Šiame straipsnyje autorius daugiausia dėmesio skiria literatūros kūrinių, susijusių su magiškuoju realizmu ir prieinamų Latvijoje stagnacijos laikotarpiu, vertimams, jų įtakai latvių rašytojų kūrybai. Nagrinėjamas latvių rašytojo Zigmundo Skujinio atvejis, ypač jo romanas Gulta ar zelta kāju (Lova su auksine koja, 1984), vienas esminių ir populiariausių latvių romanų, parašytų XX a. 9-ame dešimtmetyje. Kai kurie kritikai pabrėžė romano kompozicijos ir magiškosios poetikos giminystę su Gabrielio Garcíos Márquezo romanu Cien años de soledad (Šimtas metų vienatvės, 1967). Romane, sukurtame prieš Latvijos nepriklausomybės lūžį, Skujinis formaliai pripažino sovietinį modernizmą, nors sekė ir tyrinėjo kelius, kurie vedė į išsilaisvinimą, modernizmo šaknų ieškodamas latvių tautos istorijoje, o ne sovietinių kolonizatorių atneštoje naujoje santvarkoje. Skaitomiausiu kūriniu tapęs romanas leido Skujiniui išsakyti esmines nesmurtinio pasipriešinimo kolonijiniame būvyje idėjas.","PeriodicalId":37193,"journal":{"name":"Colloquia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85355880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article aims to examine the evolution of Tomas Venclova’s reputation in the Russian-language periodical press in Lithuania over a decade. At the beginning of the period in question, texts, some of which were published in other languages outside Lithuania much earlier, shaped Venclova’s reputation. The author was characterized using properties assigned to him previously, that of a scholar, poet, and dissident. During the period of restoration and consolidation of Lithuania’s independence, Venclova acted as a public intellectual and critic of political, social, and cultural life. At the same time, his reputation as a poet, whose poetry was compared to the verses of Czesław Miłosz and Joseph Brodsky, received more and more validation. In terms of Pierre Bourdieu’s analytical apparatus, the peculiarity of Venclova’s case is that he was acting as an agent of three different fields: literary (poet, translator, and literary critic), scientific (literary scholar), and political (public figure and essayist).","PeriodicalId":37193,"journal":{"name":"Colloquia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79796231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rilke’s Concern for the Preservation of Objects and its Reflection in Lithuanian Poetry","authors":"Jūratė Jasaitytė","doi":"10.51554/coll.23.51.06","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.51554/coll.23.51.06","url":null,"abstract":"The article examines the connection between Rainer Maria Rilke’s concern for the preservation of objects and the poetic-aesthetic concept, which he applied to the phenomenon of dance. The article treats the dance, which receives relatively little attention as a separate art form in Rilke’s work, as a kind of (non-material) object. Overall, Rilke’s conception of the object goes beyond the “ordinary” and direct materiality. However, the desire to preserve objects in texts presupposes a special transformation, which can be identified as a distinctive phenomenological process. In Rilke’s poetry, dance appears in a variety of contexts and is often dependent on the image rather than the movement. Here, the poet applies Sehen Lernen, or “Learning to see” program. The article discusses Rilke’s poems that are related to the phenomenon of dance, including “Spanische Tänzerin” [“The Spanish Dancer”], “Toten-Tanz” [“Death-Dance”], an excerpt from “Die fünfte Elegie” [“The Fifth Elegy”] and Sonnet XVIII from Part II of Die Sonette an Orpheus [The Sonnets to Orpheus]. The article also explores the poetic reception of Rilke’s dance in Lithuanian poetry, the poems of Salomėja Nėris (“The Red Rose”), Henrikas Nagys (a fragment from “The Psalm of Fulfillment”) and Jonas Juškaitis (“Ballet”).","PeriodicalId":37193,"journal":{"name":"Colloquia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78523338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nearly all such literary pieces are on the tribes that lived in the southern part of Latvia: the Selonians, and especially the Semigallians, whose history is inseparable from Lithuanian history. Unlike the works of 19th-century Latvian authors, 20th-century works no longer depict ancient Lithuanians only in a romantic way, as heroic people that belonged to the same Baltic tribe, but as a powerful and hostile force that threatened the Latvian lands. The image of ancient Lithuania containing the most common historical characteristics prevails; however, it also contains a lot of authorial invention (e.g. the authors write about imaginary “Lithuanian princesses,” or they expand the boundaries of 13th-century Lithuania in an unrealistic way, etc.). The realities of ancient Lithuania, e.g. the historical names and events, are usually presented without any further explanation, which is a sign of an attitude and belief that the reader of the time had sufficient information on the subject.","PeriodicalId":37193,"journal":{"name":"Colloquia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85252056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been estimated that about 500 thousand people left Lithuania before WWI. Lithuanian elite of that time perceived emigration as a problem. The article examines the views on emigration and its dangers for the individual and the country, as expressed in the articles of two of the most prominent intellectuals of the late 19th century who had a decisive influence on the formation of the national and civic consciousness, Vincas Kudirka and Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas. It discusses the themes and problems of emigration highlighted by Kudirka and Vaižgantas, as well as similarities and differences in their attitudes towards emigration. Using the premise of cognitive linguistics that any type of discourse reflects the linguistic, social, ideological, and psychological attitudes of the author, the article shows that the language of Kudirka’s and Vaižgantas’s journalism is inseparable from their thinking and imagination, because language, as it exists in human consciousness, reveals the specificity of reasoning and the way of understanding the world. It concludes that the opposed worldviews of Kudirka and Vaižgantas determined the differences of the value-based attitude towards emigration manifested in their articles.","PeriodicalId":37193,"journal":{"name":"Colloquia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80407623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
