Together with the growing interest in the development of human and computer interface and biometric identification, human face recognition has become an active research area. Face recognition appears to offer several advantages over other biometric methods. Nowadays Principal Component Analysis (PCA) has been widely adopted for the face recognition algorithm. Yet still, PCA has its limitations such as poor discriminatory power and large computational load. In this paper to improve the performance of PCA, it is applied on Daubechies wavelet subbands. Results are compared using City Block distance and Euclidean distance measures. The best recognition rate is obtained using PCA on subband A3 of db2 wavelet using City block distance measure.","PeriodicalId":372799,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Students' Conference on Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122802183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such applications, an accurate and fast detection of the phase angle, amplitude and frequency of the grid voltage is essential for reference current generation. Phase angle plays an important role in control being used to transform the feedback variables to a suitable reference frame in which the control structure is implemented. Hence grid synchronization has a significant role in the control of grid connected inverter system. However, accurate on-line tracking of phase angle of the grid voltages under distorted grid condition is critical especially; during line notching, voltage unbalance, voltage dips, frequency variations etc. This paper presents phase estimation technique for grid synchronization using CORDIC algorithm with Synchronous Reference Frame-Phase Locked Loop (SRF-PLL) during unbalanced three-phase grid voltage conditions. By proposing CORDIC algorithm with SRF PLL, we can largely reduce the computational time while it will be implemented in real time platform using FPGA or DSP. Computer simulations have been carried out using MATLAB-Simulink package for feasibility of the study.","PeriodicalId":372799,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Students' Conference on Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122899318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SVC behaves like shunt connected variable impedance which either generates or absorbs reactive power in parallel to the AC EAF. This generation and consumption of reactive power is balanced by thyristor controlled reactor by varying the firing angles of thyristors and control the current passing through the reactors. This review presents MATLAB simulation of thyristor controlled reactor with the SVC. This review also verifies firing angles of thyristor controlled reactor of the SVC so that reactive power drawn by AC EAF load at various power stages from the system is almost zero in line with actual field practice for nearly unity power factor operations.","PeriodicalId":372799,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Students' Conference on Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116850781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the power industrial companies have been moving in to a more competitive environment, OPF has been used as a tool to define the level of the inter utility power exchange. Basically, this research work provide a new approach to solve the single objective OPF problem considering critical objective function of reactive loss minimization for utility/industrial companies, while satisfying a set of system operating constraints, including constraints dedicated by the electrical network. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has been used for this purpose. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is a population based stochastic optimization technique. The system is initialized with a population of random feasible solutions and searches for optima by updating generations. Noble metal particles such as silver and gold are of great significance due to their size-dependent optical properties. Development of new nanomaterials with metal nanoparticles (Ag, Au, etc.) deposited on oxide surfaces, embedded within pores or encapsulated in its matrices have gained much attention. The prepared solution was deposited on high purity and polished glass substrate using spin coating in the fabrication process. The precise thickness control was achieved by using the layer-by-layer deposition technique. The films are deposited on microscopic glass slides with thicknesses ranging between 1000 and 4000 nm were prepared by a multi-layer process. Films which are characterized by UV Spectroscopy and AFM. Chemical composition of the particles was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).
