The purpose was to investigate the employment opportunities in technical communications for entry, middle, and top level positions, and to classify them by industry, duties and responsibilities, skill and educational requirements, work experience, and compensation. The goals of this research were to indicate the skills necessary for advancement or career entry, identify standards for recruiters, and pinpoint possible trends in technical communications.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":374472,"journal":{"name":"IPCC '88 Conference Record 'On the Edge: A Pacific Rim Conference on Professional Technical Communication'.","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124930598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A model is introduced that can adapt these methods for the persuasive presentation assignment. It is concluded that, using this model, students begin to realize that they can develop the representation skills that are a major requirement in industry, business, and academia. Those who begin the semester with negative ideas about oral presentations find that with suggestions and encouragement from other team members, hints on coping with nervousness, and other useful techniques, they are better equipped to face the challenge of their first professional postgraduation talk.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":374472,"journal":{"name":"IPCC '88 Conference Record 'On the Edge: A Pacific Rim Conference on Professional Technical Communication'.","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115910740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such evaluations require a structured approach to information assessment and the integration of that assessment into a corporation's communication requirements. Issues discussed are the communication audit the personnel audit, the audience audit, the equipment audit, competitive analysis, standards development, supporting equipment, and quality control.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":374472,"journal":{"name":"IPCC '88 Conference Record 'On the Edge: A Pacific Rim Conference on Professional Technical Communication'.","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116451200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As presented in the Effective Technical Writing workshop at Battelle, Pacific Northwest Laboratories, the writing process includes four stages: (1) prewriting, (2) writing, (3) rewriting, and (4) publishing. Effective techniques for writing at each stage are presented, suited to the priorities of the stage. Use of the process produces a hierarchy of concerns, and the process is recursive.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":374472,"journal":{"name":"IPCC '88 Conference Record 'On the Edge: A Pacific Rim Conference on Professional Technical Communication'.","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126755867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research from electronic media is applied to online interfaces, with particular attention given to the visual dynamics of filmed material, visual complexity in online information, visual sequences and transitions, and the auditory dynamics of representational media. It is suggested that the most effective design principle seems to be that a moderate amount of visual and auditory change can make displays appealing to users and lets them know where they are in tasks. Designers, in an attempt to make displays interesting, may overwhelm users with too many dynamics. Media such as hypertext, which promise increased flexibility and integration of other electronic media, may require designers to be particularly careful about the capabilities of their users.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":374472,"journal":{"name":"IPCC '88 Conference Record 'On the Edge: A Pacific Rim Conference on Professional Technical Communication'.","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129602337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
