Stock indicators currently in use do not take into account the specific characteristics of power engineering and Russian power companies. The comparison of the energy facilities should be carried out, taking into account the technical state of the generating capacity. The scientific article proposes the inclusion of the specific energy indicators in the consolidated group of the energy companies’ investment attractiveness factors. As a result, the formation and rational use of human capital and the high efficiency of labor will be ensured. While discussing the role of freight forwarder in multimodal transport, the author presents an analysis of several key documents that are commonly used in trade logistics herewith revealing the impact of indeterminacy of freight forwarding responsibilities. The purpose of this article is to introduce the reader to freight forwarders’ documents and forms with a focus on the models of usage of FIATA Bill of Lading and FIATA Forwarders Certificate of Receipt. Customs logistics includes the processes, functions and challenges of transportation, warehousing, forwarding, inventory management, management of flows/resources and other areas of activity, insofar as they are related to the legal acts implemented by customs, customs supervision, interaction between customs and business in developing secure international trade. This is an area of research and practice which is rapidly developing, is open to innovations and new ideas, is introducing smart technologies and is consolidating intellectual capital and which is closely linked to economics, management, law and other areas of research activity. The distinctive feature of logistics, including customs logistics, is the management of flows and resources in the international supply chain, regulation of logistic operations, functions and processes at the international, regional and national levels, wide geography of activities, increasingly complex interactions between entities of logistic activity, optimal use of resources, creation of added value using instruments of logistic activity, rational and effective risk management, ensuring of safety and security. The outcome of activity in customs logistics (the length of delivery of a consignment, safety and security, speedy and inexpensive completion of formalities, prompt and efficient performance of logistic operations) is determined not only by the logistic operations performed, but also, and sometimes primarily, by the nature of interaction between entities of this activity and controlling institutions (customs authorities, border guard, etc.), possibilities of cooperation and its consequences, the compatibility of information, computer and communications technologies, the efficient use of available information resources, the validity, objectivity and rationality of decisions and discretions. Changes in the activity of customs as the state institution implementing customs and international trade policy directly and significantly influence the security of the EU’s economic area. {"title":"Entrepreneurs’ perception of outcomes from intellectual capital investments","authors":"Oksana Lentjushenkova, J. Titko","doi":"10.13165/IE-17-11-1-05","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.13165/IE-17-11-1-05","url":null,"abstract":"Purpose of the article The goal of the paper is to reflect the results of the authors’ conducted survey among Latvian business sector representatives that was aimed to get an insight into the level of awareness about intellectual capital investments. Methodology/methods To achieve the established goal the survey among representatives of Latvian 203 companies is conducted.  The most companies represent production, service and trade industries of the national economy. Survey instru-ments is the authors’ developed questionnaire that involves fourteen questions: six of them are respondent profile questions, and the remaining are aimed to determine the core of the concept of intellectual capital on the viewpoint of respondents, the importance of the intellectual capital perceived by respondents, the expected results from the intellectual capital investments. Respondents’ answers were evaluated within the respondents’ groups, based on the profile criteria, such as company’s age, size, financial performance, location and business sector. Data processing was completed in SPSS environment, using analysis of frequencies, ranking and independent samples T-test. Scientific aim The goal of the current research is to evaluate the perceived importance of the expected results from the intellectual capital investments by Latvian entrepreneurs, and reveal the difference in perceptions caused by the differences in companies’ profiles. Findings Research results show that most perceived outcomes form IC investments are financial outcomes. Significant differences in evaluations of representatives of different kind of respondents are observed. Depending on company size, age of activities and location of company (Riga and non-Riga) importance of expected outcomes is different. Large and old companies pay attention not only to financial outcomes, but also to non-financial outcomes. Analyzing perceptions of outcomes by location of company, authors find that there are differences only in two outcomes evaluations. Companies in Riga evaluates “reputation and brand value enhancement” higher, than companies in regions. But companies in regions evaluate “cost reduction in the future” higher than companies in Riga. Conclusions (limits, implications etc) In contemporary economics situation in Latvia, microcompanies and “new” companies have limited amount of resources for development. Usally their strategy based on activities, which provide company existance at the present moment.  Large and “old”companies have better financial conditions and built their strategies on sustainable development principles. This is evaluated using a non-parametric approach, in the form of a data envelopment analysis. The data was extracted from the BankScope database for the five-year period (2007-2011). The aim of this study is twofold firstly, it attempts to investigate sources of (in)efficiency in Asian Islamic banks during the recent financial crisis and the recovery period. Secondly, by using a Tobit regression analysis, it assesses the determinants of efficiency in the countries examined. An assessment of the efficiency levels of Islamic banks during the financial crisis and the recovery period, as well as within an international context, has policy ramifications for central banks in terms of enhancing the levels of efficiency and competitiveness of Islamic banks in the region.
