The sample size of test data in ATR evaluation application has been reviewed firstly. We choose the Bayesian method to analyze the problem and select \"minimum length criterion\" to obtain the shortest confidence interval (CI) with the same estimation accuracy. The binomial probability density function is regarded as the likelihood function to calculate the posterior distribution about the metrics. Then CI accuracy requirement in ATR evaluation is discussed. Because the posterior distribution of the metrics depends on the test result, criteria to eliminate the uncertainty from the test result must be considered. The worst outcome (WOC) criterion is chosen to calculate sample sizes for various CI accuracy requirements and the corresponding sample sizes are listed in Table I. Table I shows that the sample size is very large when the CI accuracy requirement is high. Two approaches (specifications and prior information) to reduce the sample size are proposed and discussed. The absolute number of the sample size reduction is great when using the specifications in ATR evaluation applications. Table II contains those minimum sample sizes with various specifications, and its comparison with table I is shown. Whereas the sample size reduction is not large when using prior information because precise prior information about the metrics is always absent. The approximate sample size reductions can be got from table III and IV when considering beta distribution as the prior distribution.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"241 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128622647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Periodic signaling between a tracker (e.g., dynamic base station) and a target (e.g., transceiver) in these systems introduces a nature of cyclostationarity to the received signal at the receiver of the tracker. The cyclostationary nature of the received signal is analyzed theoretically and via simulations in terms of system parameters such as number of targets, average speed of targets, bandwidth, coverage range and HPBW (half power beam width) of the tracker antenna array. Exploiting the introduced cyclostationarity property, novel DOA estimation schemes are proposed to improve DOA estimation performance of the tracker. The performance measure is the DOA estimation mean square error (MSE). Simulations are conducted to study the performance in terms of signal to noise ratio and number of targets. The results confirm the superiority of the proposed approaches.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128638084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By combining both knowledge sources, we created a feature vector for each range which is essentially a map of the terrain radar cross section as function of azimuth angle. We present the loss in signal-to-interference plus noise ratio, due to the use of an estimated covariance matrix versus a known covariance matrix, for two scenarios: Los Angeles and KASSPER '02. On one hand, our results reveal that map-aided training does not offer a consistent improvement in performance over selecting secondary vectors based on range from the cell-under-test (CUT). On the other hand, the results also reveal that the use of map-aided training does not degrade performance. Thus, one can use map-aided training without the fear of degrading performance while maintaining the potential of improved capability in scenarios where similarity scoring reveals differences between the feature vectors of the CUT and the secondary data ranges.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124580030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additive function model equations are completely and simultaneously analytic over the entire operating range of all independent variables and provide rapid solutions for response to complex RF waveforms such as amplitude weighted linear FM CHIRP signals and beam side lobes formed by amplitude weighted array illumination. Degradation of ability to resolve close targets of different amplitude due to non-linear transmitter amplifier waveform compression is easily evaluated. Array beam side lobe degradation due to phase shifter errors and transmitter amplifier saturation is also easily evaluated. This paper is a brief tutorial showing the application of additive equations in modeling transmit and receive functions and how easily digital commands to phase shifter and gain control circuits can be incorporated in the models.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"293 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116246961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work considers an outdoor test range whereby the ISAR processing induces zero-Hz Doppler clutter (ZDC) effects which adversely impact image quality by either (1) masking actual target responses, or (2) inducing responses not directly attributable to target features. Techniques for removing adverse ZDC effects have been developed and are generally user dependant and/or target specific. This work aims to identify key ZDC reduction mechanisms and characterization metrics to be exploited for more generic applications. Two characterization techniques are considered: pixel-average percentage difference and image cross-correlation of pre-ZDC and post-ZDC processed data. The impact of data windowing is also investigated using various window widths and types.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"72 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113988167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Electronically scanned array antennas are often proposed for these applications. However, increasing the aperture area with conventional array technology is met with prohibitive cost, weight, and prime power increases because of the dense spacing of phase shifters and/or active T/R modules. This paper discusses the recent development of RF MEMS (microelectromechanical system) switch technology and the use of these switches in a Radant lens configuration for arrays of approximately 10m2 at X-band. A proof-of-concept 0.4m2 MEMS electronically steerable antenna (ESA) containing 25,000 MEMS switches has been successfully designed fabricated and tested. The 0.4m2 MEMS ESA was then integrated with an AN/APG-67 radar system to form the MEMS demonstration radar system. The MEMS Demonstration Radar system successfully detected both airborne and ground moving targets during a series of extensive radar demonstrations. This is believed to be the first large scale employment of MEMS switches in a scanning antenna and radar system. The low-cost, lightweight and low power technology demonstrated here can enable weight and power constrained platforms with electronic steering.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128066197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reducing the aperture results in a degradation of both sensitivity and azimuth information. Azimuth accuracy may be retained by the use of high-resolution methods (such as MUSIC) that have a significantly smaller beamwidth than standard beamforming. It is expected that the application of these high-resolution methods will help retain azimuth information with reduced aperture size. This paper evaluates the effects of reducing the physical aperture of the linear receive array used in HFSWR and using post-detection azimuth re-estimation by high-resolution methods to maintain azimuth resolution, accuracy, and hence tracking performance. This paper is limited to evaluating the effect of increased azimuth beamwidth and does not address the issue of reduced radar sensitivity. Data for the evaluation was obtained from an HFSWR system located at Cape Race, Newfoundland, Canada. The accuracy of the detection centroid for a full 16-element array is compared to the accuracy for a half-aperture 8-element array. It is shown that similar accuracy can be achieved from the shortened array employing the MUSIC-Enhanced CFAR compared to the full size array using the conventional CFAR processing.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"47 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125715482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the underlying reasons for the computational complexity of DBP is the inherent inefficiency of using a sufficiently deep memory and a high enough polynomial order to span the multidimensional signal space needed to mitigate PA-induced nonlinear distortion. Therefore we have developed a new mathematical method to efficiently search for and localize those regions in the multidimensional signal space that enable us to invert PA nonlinearities with a significant reduction in computational complexity. Using a wideband code division multiple access (CDMA) signal we demonstrate and compare the PA linearization performance and computational complexity of our algorithm to that of conventional DBP techniques using measured results.","PeriodicalId":367078,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Radar Conference","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125807307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
