{"title":"THE PRACTICE OF BUILDING AND DECORATING ANCIENT EGYPTIAN ROCK-CUT TOMBS: THE CASE OF THE TOMB OF NEFERSEFEKHPTAH (LG 79/GE 29) AT GIZA","authors":"Maksim A. Lebedev, Sergey V. However, the study of the context of this structure — the cluster of closely adjacent tombs — allows one to find analogies and put forward an assumption about the original intention of the builders. For instance, it seems that, due to a construction error at the initial stage of the construction of the tomb, the builders decided to abandon the idea of making shaft burials in favor of burial niches located on the western wall of the chapel. Based on the presence of construction marks in the shafts of adjacent tombs, the size and location of burial niches, as well as the iconographic features of the reliefs in the chapel, authors assume that the construction of the tomb of Nefersefekhptah took place during the late V dynasty. Paleography of hieroglyphic signs on the reliefs in LG 79/GE 29 suggests that they were made by different craftsmen and, possibly, at different times. The example of the tomb of Nefersefekhptah clearly demonstrates the problems that specialists face when studying the history of individual rock-cut complexes. The making of the rock tomb was a time-consuming project. It’s the implementation reflected social institutions, worldview, and practices of labor control, organization, and payment. The authors argue that the keys to reconstructing the history of specific tombs are stratigraphy (archaeological context), building marks and traces of building phases, paleography, iconography, and statistics on other similar complexes. This, in turn, raises a more global question concerning the tasks of publications of similar monuments.","PeriodicalId":373435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134178088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Last but not least, this success is associated with the formation of an effective synthesis of cross-cultural platforms of corporate culture and modern Western management systems in Chinese companies. The article examines the influence of traditional values on the management of modern Chinese enterprises. This influence is characterized as a ‘projection of the provisions of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism upon corporate culture. Projections coexist, intertwine and integrate with Western approaches to management. As a result, cross-cultural constructs are emerging that allow Chinese companies to combine both traditional Chinese and Western values, which opens the way to effective management and rapid cross-border expansion of activities. To substantiate this understanding of the modern Chinese management style, the article analyzes the activities of Alibaba Group. The analysis shows that in the latest official reports, the company declares values that are projections of the provisions of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. At the same time, the concept of the «strategy core» is also included in the values, referring to the internationally widely recognized Balanced Scorecard (BSC) strategic management system developed by American specialists R. Kaplan and D. Norton. This paved the way for the practical application of BSC in Alibaba Group, which turned out to be very successful. The experience of the Chinese e-commerce giant deserves to be studied in connection with the increased importance of Russian-Chinese business cooperation for Russia in modern conditions. The problem of coincidences and discrepancies of values of different cultures should be explored more systematically in order to activate the above-mentioned cooperation.","PeriodicalId":373435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114156736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This biobibliographic essay presents an analysis of his activities in 1957–1971, that is, after his appointment as head of the Sector of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The article shows information about the Department of Historical and Cultural Problems of the Soviet East, which included the Sector of Historical and Cultural Relations between the Soviet and Foreign East in Modern and Contemporary Times. Taking into account the profile of the new division, the scientific interests of N. A. Khalfin during this period shifted from the problems of colonialism again to the issues of Central Asia and Afghanistan, which he began to deal with in Tashkent. Since the 1970s, he has published a number of monographs and a large number of articles on various aspects of the history of this region, and continued to write reviews on Soviet and foreign publications. Khalfin made a significant contribution to the study of the biography of the outstanding Russian orientalist N. V. Khanykov. The Afghan theme, to which many works of N. A. Khalfin, including those of a popular nature, were devoted, becomes especially relevant after 1979. During this period, Khalfin, in addition to his scientific work, became known as the author of historical narratives or documentary fiction about the struggle of the Afghan people against the British. Many of his works are translated into English and the languages of Afghanistan. He also published works on the famous figure of «British colonialism» G. Curzon. In addition to his works, Khalfin carried out a lot of work on the publication of the works of the series «Central Asia in the Sources and Materials of the 19th and Early 20th Century», in which he acted as an editor, author of prefaces and notes, as well as the series «USSR and the countries of the East». Being one of the most important researchers of British policy in Central Asia and Afghanistan, Khalfin participated in international scientific joint meetings.","PeriodicalId":373435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS","volume":"520 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123133805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
