Several different revocation approaches have been proposed in the literature. However, no performance evaluation and usability studies exist for mobile network environments like ad hoc networks. In this paper a comparison of two different certificate revocation schemes used in the context of ad hoc network scenarios is presented. First the state of the art in certificate revocation is presented and a motivation for its use in the context of ad hoc environments is given. A quick introduction in the theoretical background and overhead calculation of revocation approaches is presented. Further, our two revocation protocols are introduced and simulation results presented. The paper closes with an evaluation and a discussion of the results and gives an outlook on future work","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127526832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our contributions are three-fold: 1) a technique key composition is proposed to cope with the secure multicast problems, 2) the proposed framework is totally distributed, i.e., no centralized control is required for subgroup configurations, and 3) a comparison of similar frameworks is provided, in which we show the proposed framework is more efficient in that its time and space complexity are bounded by constants, regardless of the number of coexisting groups, the group size, and the degree of transit nodes","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115169987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We focus on quality-of-service (QoS) provisioning for each communication link in mobile environments. An interference model for wireless multihop packet radio networks, which is more practical than that adopted in earlier literature, is considered. Under this interference model, an approach to guaranteeing conflict-free transmission slots in each frame for each communication link is proposed. We then present a topology-independent link activation scheduling framework based on the theory of group divisible (GD) designs. The proposed framework guarantees conflict-free transmission slots in each frame for each communication link by mathematical properties of GD designs. With the proposed framework, we study and evaluate one series of GD design construction. We then propose topology-independent link activation scheduling algorithms based on the results derived. The proposed schemes are designed for different objectives: maximizing the minimum system throughput and minimizing the schedule frame length. Analysis results show that the proposed algorithms outperform previously known schemes","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123063385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many studies indicate that long-range dependence (LRD) exits in Internet packet delay, but the scaling behavior of packet delay is very complicated. This paper analyzes the Internet round-trip time (RTT) behavior based on small-interval (10 ms) measurements and finds that RTT series consist of two completely different components: spiky component and normal component. A bottleneck model is proposed to explain the phenomenon. By using detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) method, it is found that the original RTT series don't exhibit simplex scaling behavior, and although the spiky component accounts for a little proportion of the original RTT series, it has a great impact on the scaling behavior. After removing the spiky component, RTT series show LRD, with Hurst exponent ranging from 0.55 to 0.8. And we discuss the implications of our findings on delay-boundary prediction algorithms of TCP","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"179 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123394482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Packet traceback techniques have been proposed to find the source of one or more IP packets, but some attackers use multiple remote login sessions, or stepping stones, to increase obfuscation. IP packet traceback can only find the source of one of the several connections in the stepping stone connection chain. Stealthy tracing attackers research light trace (STARLlTE) is a customization and significant extension to BBN's source path isolation engine (SPlE.) The goal of STARLlTE was to construct a prototype to integrate single packet traceback with stepping stone detection. The resulting prototype traces a packet to an ingress router, and then discovers if the flow of that packet is related to a flow in another connection. A successful correlation can then be continued until an ultimate source is located","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"175 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126830339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Allocations made to deliver the multimedia applications can be varied depending on the conditions of the user, the network, or both. In a framework for resource management, the role of a bandwidth adaptation algorithm (BAA) is to provision the adaptation of the different users in A cell. Previous proposals for BAA persistently engage the adaptation whenever required. Naturally, this comes at a high system cost. In this work, the novel notion of stochastically triggered bandwidth adaptation algorithms (STBAA) is introduced. The objective of the STBAA framework is to allow system providers to exploit the tradeoff between admission ratios and user satisfaction in order to control the operational cost of adaptation","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128379866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By a Web application we mean an application that uses a web browser as a user interface and the content is in HTML or equivalent. In our application the client creates and stores an encryption key. The data is always encrypted when in transit through the transport media, and cannot be decrypted on the server without an explicit consent of the client. Even a malicious server software cannot be used to disclose the confidential data. Furthermore, the client will detect any attempt to tamper with the encrypted data. We show how to create a Web application that uses client side encryption and key generation. Our approach delivers confidentiality, integrity, and user trust. Furthermore it doesn't require any additional hardware or any software installations on the client side","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130320439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The metrics for measuring the quality of service (QoS) of the TCP flows, are TCP round trip time (RTT) and signal to noise ratio (SNR). Our findings indicate an inverse correlation between RTT and SNR, with the first value increasing exponentially after a lower SNR threshold. Device movement and large distances are two factors affecting RTT negatively. Finally we show that the impact of background traffic on these streaming applications is prominent, as it increases RTT significantly","PeriodicalId":368269,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks 30th Anniversary (LCN'05)l","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130415677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
