The analysis result is then applied to derive a Hinfin congestion control where the congestion problem is formulated as the Hinfin control of systems with time-variant input delays. Illustrative examples are provided to show excellent performance of the proposed algorithm in achieving an equilibrium in the buffer occupancy in the presence of time-variant delays. To the best of our knowledge, no such congestion control approach that directly accommodates the issue of the uncertain time-variant delays has been reported","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114324244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a distributed rate-based flow control internal to a CICQ switch is proposed. The new rate-based flow control allocates bandwidth to each virtual output queue (VOQ) using simple counters, and a minimal CP buffer requirement can be achieved without packet loss. The proposed rate-based flow control is shown to be more stable than the existing credit-based flow control previously proposed in the literature for realistic traffic while significantly reducing the CP memory size, thus making the implementation of a distributed CICQ switch practical","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130695284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The implementation proposed a comprehensive framework for DiffServ networks. In the model, the fair intelligent congestion control (FICC) algorithm is applied to provide fairness among traffic aggregates and control congestion inside the networks. Simulation results show that the FICC-DiffServ is robust and simple to implement. It provides excellent fairness and minimizes the packet delay and jitter under a wide range of variations of both internal and external network conditions. In addition, the paper investigates the dynamicity of the overall system by studying the impact of its target operating point on the overall system performance and suggesting a scheme to adjust the operating point adaptively","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132922420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reordering is, a phenomenon that is likely to become increasingly common on the Internet, and it can have an adverse impact on end-to-end performance and network resource utilization. Reorder density (RD) is a comprehensive metric for reordering. Several properties of RD are presented that provide insight into the nature of reordering present in a sequence. Based on measurements of packet reordering, certain basic patterns of reordering that are prevalent on the Internet are identified. By focusing on these basic patterns, a model is developed for reordering in networks involving two parallel paths, using a simple load-balancing scenario as an example. The model is verified using an emulation testbed","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133476660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current darknet designs require large, contiguous blocks of unused IP addresses - not always feasible for enterprise network operators. In this paper we introduce, define and evaluate the concept of a greynet - a region of IP address space that is sparsely populated with 'darknet' addresses interspersed with active (or 'lit') IP addresses. We use raw traffic traces collected within a university network to evaluate how sparseness affects a greynet 's effectiveness and hence show that enterprise operators can achieve useful levels of network scan detection, with only small numbers of 'dark' IP addresses making up their greynets","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115348151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the highly varying nature of wireless channels and the stringent requirements of real-time applications require enhancements of service delivery. To achieve high user-perceived quality adaptive applications and adaptation-supportive network entities play a key role. Recently, cross-layer adaptation is getting acceptance as a method that efficiently increases the performance of wireless communications. Although several cross-layer optimisation methods have been proposed over the past years, the research for end-to-end concepts was rather short-handed.
