NEW RECORDS OF LATE PLEISTOCENE (MIS 5) MAMMALS IN SOUTHERN ARGENTINIAN MESOPOTAMIA. New records of mammals from the Late Pleistocene of the province of Entre Ríos are presented in this contribution. The fossils come from the Salto Ander Egg Formation, a unit which is deposited in the fluvial valleys of the southwest of Entre Ríos and dated between 120 ka and 60 ka by OSL. It is interpreted that the formation sequences were accumulated during MIS 5. The paleontological content of the unit constitutes the record that best characterizes the beginning of the Late Pleistocene for South America and the MIS 5e-MIS 5c transition. In this work 12 taxa are described: cf. Ozotoceros bezoarticus (Cervidae), Morenelaphus cf. brachyceros (Cervidae), Hemiauchenia paradoxa (Camelidae),","PeriodicalId":36871,"journal":{"name":"Publicacion Electronica de la Asociacion Paleontologica Argentina","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70946628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

La Formación Campo Chico está compuesta por areniscas grises a blancas y conglomerados, intercalados con lutitas y algunos carbones. Los sedimentos de esta formación representan un ciclo continental marginal con influencia marina hacia el tope. El espesor total de la formación está cercano a los 450 m. La Formación Campo Chico fue datada en base a asociaciones de mioesporas como Givetiano medio–Frasniano medio. La fauna fósil constituye la primera evidencia devónica en Venezuela, de los tres grandes grupos de peces (antiárquidos, placodermos y dipnoos), con elementos endémicos de afinidad gondwánica. El conjunto paleofloral, dominado por licofitas, tanto en número de especies como en abundancia, es el más diverso reportado para el Devónico en Gondwana y es muy similar al encontrado en el estado de Nueva York, al este de Norteamérica (Euroamérica). Ubicando la localización geográfica de las ocurrencias florales de la Sierra de Perijá y Nueva York en las últimas reconstrucciones paleocontinentales del Devónico, las dos localidades están ubicadas en un cinturón de temperaturas cálidas entre Gondwana y Euroamérica. Una estrecha barrera marina se postula, separando ambas masas, para el tiempo de sedimentación de la Formación Campo Chico.","PeriodicalId":36871,"journal":{"name":"Publicacion Electronica de la Asociacion Paleontologica Argentina","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46577677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
