This paper describes a modified controlled rectifier system which maintains the line power factor to almost unity independent of the magnitude of the dc voltage. Both conventional and modified schemes are analyzed and the expressions for power factor are derived. Also the above circuits are compared for slip energy recovery in one and two quadrant wound rotor slip energy recovery systems.","PeriodicalId":369766,"journal":{"name":"1977 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference","volume":"124 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1977-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124236417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ripple current reduction is easier to achieve in the output filter capacitor than in the input filter capacitor because a low-impedance interconnect is required to take advantage of the possible reduction in the input. Noise and reparability requirements may demand the use of a relatively high-impedance interconnect among the input capacitors. Reparability of a converter is improved if components that can cause each other to fail are contained in the same module. Reliability of a power switching module is improved if it contains a current limit based on an extension of the power transistor off-time. Testing is simplified if the number of interconnects between modules is minimized.","PeriodicalId":369766,"journal":{"name":"1977 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1977-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128661359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose an analysis method is developed. The system is first analyzed under open loop conditions and the analysis is verified on an 1 kVA experimental unit. Predicted and experimental results show that the open loop system requires a voltage regulation loop in order to meet typical UPS specifications. The closed loop system is analyzed with various load voltage sensing techniques and the \"optimum\" sensing technique is selected. This technique is employed in the voltage regulation loop of the 1 kVA experimental unit. Results obtained from this unit verify the closed loop analysis method. Finally design considerations concerning the voltage regulation loop are discussed.","PeriodicalId":369766,"journal":{"name":"1977 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1977-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127478575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Denzinger","doi":"10.1109/PESC.1977.7070823","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/PESC.1977.7070823","url":null,"abstract":"In spacecrafts, where a reasonable part of all electrical loads require individual DC voltage conditioning, the introduction of a central AC line in the power system in addition to its DC main bus is assumed to bring benefits in the overall voltage conditioning equipment. These benefits are less circuit effort and mass as well as higher flexibility and overall conversion efficiency. The above assumption could be especially valid in systems with high power capability feeding a large number of different payload equipments. Considerations on this subject have been made in several contracts of the EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY (ESA). Their aim was to define a basic AC system approach and to study the problems and interfaces of the different functions involved in the selected system. These functions are the DC/AC generation, the AC distribution and switching, the AC/DC voltage processing. For each function several breadboard developments were performed. The type of AC voltage selected for the system, is a 20 kHz square wave with a 100 V amplitude generated from a 50 V regulated DC bus. Description of two breadboard developments is given which contain all typical functions of the AC system approach and which are representative for the high power range. One development presented is a 2 KW modular DC/ AC square wave inverter, which was designed to guarantee full performance in case of any single component failure. The modular approach applies three paralleled bridge inverter modules to handle the full output power. A fourth identical module is used in standby to replace any of the three operated modules in a case of a failure. The clearing of a failure is performed automatically by a redundant three out of four logic within less than 0,1 ms. The second development presented is a 600 W AC/DC power processing unit providing typical outputs at voltages needed to power a TWT. It generates a 600 V regulated anode supply, a 2 A regulated heater current source and a regulated 5 kV/120 mA cathode/collector supply subdivided in five collector/ collector outputs of 1 kV each. The design results achieved in both units prove the applicability and flexibility of square wave AC distribution in the high power range.","PeriodicalId":369766,"journal":{"name":"1977 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1977-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114191645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An optimization criterion relating the recombination center location to its capture cross-section ratio for holes and electrons is derived. In the case of thyristors, the leakage current must also be considered in the optimization. This results in a criterion which relates the recombination center location to the resistivity and capture cross-section ratio. In addition, it is shown that the ideal recombination center must have large capture cross-sections for holes and electrons, a large capture cross-section ratio, and must lie at about EV + 0.70eV in order to fabricate devices with good VF - trr trade-off characteristics and low leakage currents over a broad range of resistivities and operating temperatures.","PeriodicalId":369766,"journal":{"name":"1977 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1977-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121279132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
