Sustainable work practices are laying emphasis on development of effective waste minimization measures for major construction projects. It is evident from the findings that losses incurred due to construction waste are enormous and proactive measures are needed to cut the cost of construction. Construction waste (CW) is the key factor which has a considerable impact on the environment due to massive landfills and pollution created by its disposal. Literature on construction waste provides best practices that help minimize construction waste. However, it lacks the holistic minimization approach. Therefore, studies approaching this problem comprehensively are needed. Research methodology was rigorous exploration from Research papers of past10 years through various journals to elicit the status related to CW Practices there in and recommend strategies to combat CW generation by addressing it with holistic approach. Research problem is derived from the literature review. Rigorous exploration is done from National, International Research and review papers from the past 10 years through various journals to elicit the status related to CW Practices and recommend best strategies to combat CW generation by addressing it with holistic approach.","PeriodicalId":371389,"journal":{"name":"5th International Conference of Contemporary Affairs in Architecture and Urbanism","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123180569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Re-functioning historical buildings that lost their function in the process and contributing to urban life has been practiced in Turkey as well as in the world in recent years. The historical Şerefiye Cistern, a Byzantine water structure on the Historic Peninsula in Istanbul, was restored and re-functionalized in 2017 and opened to use as a cultural building. The aim of this study is t o examine the Şerefiye Cistern in the context of reuse. The architecture of the Şerefiye Cistern, which could not maintain its original function, was compared before and after the restoration. After the restoration, a partial modern addition was made to the building. In the study, the socio-economic and cultural benefits of physical intervention in the cistern were questioned. After all; It has been seen that the reuse concept applied to the building both ensures its own sustainability and has positive effects on the historical environment in which it is located.","PeriodicalId":371389,"journal":{"name":"5th International Conference of Contemporary Affairs in Architecture and Urbanism","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130197647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aims to examine the role of substances and surfaces in the city's public space. The objective of this research is to create a city design guide for livable and interactive urban public spaces. The research was conducted using qualitative methods, the approach of Gibson (1979) about substance and surface, and the walking experience from Rapoport (1977); Jacobs (1993) was used in this study. Data collection was done by walking, direct observation, interviews, and visual documentation with photos, videos, and sketches. Analysis using descriptive narrative. This study reveals aspects of interaction, behavior, connection, and space use patterns in the city's public spaces as aspects that play a role in substance and surface. The presence of a substance on the vertical surface (facade) and horizontal surface (pedestrian way) can intervention with visitors to the store and make the pedestrian way function as a workspace. However, substances can also be a distraction in the human circulation space.","PeriodicalId":371389,"journal":{"name":"5th International Conference of Contemporary Affairs in Architecture and Urbanism","volume":"52 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120902927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Five and nine-storey buildings are considered to represent low-and medium- rise buildings. The building was assumed to be founded on shallow foundation with soil class corresponding to soft soil deposits, The soil of foundation was modeled by an equivalent massless spring coupled with a gap. The accelergrams used in this investigation in the nonlinear range are the horizontal and vertical components of the New Hall earthquake. Although most building codes postulate that SSI generally decreases the force demand of buildings, and increases the deformation demand, it was found that the inclusion of the vertical ground motion with SSI, the horizontal displacement are decreased compared to the case with only the horizontal component. the ability of the Winkler approach to provide reasonable prediction of the rocking response of various structures. This paper examines the effect of vertical ground motion on the nonlinear seismic behavior of reinforced concrete building with soil flexibly. A simple two-dimensional (2D) model was used to idealize the structures and the supporting soil. The nonlinear structural analysis program SAP2000 was chosen for this work.","PeriodicalId":371389,"journal":{"name":"5th International Conference of Contemporary Affairs in Architecture and Urbanism","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134637990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
