The database of the metering park of a distribution company, named Elektro Electricity and Services Co., was used for determining the most relevant variables and to feed the data in the software. The modeling developed to calculate the watt-hour meters probability of failure was implemented in a tool through a user friendly platform, written in Delphi language. Among the main features of this tool are: analysis of probability of failure by risk range; geographical localization of the meters in the metering park, and automatic sampling of induction type watt-hour meters, based on a risk classification expert system, in order to obtain information to aid the management of these meters. The main goals of the specialist tool are following and managing the measurement degradation, maintenance and replacement processes for induction watt-hour meters.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125917835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such fact is due to the significant increment of the electronic processors of electric energy that, in general, behave as nonlinear loads, generating harmonic distortions in the currents and voltages along the electric network. The effects of these nonlinear loads, even if they are concentrated in specific sections of the network, are present along the branch circuits, affecting the behavior of the entire electric network. For the evaluation of this phenomenon it is necessary the analysis of the harmonic currents flow and the understanding of the causes and effects of the consequent voltage harmonic distortions. The usual tools for calculation the harmonic flow consider one-line equivalent networks, balanced and symmetrical systems. Therefore, they are not tools appropriate for analysis of the operation and the influence/interaction of mitigation elements. In this context, this work proposes the development of a computational tool for the analysis of the three-phase harmonic propagation using Norton modified models and considering the real nature of unbalanced electric systems operation.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132738337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This fine time step could be implemented to study the effect of wind energy penetration on the power system stability (Dynamic and static from the point of views of voltage and frequency). Moreover, a simplified algorithm is proposed to estimate the wind speed array for each wind turbine in a wind farm depending only on the initial wind stream incoming to the wind farm and considering the wake effect due to the rotor and tower shadowing. These wind speed arrays are synchronized as the time delays due to the spacing between wind turbines and the wind different velocities are considered. These wind speeds are the basic input for the wind farm electrical power and kinetic energy (especially in case of frequency drops) aggregation procedures. MATLAB was used to simulate the proposed techniques and plotting all the graphs presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124382226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Stationary fuel cells may be used as an uninterruptible or back-up power supply, or to supply micro-grids. In particular, proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) are an attractive technology due to its high energy density, rigid and simple structure, low operating temperature and fast start-up characteristics. The power quality assessment of fuel cells as a viable power sources requires a good understanding of the fuel cell performance characteristics. This paper presents two novel data-driven methodologies for the identification of the main steady state (polarization curve) and the dynamic (impedance response) characteristics for fuel-cells allowing the development of rapid, accurate and empirical models based on the experimental data. M-NMF is a modified non-negative matrix factorization technique developed for the analysis of polarization curve data that allows to identify the three main contributions for the fuel-cell power degradation, while for impedance spectroscopy data, this paper proposes the use of fractional order transfer functions (FC-FOTC) to describe the main dynamic modes present in the fuel-cell. A brief description of these two approaches is presented, together with the analysis of a real experimental dataset obtained from a 12W open cathode PEMFC stack to illustrate their potential and scope. While the former is instrumental for the deconvolution of the fuel cell polarization curves into its major components, the latter enables the estimation of the parameters related to the inherent transport and kinetic phenomena, thus opening the way, in both cases, for the interpretation of the effect of the operating conditions on the relative dominance and magnitude of these components and phenomena.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125403586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A mathematical model of the power system is formulated as a mixed integer programming problem to make the optimal operation schedule for the system. The mathematical model includes electricity balance, heat balance and characteristics of system components. Annual CO2 emissions of 14 houses with the PV/FC/Battery power system were calculated assuming optimal system operations were conducted. The real-life electricity and heat demand data of 14 houses were used for these calculations. The calculations were carried out in “No battery”, “With battery” and “With battery and No backward flow” scenarios and the results compared. This research clarifies the CO2 emission performance of a PV/FC/Battery system as well as the reason behind the CO2 reduction and the change of CO2 emission performance when power backward flow is controlled.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127113539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This equipment has been considered attractive for controlling the increase of busbar voltage, which occurs in electrical power systems. Although smaller units have been built and successfully operated, this work focuses a real scale device. Within this context, the present paper describes the physical principles related to the equipment operation, a strategy to find the main reactor construction parameters to attend a given reactive power demand, details linked to the build-up and installation step and, finally, site tests and corresponding computational studies to validate the developed ATPDraw model with different operating voltage conditions. The final results highlight both the saturated reactor performance at distinct operating situations, as well as the computational model response for representing the equipment behavior.","PeriodicalId":369941,"journal":{"name":"11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129821962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
