To compare the effects of gait training with and without proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) on balance and gait in chronic stroke individuals. Methods. it was a double-blind randomized control trial conducted at University Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation clinic, Lahore, Pakistan from March 2020 to November 2020 using non-probability convenient sampling. Sixty patients in the chronic phase of a stroke, aged between 35 and 85 years, were randomly allocated into two groups. Group A received proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation-based gait training along with routine physical therapy, while group B received only gait training and routine physical therapy. Berg balance scale (BBS) and GAiTRite platinum were used as measuring equipment. The rules and regulations set by the ethical committee of the university of Lahore were followed. data was analysed by a statistical package for social sciences, version 24. Results. Balance improved more significantly in group A than in group B ( p < 0.05). Participants improved significantly in terms of stride length ( p < 0.001), step length ( p < 0.001), % swing phase ( p < 0.001), BBS ( p < 0.001), cadence ( p < 0.001) and velocity ( p < 0.001), and decreased significantly for ambulation time ( p < 0.001), and % stance phase of gait cycle ( p < 0.001), over the treatment period within both groups. The results of stride length, step length, ambulation time, cadence, velocity, % of swing and stance phase were insignificant for between-group comparisons. Conclusions. Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation-based gait training along with routine physical therapy is more effective in improving balance as compared to routine physical therapy alone. However, for improving gait parameters, proprioceptive neuro-muscular facilitation (PNF) proves to be as effective as routine physical therapy and gait training.","PeriodicalId":37315,"journal":{"name":"Physiotherapy Quarterly","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70524457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vitamin d deficiency, which is on the rise, can put any athlete at an increased susceptibility to various musculoskeletal injuries and prolonged recovery. it was intended to determine whether vitamin d supplements can help athletes to enhance their performance and body composition, and to determine which physical components of the athlete correlates with vitamin d inadequacy and vitamin d supplementation. Methods. Study eligibility criteria – randomized controlled trials (RCT) and quasi-experimental studies that examined the effect of vitamin d supplementation in athletes performed during 2015–2019. The participants were athletes aged 20–40, including both sexes. Study appraisal – Pedro score. Results. A total number of 43 studies were analysed, out of which 10 studies were selected for the final review (8 were double-blinded RCT and 2 were non-blinded RCT) reports. All the trials used 25-hydroxy vitamin d (25(oH)d) as the primary outcome measure to analyse the vitamin d levels. Studies were performed on subjects belonging to a variety of sports like football, rowing, winter sports, taekwondo, rugby and swimming. Except for one study, all the other studies reported that there was a significant improvement in the vitamin d levels after supplementation irrespective of the mode of administration. Higher doses of vitamin d3 had resulted in better improvement over a short period. Conclusions. This systematic review analysis concludes that vitamin d inadequacy, which results in many physical derangements and compromised performance levels of athletes, can be restored by supplementing with vitamin d.","PeriodicalId":37315,"journal":{"name":"Physiotherapy Quarterly","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70524630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although effective conservative treatment measures for urinary incontinence are available, they may not cater for all individuals who seek help. Sometimes, a sense of embarrassment or a fear of stigmatization causes patients' reluctance to report urinary incontinence symptoms to their health care provider and to join therapy. That forces therapists to search for a new approach. in this field, the use of mHealth technologies seems very promising. They have become even more valuable during the CoVid-19 pandemic, when the interest in telemedicine, as a means of providing care while not being exposed to the risk of virus infection, further increased. The purpose of this work was a narrative review showing possibilities of employing conservative measures to manage stress urinary incontinence in women, with a particular emphasis on the use of mHealth technologies, as recent studies have shown that mobile applications seem to be an effective tool in terms of improving stress urinary incontinence symptoms, satisfaction, and adherence to therapy.Copyright © Wroclaw University of Health and Sport Sciences.","PeriodicalId":37315,"journal":{"name":"Physiotherapy Quarterly","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70522628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
