In this paper, a novel contact-free system is introduced to detect the human breathing activity. The system, which consists of two pyro-electric infrared (PIR) sensors, is capable of estimating the respiratory rate and detecting the sleep apnea. Sensors' signals corresponding to the thoracic movements of a human being are sampled using a microprocessor and analyzed on a general-purpose computer. Sampled signals are processed using empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and a new average magnitude difference function (AMDF) is used to detect the periodicity and the period of the processed signals. The resulting period, by using the fact that breathing is almost a periodic activity, is monitored as the respiratory rate. The new AMDF provides a way to fuse the data from the multiple sensors and generate a more reliable estimation of the respiratory rate.","PeriodicalId":369687,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Conference on Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ELECO)","volume":"278 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131593417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper focuses on the reachability path problems in Petri nets. Thereby, two algorithms are developed to create the set of minimal paths and the shortest path to lead the system from the given initial state to a desired state. Both of them are enlightened by dynamic programming approach; that is to say, they are backward techniques. Proposed algorithms do not deal with the reachability tree or graph of the net under analysis and use memory only for storing the obtained paths unlike the approaches based on the reachability tree. Moreover, the algorithms can be applied to general Petri nets without any restriction.","PeriodicalId":369687,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Conference on Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ELECO)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131403774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The automatic motor restarting is one of the strategies used in the industrial facilities, especially in Oil and Gas facilities, in order to achieve this goal. Aim of this strategy is to allow that after a voltage dip or disturbance, the medium voltage and low voltage motors will be automatically reenergized within predetermined time and in a certain order when voltage is restored. These abnormal voltage conditions may be caused by cleared short-circuits upstream, generation and public supply voltage outages or a simple automatic transfer system of a selective secondary substation operation. This paper presents the automatic motor restarting scheme applied at a large oil refinery where more than 600 motors are assigned to automatic restarting. Application criteria for motor restarting, power system simulations and physical implementation of this scheme are discussed in this paper.","PeriodicalId":369687,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Conference on Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ELECO)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114278458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By taking benefit of the MIMO system's spatial multiplexing property, the performance of the implemented pre-FFT beamforming approach is demonstrated in terms of bit error rate and error vector magnitude measurements.
