OBE has become the standard of practice in the engineering education programme. The measurement of student performance is done using both direct and indirect assessment tools. The value obtained out of these tools are then transformed to a score and checked whether they meet the required attainment level of Course Outcome set for a particular Course. The scores of all the Course Outcomes collectively contribute towards the attainment of Programme Outcome. This process is recursively applied for four years until the student completes the Programme. This paper presents a direct assessment method used in measuring the Programme Outcomes (POs) via appropriate direct assessment tools. A sample assessment presented in this paper shows a process of attainment of graduate attributes stated by NBA which are in line with the Programme Outcomes of Washington Accord.","PeriodicalId":373350,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on MOOC, Innovation and Technology in Education (MITE)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115323644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Correctly identifying the education data into particular category is still presenting challenge because of large and vast amount of features in the dataset. In regards to the existing classifying approaches, Naïve Bayes is potentially good at serving as a classification model due to its simplicity and accuracy. Naive Bayes is one of the most efficient and effective algorithms for data mining. The aim of this paper is to highlight the performance of employing Naïve Bayes in education data classification. The data extracted could be used to Find Meaningful Pattern for the students on the real time problem scenario application to be monitored at college level. Also the model can be used for the future planning of student selection criteria at college level.","PeriodicalId":373350,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on MOOC, Innovation and Technology in Education (MITE)","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121400131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To bring them in right path, mentors should be able to find such candidates in the class. Since these students are different in behavior, the teaching faculty should not teach the common approach of teaching for all students. These people would have abnormal behavior when compared with other students. These students are treated as peculiar students. The Students data is almost mixed type of data. In this paper how these peculiar students are found using data mining techniques is presented. In this paper the techniques related to categorical attribute data are used. The data is collected from B. Tech students from different colleges for experiments using ILS questionnaire [1]. The accreditation norms emphasize the need to: (i) develop the ability to apply knowledge of sciences and engineering to solve, design, develop, implement, test, analyze systems/sub-systems related to the engineering domain, (ii) develop the ability to perform in diverse teams through effective communication, and (iii) demonstrate professional behavior through concern for society, environment, safety and health. One the important attributes required to be developed is communication skills. In this work, we commence with the importance of communication skills, and suggest methods of including this competency in the curriculum. We conclude with some examples implemented in the program. The suggested methods can be included in any of the courses and when successfully implemented in most courses, leads to significant improvement in the ability to communicate by the graduating engineer.","PeriodicalId":373350,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on MOOC, Innovation and Technology in Education (MITE)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117350478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Computer based simulation software's are used to teach different aspects of power system by most of the Institutions. These simulation studies often do not demonstrate the physical sense of power system behavior to students. Moreover, making the students to visualize the effect of instability is a very big challenge faced by the teaching community. This paper describes the experimental set up built in the Electrical Engineering Department of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, consisting of an alternator connected to infinite bus through parallel transmission lines. In this experimental setup, the generator is brought to instability by changing the operating conditions. Further, the oscillation is controlled and brought back to stability by controlling the excitation and line reactance. This gives the clear idea about stability and its enhancement to the students.","PeriodicalId":373350,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on MOOC, Innovation and Technology in Education (MITE)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128246735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Learner interactions with Intelligent Tutoring Systems yield fine-grained data that are useful in generating meaningful information and illuminating understanding about learner behaviors and outcomes. We examine and analyze the log files generated by BioWorld, an Intelligent Tutoring System for the medical domain. More specifically, to further our understanding of the nature of reasoning employed by learners while solving virtual patient cases in BioWorld, one important step is to examine the initial list of selected diagnostic hypotheses before any other learner action is taken in diagnosing a case. By exploring the link between initial selected hypotheses and final submitted hypothesis, a better understanding of the learners' reasoning might be achieved.","PeriodicalId":373350,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on MOOC, Innovation and Technology in Education (MITE)","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127121984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
