In practice, noise jamming may not always provide an effective ECM against the SAR because of the large power output required to obscure the SAR image. A potentially more potent threat is presented by deception or repeater jamming, which can exploit the SAR processing gain and prevent target identification and classification using relatively low power output. Such jammers are likely to be light, inexpensive and readily deployable. This paper presents an adaptive beamforming (ABF) for SAR technique which can provide robust and efficient suppression of both noise and deception jamming. The paper also includes results from experiments with SAR trials data containing jamming which demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique in a system offering using two spatial channels.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117073933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research on wall-penetrating radar has produced significant advances in recent years regarding this topic. However, wall parameter ambiguities, multiple reflections, clutter, and measurement noise pose significant challenges to developing robust detection and estimation methods. In the present work we demonstrate can be mitigated using dynamic logic (DL), an adaptive method for iterative maximum likelihood.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117240770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim is to define a robust adaptive sidelobe blanking (ASB) detector against combined impulse and CW interference. For the selection of the thresholds we define the detection margin as a direction dependent tool instead of the commonly used main and guard channel antenna patterns. This criterion gives insight into the critical scenarios for detection. One result we obtain is that an ASB based on the GLRT together with a low sidelobe preserving ABF algorithm like CAPS has superior performance.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115228532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This interpretation of resolution is related to the width of a single peak corresponding to a point scatterer, and is analogous to the Rayleigh criterion in optics. However, if one interprets resolution to mean the ability to resolve two closely spaced scatterers in a downconverted, pulse-compressed radar return, then resolution is a function of frequency as well as bandwidth. This paper shows that, for fixed bandwidth, the quality of peak separation in the processed return of two closely spaced scatterers is a nonlinear, nonmonotonic function of frequency and range separation. Simulation results, using full pulse-compression processing of uncompressed waveform returns, plot peak separation quality as a function of frequency. Analytical results show why this frequency-dependent behavior should be expected and how bandwidth figures in the nonlinearity as well. Frequency-dependent resolution of closely spaced scatterers has implication for applications that need high range resolution and also utilize frequency diversity for operation in a multi-radar environment.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"192 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115559531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A SAR measures precisely the time delay between the transmission and reception of a RADAR pulse. This paper presents a parametrization of the equations describing the movement of a vessel as it is imaged by a single channel airborne SAR. This parametrization explicitly accounts for the nonlinear vertical motion of the ship. When the vessel is moving with an across track component of velocity, we are able to characterize the pitch motion -with reference to the SAR data only. By capturing the pitch motion at different points on the vessel, we are able to demonstrate an increase in target focus that implies a more accurate estimation of velocities in the horizontal plane. This paper provides the theoretical background for the methodology and presents a case study of a large vessel travelling across track.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"13 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132339971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The emphasis on product quality, reliability, cost, and performance demanded by automotive OEMs has meant that an innovative approach to product development, packaging, and test has had to be introduced to mm-wave products. To avoid the shortcoming of the non-orthogonality of Taylor series expansion adopted by the traditional analysis method, a new analysis method is proposed based on the Legendre orthogonal polynomial expansion in this paper. Accordingly, the restriction on azimuth resolution is deduced via closed expressions based on SAR systematic parameters. Finally, by using the simulation results of airborne and spaceborne SAR, it is shown that the proposed analysis method is effective and applicable in SAR systematic optimization and design.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121564255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It influences most range bins, all Doppler bins and beams. Knowledge-aided ionospheric clutter mitigation using multiple coherent processing interval (CPI) data was described. The approach is based on estimation of the near vertical incidence clutter by past CPI data to provide improved knowledge of clutter statistics. Knowledge aided pre-whitening filter was used to cancel both near vertical incidence clutter and the range wrap clutter. Experimental results demonstrate that the algorithm is able to suppress the ionospheric clutter whilst preserving the desired characteristics of the target echoes.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"137 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123244703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optimum Volterra filters are derived for the problem of discriminating 2 classes. They have properties yielding some decision strategy that aims to reject (i.e. take no decision) data corresponding to unlearned classes. An original extension of this solution is then proposed for the problem of discriminating more than 2 classes. Performances of our method are evaluated by classifying real data of jet fighters range profiles. Influence of the filtering model order is investigated. Interest of the waveform polarization states is also analyzed. Results obtained show that our method outperforms the nearest neighbor classification method in term of error probability, while yielding equivalent performances in term of correct identification probability. Moreover, it is shown that good rejection probability of unlearned classes can be obtained, particularly with fully-polarized data.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128712193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
