Domain requirements are core domain asset in software product line engineering, and requirement analysis for domain products or solutions based on domain requirements is a key step. Previous domain requirement models are suitable to model tens of variabilities in a domain which contains only a limited number of products. But in a solution domain such as SDP (service delivery platform) domain of telecom, there are thousands of variabilities among the solutions. In this paper, a new domain requirement model for solution domains is proposed. In this model, domain requirements are organized with three kinds of aggregation relationships and three kinds of generalization relationships. Based on these relationships, a configuration model is proposed to analyze the commonalities and variabilities among domain solutions. A solution requirement analysis method is also described based on the new domain requirement model. In realtime multimedia service provisioning in WLAN-based on home/office intranet, however, it is essential to have an efficient QoS-guaranteed session management scheme between QAP and STAs. In this paper, we propose an efficient home/office intranet resource management scheme using Q-SIP/SDP for realtime stream service provisioning on IEEE 802.11e-based WLAN. For the QoS-guaranteed session allocation for realtime stream services (i.e., IPTV and VoIP), the proposed intranet resource management system exchanges control messages with Q-SIP(QoS Session Initiation Protocol) proxy server that communicates with QSTAs (QoS Stations), and controls the QAP (QoS access point) of IEEE 802.11e WLAN. The proposed Q-SIP/SDP session management scheme is also considered for DLS (Direct-Link Setup) for making QoS-guaranteed session between STAs located in same BSS (basic service set). In an optical network with full wavelength conversion capability, every output on each node is provided with a wavelength converter, resulting in the lowest bound for blocking probability. However, full wavelength conversion capability requires a large number of wavelength converters, which is, and will remain, quite expensive in the foreseeable future. Therefore, it is expected that conversion capability will be limited and only sparsely deployed. In this work we apply to OBS networks the main architectures for wavelength conversion proposed for circuit switched networks. These architectures operate with limited wavelength conversion capability. We also investigate the cost benefit and the gain factor related to full complete wavelength conversion for each architecture. The ability to migrate virtual machines dynamically between physical servers in real-time has also added a dynamic aspect to consolidation. However, there is a lack of planning tools that can analyze historical data collected from an existing environment and compute the potential benefits of server consolidation especially in the dynamic setting. In this paper we describe such a consolidation recommendation tool, called ReCon. Recon takes static and dynamic costs of given servers, the costs of VM migration, the historical resource consumption data from the existing environment and provides an optimal dynamic plan of VM to physical server mapping over time. In this work we describe first a method for monitoring and modeling of performance degradation in SOA applications, particularly application servers. This method works for a large class of the aging processes caused by resource depletion (e.g. memory leaks). It can be deployed non-intrusively in a production environment, under arbitrary service request distributions. Based on this schema we investigate in the second part of the paper how machine learning (classification) algorithms can be used for proactive detection of performance degradation or sudden drops caused by aging. We leverage the predictive power of these algorithms with several techniques to make the measurement-based aging models more adaptive and more robust against transient failures. We evaluate several state-of-the-art classification methods for their accuracy and computational efficiency in this scenario. The studies are performed on a data set generated by a TPC-W benchmark instrumented with a memory leak injector. The results show that the probing method yields accurate aging models with low overhead and the machine learning approach gives statistically significant short-term predictions of degrading application performance. Routes may change many times in the same day and sometimes in the same hour or minute. Such changes are caused by several types of events, e.g., a routing policy variation in an ISP, a router reboot, or a link fault. In this paper we do a step towards the identification of the cause of route changes, a problem that is attracting increasing attention from both researchers and network administrators. Namely, we propose a methodology for analyzing a given BGP route change in order to, at least partially, locate the event that triggered the change. But using the infrastructure optimally requires intimate knowledge of the hardware and the interaction of its components in order to make optimal allocation of shared resources. This paper proposes an architecture where the hardware infrastructure not only makes operational parameters available (disk size, network bandwidth) but also presents to the service management components, relationships and constraints between the hardware components. We present an implementation which uses the Service Modeling Language, SML, to communicate this information and show how this architecture saves service management from knowing intimate knowledge of the hardware. Models and simulations appear as major tools aiming at better understanding the expenditures and to allow a more realistic network planning. However, their focus was, in the past, mostly limited to infrastructure investments. Because emerging services pose special requirements towards the networks, operators have not only to extend the capacity of their transport networks, but also need to optimize the architecture for differentiated services with advanced packet switching technologies, referred to as Next Generation Networks (NGN). During network evolution with disruptive technology changes, a general problem faced by network operators is the service migration of active services from an existing platform into a newly setup platform. This work investigates strategies for service migration at minimized overall operational costs. A novel service migration cost model based on queueing theory and hill climbing optimization is provided in order to tackle the employee allocation optimization problem. In this paper, a formal method is described for problem detection in large scale and distributed enterprise IT environment. Events from distributed system components are collected, filtered and correlated. Leveraging these correlated events, the behavior of a distributed system is presented as a problem detection state machine (PDSM). PDSM is built up automatically from system logs without any specification of the target system. This approach combines logs from multi-sources and does not require any human involved or experimental instructions. It is generally applicable to a large class of distributed systems.
