The authors have been engaged in experiments as to the relation between the application of additives and the charging density. It was found that the peak values for C.M.C. and charging density coincided. I n add i t i on, before C. M. C. was reached, charging density increased in proportion to the quantity of additive used. Since the additives used were ionics, we may assume the electric charge was determined by the number of ions present in the Iiquid and number adsorbed at the Stern interface. The authors therefore investigated the number of ions adsorbed. The experimental results came extremely close to values predicted from theoretical calculations. Preliminary results of spectroscopic studies of the emitted light are presented. The energetic balance shows that vaporization is dominant for slow streamers but ionization could be a possible mechanism. One part of the previous work deals with the effects of the dielectric forces resulting from permittivity gradients which are themselves induced by the imposed temperature gradients. It is applied for the analysis of the dielectric data of chloral (CCl3-CHO) in solution in benzene at 9.8 GHz. The concentration dependence of the permittivity is fitted by the equation including linear and quadratic terms of the concentration. Many efforts have been taken to find out its dielectric strength under various conditions. Paschen's law has been found valid in helium gas down to very low temperatures, as far as the field strength does not exceed 15 to 20 kV/mm1. In liquid and supercritical helium the situation is more complex. Often a large statistical scattering up to nearly one order of magnitude has been found. Most work was concentrated to evaluate a minimum breakdown strength level which can be taken as a base for reliable insulation systems.
