areas haves ignificant natural and recreational potential. The presence of a large number of diverse natural sites make sit possible to create attractions for tourism development in the region. {"title":"GEOMORPHOLOGICAL LANDFORM ANALYSIS OF THE AREAS IN THE UKRAINIAN CARPATHIANS ATTRACTIVE FOR RECREATION (THE CASE OF THE CHORNA TYSA BASIN)","authors":"","doi":"10.30970/gps.2019.2.3061","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30970/gps.2019.2.3061","url":null,"abstract":"The promising area – attractive for recreation – is located within two large geomorphological regions, the Polonynsko-Chornohorsky Carpathians (Svydivets Massif) and the Vododilno-Verhovynsky Carpathians (Bratkivsky Ridge of the Pryvododilny Gorgany). The area includes the highest part of the Svydivets Massif, i.e., Urdu-Flavantuch Ridge (Mt Blyznytsia, 1881 m), Apshynets and Svydivets Ridge (Mt Kotel, 1770.8 m; Mt Dogiaska, 1761.7 m; Mt Troyaska, 1762.6 m), whose structure contains sediments of fine rhythmic flysch and coarse sandstones of chalk and Paleogene.\u0000The morphostructure of the Bratkivsky Ridge (Mt Velyka Bratkivska, 1788 m) was formed on the Paleocene and Eocene sediments dominated by massive sandstones, whose outcropping created large masses of rock fields.\u0000The typical morpho-sculptural elements are relict landform tiers, as well as forms of Pleistocene icing and extraglacial forms. The dominating forms of Pleistocene ice accumulation are cirques with steep rocky lateral and back walls, troughs (ice plains), rocky cirque ridges (karlіngs), rock bars (transverse rocky cliffs at the bottom of ice plains), glacier deposits (moraines), and lakes in cirque bottoms.\u0000Within the area between the spurs of the Turbatska valley in the west and the Menchul valley in the east, there is a large group of Apshynets and Vorozhesky cirques. Most researchers note that the system of these cirques is the most striking area of the relict alpine relief of the Svydivets Mountain Group – with steep rocky walls, cirque lakes (tarns), numerous exarative & accumulative forms, snowfields, and nival niches.\u0000The area shows a full spectrum of modern morphodynamic processes: sheet erosion (deluvial erosion), linear erosion, defluxion, slow solifluction, nival processes, mudflows, windthrows & wind falls, as well as gravitational processes, that is, rock slides, talus deposits, avalanches, and landslides.\u0000When any slope process starts, it is always connected with geological, geomorphological and climatic factors, as well as economic activity. In fact, exogenous morphological processes are mutually conditioned (\"chain reaction\"). When designing recreational complexes, the geo-ecological approach is most often used.
