The research was carried out in the case study pattern, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The study group of the research consists of 27 math teachers. In the research, “Worksheet for the Use of Mathematical Language”, which includes four mathematical situations, was used as a data collection tool. In the analysis of the data collected within the scope of the research, the interpretation of the “Three Worlds of Mathematics” theoretical approach towards the use of mathematical language was adopted. As a result of the research, it was seen that mathematics teachers used mathematical language mostly in the context of the “conceptual-embodied world”, and least in the context of the “axiomatic-formal world”. At the same time, while the mathematical world in which the mathematical situation is presented affects the mathematical language used by the teachers for that situation, the teachers could not fully reflect the mathematical language to different worlds whilst working on mathematical situations. Finally, based on the conclusion that teachers use mathematical language in a more qualified way while performing high-level skills, it is suggested to include activities that allow the development of high-level skills in mathematics lessons and that serve to understand and develop mathematics","PeriodicalId":36886,"journal":{"name":"Participatory Educational Research","volume":"24 22","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135371618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the presence of the students' perspective in these schools has not been a preferred topic. The aim of this research is to listen to and make visible the opinions and feelings of the students enrolled in the grouped rural schools (CRA) in the province of Ourense (Spain). The methodology used is participatory in nature and is designed to achieve the collaboration, involvement, recognition, and acceptance of the participants. In the process developed, a first stage of awareness-raising and a second stage of negotiation and joint decision-making can be distinguished. At the same time, interpersonal and intrapersonal reflection are combined. Child-friendly data collection strategies are used: 6 multi-level assemblies (143 minutes of audio recordings), photovoice (303 textualised photographs) and drawing conversation (101 narrated drawings). Six schools participated, with a total of 101 school children enrolled in pre-school and primary education. The data analysis process was carried out with the ATLAS.ti 22 software. The results obtained show that the pupils' voice focuses mainly on five visions centered on the material, academic, contextual, emotional, and relational aspects. In addition, play stands out as a transversal axis that saturates all the categories. The conclusions show the importance of taking into account the voice of the pupils, as it allows the participation of all pupils with a diversity of competences, skills and expressive styles.","PeriodicalId":36886,"journal":{"name":"Participatory Educational Research","volume":"31 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135371605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The participants were 27 fifth-grade students from SD Negeri 2 Pilangsari in Cirebon Regency. The students are divided into four groups using purposive sampling and receive the same treatment. The treatment involved a proportion study that utilized STEM media, and the student’s learning trajectory was monitored based on their problem-solving patterns. Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) was used to develop the hypotheses. The HLT was used as a guide for the researchers' assumptions. The data were collected through observation by researchers, student work, and documentation. The results of the HLT were used to test the assumptions related to the student's thinking processes and their learning in completing proportion operations using STEM. Based on the results obtained during the practice, some findings exceeded the researcher's expectations and hypotheses, but some did not. These differences become a new finding expected to become a subject for further research, where several groups have different ways of thinking based on mathematical disposition. Through STEM media, the electrical engineering students' high enthusiasm and creativity can be known through the electric graph. In conclusion, proportional relationships are an important mathematical concept with practical applications in various fields. The use of STEM media for teaching materials can help students acquire a better understanding of mathematical concepts and skills.","PeriodicalId":36886,"journal":{"name":"Participatory Educational Research","volume":"25 20","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135371741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, the word ‘mentor’ is assumed to have roots in Greek mythology. The term \"mentoring\" refers to a caring, sharing, and supportive relationship in which one person invests time, knowledge, and effort into promoting the development of another person's skills, abilities, and knowledge. In this study, the role of mentoring in the formation of translator candidates' self-efficacy perception is examined. This study employs a qualitative research methodology to ascertain the translator candidates' opinions on the mentoring practice in the development of their perception of self-efficacy in their workplaces. In the findings, translator candidates state that practical training is important for them to gain self-efficacy in the field of profession. The results indicate that participants’ professional experience is insufficient, they see themselves inadequate in the fields of application and they need mentor help in terms of methods to be used, self-confidence and guidance. They emphasize the value of mentoring in terms of obtaining personal and professional experience and share favourable views on this practice. The results show that the translation candidates' self-efficacy perspective is poor, but the mentoring practice may be helpful in gaining professional experience and developing a self-efficacy perception.","PeriodicalId":36886,"journal":{"name":"Participatory Educational Research","volume":"15 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135371090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To create a conducive learning environment, it is indispensable to understand the nature of student participation in tertiary education. The current study was initiated to explore the level of students’ engagement in higher education and the influence of students’ socio-demographic factors and individual academic psychological capital resources including academic self-efficacy and resilience on students’ engagement. It also intended to examine the direct and mediating role of faculty support in prior relationships. A structured questionnaire was developed to collect data. 242 undergrad students sampled from a renowned private University in Dhaka city of Bangladesh. In conjunction with other statistical techniques, to investigate the direct correlation of academic self-efficacy, academic resilience, and teachers' support with students' engagement as well as the mediation impact, structural equation modelling was primarily used with SmartPLS software. According to the study, faculty support and educational psychological capital resources were favourably associated with students’ engagement. Furthermore, the study also revealed that the relationship between academic self-efficacy and resilience with the students' engagement was partially mediated by faculty support. The study offered a number of recommendations for emphasizing the psychological aspects of students' academic well-being as well as the assistance provided by teachers, both of which unquestionably stimulate students and improve their academic success.","PeriodicalId":36886,"journal":{"name":"Participatory Educational Research","volume":"25 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135371608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among them, the constructivist approach is widely preferred in many countries. The constructivist approach is commonly embraced for its role in helping educators nurture students who actively investigate, inquire, and exhibit curiosity about the world. In recent years, incidents such as pandemic and natural disasters seriously affect normal life and have led to educational environments becoming online. Thus, the need to adapt constructivist learning approaches to online environments emerged. In line with this need, an online education project was organized to enable pre-service science teachers to gain knowledge, experience and awareness about how constructivist learning approaches can be integrated into distance education environments. This research aimed to reveal the experiences of pre-service science teachers (PSST) regarding the online education project. The research adopted the phenomenology design. Data were collected from 19 PSSTs through semi-structured focus group interviews. The PSSTs’ experiences fell in the following six themes: the perceptions of the teaching profession, the use of constructivist approach in distance education, lesson planning competencies in distance education, technological/pedagogical competencies, (Limited) contribution to subject knowledge and professional and academic career goals. The research findings offer valuable insight regarding the advantages of education project focused on enhancing the lesson planning skills of pre-service science teachers in line with the constructivist approach within distance learning settings.
