However, doing load flow calculations in case of presence of DG sources is difficult due to presence of such generators in distribution level of power system. This is happening since most load flow techniques available are developed to do such analysis in the transmission states. In addition, the design and implementation of reactive power compensator belonging to DG sources which are mostly only generating active power is another matter of issue to be solved. In this paper, distribution generation units are implemented in distribution section of a particular power system with given level of reactive compensation provided for each of the DG sources connected to a 26 buses distribution system and results are analyzed based on their effect on recovery of state of buses' voltages. They confirm positive and acceptable effects of DG sources installation beside their compensations on the voltage profile of the system under simulation studies and it is accessed that locationing of DG resources (which handle both active power directly and reactive power indirectly) have a great importance in level of accessible improvements in such systems.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127697888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work demonstrates that for these systems the optimum compensation does not implies in null neutral currents. It was also possible to conclude that the classical theory can be expanded for different compensation situations since the systems constraints are properly used. In this work, aiming to validate the proposal, some non-active power compensations were performed and evaluated through simulation results of a hypothetic system.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128050090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This snubber cell provides zero voltage transition (ZVT) turn on and zero voltage switching (ZVS) turn off for the main switch. The auxiliary switch is turned on with zero current switching (ZCS) and turned off with ZVS. The current stress of the auxiliary switch is reduced significantly. Also, the main diode and all of auxiliary diodes are operating with SS. No semiconductor device has any additional voltage and/or current stresses. Theoretical analysis is verified with a 100 kHz and 1 kW experimental prototype.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129506844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But, its implementation on Distribution Static Var Compensator (DSTATCOM) is hard because of nonlinear nature of DSTATCOM and severe variation of DC capacitor voltage. In this paper, a controller based on PI controller is designed to overcome such problems. Thus, Modulation Index and phase angle of inverter are used as input control variables to regulate DC capacitor voltage and track reference reactive power. Simulations are worked out in MATLAB/Simulink environment.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"89 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128004039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This solution intends to achieve fast changing and “soft” commutation between main and redundant branches through the combination of mechanical commutators and power devices. Also, important modifications in the power supply stage will allow to withstand severe short-circuit conditions. With those modifications, the energy processing capability can be maintained for most common failure modes. Several aspects of failure modes, detection and isolation processes within voltage-source inverters are also discussed regarding the requirements of safety related applications. Experimental results from a prototype are included to confirm the validity of the proposed solution.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123978660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basis of network connection of stacks is mostly complex due to the fact that output voltage of these types of sources is usually in minimum of 40 to a maximum of 80 Volts and hence connection of these sources to power networks and heavy high current loads without interference of different types of DC-DC Converters in DC part and PWM Inverters in the AC part of connection is impossible. The sequence of DC-DC-AC should be considered in advance for these systems to prevent faults and separation of these low-voltage sources from the higher voltage networks. So a study on various types of DC-DC converters and different techniques used to connect fuel-cell stacks to grid is done and considerations of separation for network connection of these low voltage DC sources of fuel-cell stack energy to provide adequate energy for both single and three phase loads is studied. Analyses are done to verify the results of connection methods in power electronic equipments.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"342 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115888554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The energy storage system consists of a flywheel coupled to permanent magnets synchronous machine. The stored energy is used for an unbalanced drop correction for the critical load using Three-Leg Four-Wire Converter. In motoring mode (no drop on the grid), the grid connected converter lets the system deliver power and boosts the DC link voltage until the flywheel reaches the maximum speed. In generating mode, the grid connected converter supplies sinusoidal voltage to the grid. The permanent magnets synchronous machine is selected for the design of a three-phase machine for the flywheel energy storage system and space vector modulation is used for controlling both converters.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115418984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The connected consumers (consumer topology) are expected to have a high influence on power quality (PQ) levels. Continuous phenomena like harmonics are closely linked to a one-day-cycle, which means a more or less periodic behavior of the continuous PQ parameters. Consumer topologies like office buildings or residential areas differ in their harmonic emitting behavior. Therefore, time series analysis is a suitable tool to derive factors which allow distinguishing between different consumer topologies. The paper starts with an explanation of relevant factors influencing power quality. It furthermore describes the extensive measurement campaign, set up in order to get the necessary power quality data for the identification of the correlations. Afterwards, the paper introduces a method based on the additive component model to distinguish between different consumer topologies. Finally, the suitability of the method is presented by several example applications.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131635504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The phenomenon of Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) has been taken into account almost at all faculties of electrical engineering in the Czech Republic. However there often are only partial mentions of EMC in frame of individual electrical engineering subjects and the education is focused on the one specific EMC area. At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the UWB we have paid attention to these questions in several special subjects in the bachelor and master studying programs. In this paper the education system of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has been presented. The main attention has been given to the low frequency interference of power electronic converters.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"417 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126703874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
