Like in other places in Poland, dozens of new houses and residential gardens are being built in Orzysz. Gardens near old houses are being transformed. The aim of this article is to analyse the current structure of gardens in Orzysz and to forecast trends of changes. Material and methods. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 120 plots – 60 old gardens and 60 new ones. The respondents were asked about the main structures of their gardens, development, facilities, furniture and inspirations for the garden design. Results. The results showed significant differences between the gardens established before 2000 and those established after that year. Both groups had orchards, vegetable gardens and areas between buildings which resembled country yards. The old gardens were characterised by greater species and architectural diversity. They were more colourful. The new gardens were gradually becoming more similar to gardens in big cities. Conclusions. Despite the fact that gardens in Orzysz are becoming more and more modern, their structure differs from contemporary urban gardens shown in the media. They are a specific link between contemporary model urban gardens and rural ones.","PeriodicalId":366305,"journal":{"name":"Nauka Przyroda Technologie","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131215102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surface waters are components of the environment, which greatly enhance landscape attractiveness, so they are included in most landscape assessment methods. As a result of natural processes and long-term intensification of agriculture and land development many waterbodies have degraded and disappeared. Due to the increasing importance of protection of natural values in agricultural landscape it is advisable to revitalise it through the restoration or construction of small waterbodies. Material and methods. The study assesses the influence of the reconstruction of waterbodies and the introduction of trees on the visual qualities of agricultural landscape. The research was conducted in an area located near the village of Nienawiszcz, where a private investor built three waterbodies between 1999 and 2012 and thus enriched the landscape. In 2014 the landscape was visually assessed by means of the Wejchert impression curve adapted to the non-urbanised landscape. Results. The study showed that the landscape was varied and attractive. Additionally, the reconstruction of the waterbodies in Nienawiszcz diversified the agricultural landscape and resulted in its higher visual rating both in the summer and winter. Conclusions. The reconstruction of waterbodies and intensive landscape activities enriched the agricultural landscape and increased its attractiveness, especially for recreational and tourist purposes.","PeriodicalId":366305,"journal":{"name":"Nauka Przyroda Technologie","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116039452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The world literature provides information about the effect of biostimulants on the biological value of broccoli immediately after harvesting, but there is little information how the quality of broccoli heads changes during storage in plants treated with biostimulants during cultivation. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of an amino acid biostimulant and Ascophyllum nodosum filtrate on the content of phenolic compounds in broccoli heads – in fresh vegetables and in the ones stored for three days at room temperature. Material and methods. The study was carried out on one broccoli cultivar: ‘Tiburon’. There were plants treated with the amino acid biostimulant, plants treated with Ascophyllum nodosum filtrate + amino acids, as well as control plants which were not treated with biostimulants. After harvesting the heads were stored at room temperature (24°C, 65% RH) for 1, 2 and 3 days. The contents of total phenols, caffeic, ferulic and sinapic acids, as well as the contents of quercetin and kaempferol were measured in fresh broccoli heads and after each day of storage. Results. The biostimulants enhanced the total phenolic content and the amount of caffeic and ferulic acids in fresh broccoli heads only in the first year of the experiment. However, the content of kaempferol increased in both years of the experiment. The biostimulants considerably affected the total phenolic content, the amount of quercetin as well as the amounts of ferulic and sinapic acids after the second or third day of storage, but only in the first or second year of the experiment. Conclusions. The biostimulants increased the content of phenolic compounds, but this effect was different in both years of the experiment. The total phenolic content and phenolic acids content increased with the length of storage. Kałużewicz, A., Gąsecka, M., Spiżewski, T. (2018). The manor park in Mały Buczek in Lipka Forest District was founded in the 18th century. In 1983 it was registered as a monument because of its valuable, rich dendroflora and historical value. It was a private property, but now it is owned by the state. The aim of the study was to analyse the state of the dendroflora in the park. Material and methods. The park was inventoried in 2014. The circumferences and heights of trees with a diameter of 15 cm were measured and their health was assessed. The area occupied by shrubs (m2) was measured with a measuring tape. Trees with creepers were marked. Monumental trees were located. Results. There were 66 taxa of trees, shrubs and vines of 25 families in the park. More than a half of them were of foreign origin (kenophytes). 2,257 specimens were inventoried. Most of them (85%) were in good or very good health. The common yew (Taxus baccata) was the only protected species growing in the park. Conclusions. Currently the park is in satisfactory state and it has valuable and diverse dendroflora. 145 magnificent trees, including 68 with monumental circumferences, are the greatest attraction of the park. Following the assumptions of the park revitalisation plan, it would be necessary to shape the dendroflora and spatial layout adequately so as to preserve the historical character of the park.","PeriodicalId":366305,"journal":{"name":"Nauka Przyroda Technologie","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114590597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
