Unlike the Arcadian landscapes of his contemporary Nicolas Poussin, these often do not evoke concrete myths, but inspire less obvious reminiscences in the viewer. Lorrain’s paintings can be conceived therefore as allegories of nostalgia, a category that the article approaches with the help of that of Nothing. It aims to show that it is through the particular light effects that Lorrain’s landscapes and marine paintings suggest a sense of timeless and nostalgic reminiscences to the viewer.","PeriodicalId":36776,"journal":{"name":"Svet Literatury","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45997899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main characters, young Africans fascinated by French culture, suffer from identity alienation and spiri-tual degradation which causes a process of decomposition followed by an artificial re-composition of their past. The homeland, Africa, as a point of reference, is lost in this process. The protagonist isolates himself from his milieu and it is no more possible to distinguish whether he ignores or re-fuses his past in homeland. In this article, we will analyze the involuntary reminiscences occurring when the main character is in Paris. Those fragments of memory force him to reconsider his status, origins and allegiance.","PeriodicalId":36776,"journal":{"name":"Svet Literatury","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43779992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The memoir-novel is indeed based on memories of a hero-narrator reminiscing about his past love life. As memory and imagination are strongly linked in the thought of the 17 th and 18 th century, the question of their relationship is particularly relevant in the novels by Antoine Prévost, insofar as his heroes claim to produce a pathetic effect and seduce their interlocutor/reader. Our reflection takes as an example La Jeunesse du Commandeur (1741) — a kind of “reverse story” to that of the Chevalier Des Grieux — where memory and imagination are put at the service of a burlesque treatment of passion.","PeriodicalId":36776,"journal":{"name":"Svet Literatury","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43197745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fascinated by history and literature, the Franco-Lebanese writer, tries, in several of his works, to combine history and romance and to make real and fictitious characters coexist in one universe. However, far from being limited to a simple transcription of history, Amin Maalouf has set himself the audacious goal of shedding light on the other side of history, as it was seen and lived on the “other side”; and at the same time he tries to revive the memory of certain figures forgotten or even denigrated by the official historiography. Thus, by rediscovering and reinterpreting history from a new perspective, Amin Maalouf aspires to understand the present and to build bridges between the two shores of the Mediterranean, between the North and the South, and between the East and the West.","PeriodicalId":36776,"journal":{"name":"Svet Literatury","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49099070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
