The sample included 47 DHH students, of both genders, 14 to 18 years of age. The Scale for examining interests and aspiration of students (Suzic, 2003) was used. The Scale consists of eight subscales with 20 statements/indicators of attitudes for activities: studying, sports, music, TV, entertainment, reading/ writing, love and dating, and social work. Ten statements refer to involvement in aforementioned activities and another ten refer to possibilities provided by those activities. Attitudes to reading/writing and studying were assessed and the correlation between those attitudes and the general school success was established. Data was processed by descriptive analysis, and Spearman's correlation coefcient was calculated. The result was a moderate correlation between DHH students' attitudes to reading/writing (ρ=0.61) and studying (ρ=0.55) and their general school success, and a moderately strong correlation between the perceived possibilities offered by these activities (reading/writing - ρ=0.46 and studying - ρ=0.36) and the general school success, at a significance level of p<0.05. According to survey results, it has been established that DHH students who understood the significance of reading, writing and studying better had more positive attitudes, were more involved in these activities, and thought they provided them with better possibilities. Furthermore, their motivation for studying was higher, as confirmed by their higher academic achievement.","PeriodicalId":36810,"journal":{"name":"Specijalna Edukacija i Rehabilitacija","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71076499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For many of them math is a subject they like the least. The goal of this research was to determine the relation between math anxiety and math achievement in students with mild intellectual disability. The sample consisted of 66 students with mild intellectual disability, 13-16 years of age (M=14.5; SD=1.03) of both genders (57.6% of boys and 42.4% of girls), with no neurological and multiple disabilities. We used the Woodcock-Johnson III Tests of Achievement for the evaluation of numerical, text, and problem tasks. We used Child Math Anxiety Questionnaire for the evaluation of math anxiety. The obtained results indicate that the students were most successful in solving numerical tasks (M=7.45), then text tasks (M=6.11), while the worst achievements were observed in solving problem tasks (M=2.48). Math anxiety in students with mild intellectual disability is increasing with age (t=5.197; p=0.01). Negative statistical correlation was obtained in testing the relationship between math anxiety and numerical (-0.289) tasks, textual (-0.351) and problem (-0.672) tasks.","PeriodicalId":36810,"journal":{"name":"Specijalna Edukacija i Rehabilitacija","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71076519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An altered sensory reactivity is observed in a large number of people with autism spectrum disorder. The aims of this study were to determine: a) the relationship between the severity of autistic disorder and sensory dysfunctions; b) the relationship between different sensory modalities; c) the relationship between age and functioning on sensory modalities; d) the modalities in which respondents have the most pronounced sensory dysfunctions. The sample included 60 participants with autism spectrum disorder, aged 11 to 26. The adolescent and adult sensory profile (The Adolescent / Adult Sensory Profile, Brown & Dunn, 2002) was used to measure sensory responses of the subjects. For the purposes of determining the severity of autistic disorder, a PDD-MRS scale was used (Pervasive Developmental Disorder Mental Retardation Scale, PDD-MRS, Kraijer & de Bildt, 2005). The results obtained show that in young people with autism spectrum disorder there is no statistically significant relationship between the severity of autistic disorder and the sensory dysfunction. Almost all sensory modalities were mutually correlated significantly. Significant correlations were missing between the participants` age and the altered sensory responses. The results show that subjects achieved significantly higher scores on the Activity Engagement subscale compared with all other subscales, which leads us to conclude that the participants from our sample had the most difficulty in adjusting their activity level to the demands of everyday situations. These findings have significant practical implications, both on the planning and realization of sensory interventions in these individuals, as well as on the need to harmonize the characteristics of the environment in which they reside, the tasks delegated to them, and their sensory specifcities.","PeriodicalId":36810,"journal":{"name":"Specijalna Edukacija i Rehabilitacija","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71076310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is a relative paucity of studies focusing on lexical-semantic abilities in class of verbs in children with SLI, and the results of previous studies are quite contradictory. The aim of this study was to determine the vocabulary scope of verbs, and also to compare types of errors in verb naming between children with SLI and typically developing children. The sample consisted of 60 participants with SLI (5-8 yrs) within the experimental group, while the control group consisted of 55 typically developing (TD) children. For the purpose of naming verbs assessment, 30 pictorial verbs from the Children's Word Frequency Dictionary were used, while errors were classified according to the principle used in Boston Naming Test. The results showed that children with SLI had a significantly lower score of accuracy in verb naming compared to TD children (p≤0.000). Also, children with SLI made significantly more semantic, unrelated and circumlocutive errors, as well as more omissions (p<0.05). However, an error distribution analysis indicates a similar pattern in both groups of children. We concluded that children with SLI had significantly narrower vocabulary scope of verbs compared to typically developing peers. Also, SLI children showed a significant delay in the development of lexical processing skills for this type of content words. However, children with SLI follow a similar pattern as TD children in the area of lexical-semantic development of verb using.","PeriodicalId":36810,"journal":{"name":"Specijalna Edukacija i Rehabilitacija","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71076452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Early studies indicate its higher incidence in people with autism spectrum disorder compared to those with ID and atypical development of a second nature. The research aims to determine the incidence and severity of self-injury, stereotypic behavior and aggression/destruction in children with autism spectrum disorder and children with ID, as well as possible differences between diagnostic groups; association of ages with forms of maladaptive behavior and the relationship between all three forms of maladaptive behavior within diagnostic groups. The Behavior Problems Inventory was applied to a sample of 22 subjects with autism spectrum disorder and 30 subjects with ID, 7 to 12 years of age. In both cases, these people had more severe forms of ID. The results indicate that stereotypic behavior had the highest frequency and severity in both diagnostic groups, followed by self-injury and aggression/destruction. Self-injuring and stereotypic behavior had a significantly higher frequency and severity in children with autism spectrum disorder. The frequency of self-injury significantly correlated with stereotypic behavior in children with ID, while in children with autism spectrum disorder there was a significant relationship between the frequency of self-injury and aggression/destruction. Significant correlation in both groups of subjects was also determined in relation to the severity of these forms of maladaptive behavior. The age significantly correlated with maladaptive behavior only in children with autism spectrum disorder, with both dimensions of self-injuries. It is necessary to develop adaptive abilities of children with autism spectrum disorder and ID in order to minimize the risks of maladaptive behavior, as well as for parents and experts to acquire knowledge about.","PeriodicalId":36810,"journal":{"name":"Specijalna Edukacija i Rehabilitacija","volume":"17 1","pages":"33-61"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71075291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
