Faults in fuel installations are the most common cause of failure or inability to perform operational scenarios adequately. Identification of injector damage is severe as small engines are not equipped with indicators and thermocouples to measure the overall exhaust gas temperature in the exhaust manifold. The paper presents a vibration method for assessing the technical condition of a fuel installation. The proposed method is non-invasive and allows the indication of a damaged injector within a relatively short time. The paper presents simulation results verified with stand-bed tests. The research aimed to show the sensitivity and uniqueness of vibration symptoms to changes in the technical condition of fuel injection pumps. The conducted experiment confirmed the possibility of using vibration tests in the professional diagnostics of the fuel installation. These results are essential for the use of marine engines that do not have indicator valves.","PeriodicalId":366194,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Maritime & Transportation Science","volume":"200 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133903691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, the aim of this study was to compare sardine and anchovy growth parameters: length, length-weight relationship, condition and age population structure. All samples (N=3313) were collected from purse seine catches of eastern Adriatic Sea, during period June 2015 – August 2016. Total lengths of sardine and anchovy ranged from 10.5 to 17.5 cm (average ± SD: 13.94 cm ± 1.07) and from 10.0 to 17.5 cm (average ± SD: 14.09 cm ± 0.88), respectively. Both sardine and anchovy length-weight relationship indicated positive allometry, although allometric coefficient was higher in anchovy (b=3.201) than in sardine (b=3.069). In general, condition of both species grew with fish length. Sardine and anchovy age composition varied from one to five years, while most of the analysed samples belonged to the 3 year class. Growth parameters were for anchovy: L∞=18.36cm; K=0.317; t0= -1.89 and for sardine L∞=19.71 cm; K=0.286; t0= -1.82.","PeriodicalId":366194,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Maritime & Transportation Science","volume":"213 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121236830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Composites appear in vast number of fibre – matrix combinations and can be produced with several different production processes. Due to the specific nature of the composite material structure, the selection of the production process and the limitations in the quality control procedures, composite materials will always be subject to defects and imperfections which may, under certain circumstances, lead to the appearance and propagation of cracks. The size and the shape of the crack, the load type and the stress field in the material surrounding the crack will be crucial for crack growth and crack propagation. This paper reviews the composite material damage processes especially relevant for shipbuilding. The basic principles of composite material fracture mechanics are briefly explained, and finally, mechanisms responsible for the development of damage and fracture of composite materials are presented. This paper has emerged from the need to summarize information about composite material fracture and failure mechanisms and modes relevant for the shipbuilding industry.","PeriodicalId":366194,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Maritime & Transportation Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129209918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nikola Čolak had started this project in 1956 in Zadar and was developing it for the next 40 years, exploring all the relevant archives on both coasts of the Adriatic that were relevant for not only Croatian history but for everyone else participating in this trade (Italians, Jews, and many others). After the 3rd volume of the Croatian Maritime Regesta was published in 2017, two historians decided to continue, in collaboration with other Croatian and foreign researchers, the publication of the aforementioned series by publishing the 4th volume of this series. The project introduces, as the innovation to the original project, the use of modern technologies related to the processing of digitized data as to allow everyone free access to hitherto unpublished archival sources in regesto as well as in extenso, depending on the importance of the document.","PeriodicalId":366194,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Maritime & Transportation Science","volume":"2017 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130826502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many researches dealing with the noise modelling, differing in their purpose, studied influence and the scope of the research, either in geographical terms or in the terms of studied noise sources. The objective of this paper is to give insight in the current state on the field of negative influence that noise has on the environment and/ or human health. Special attention was given to the influence that ports’ noise pollution has on the surroundings, both on the population and on the environment. Within the influence on the environment, underwater noise, which is often excluded when the main priority is the influence on general population, was also included. As it is one of the main tools for analysing the influence of noise, several examples of assessing the influence of the noise using noise maps are presented. Several objectives of the EU Horizon 2020 project (PIXEL), dealing with the reduction of ports’ pollution, were covered. The segment of the project dealing with the noise is linked with the previous achievements, which forms the basis to give some guidelines for the further research of the noise influence on the environment.","PeriodicalId":366194,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Maritime & Transportation Science","volume":"8 7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133327844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Marine seismic survey is a process that generally includes sending seismic waves into seabed and recording the intensity and travel time of reflected seismic waves to determine the subsurface features of the Earth. Different methods, equipment and techniques are used to conduct a survey, from sea surface seismic arrays to seabed local seismic station networks. In this paper different widely used seismic methods are presented, together with their advantages and drawbacks. Furthermore, new methods that are being developed and tested for future approach to more advanced and efficient seismic exploration are presented.","PeriodicalId":366194,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Maritime & Transportation Science","volume":"230 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123110798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the most well-known SME materials, our study focuses on Ni-Ti and Cu- based alloys. An example of the existing fabrication presents casting of Ni-Ti in the form of a disk, and a new approach – continuous casting of Ni-Ti and CuAlNi alloys in the form of rods. In the article some results are shown of characterisation of microstructure and the basic properties. This was done in accordance with the fact that such scientific approach could define the starting point for further identification of the functional characteristics of these alloys by knowing the their chemical content and microstructure. Numerous studies are being carried out today in order to find the optimal functional characteristics of SME alloys. All of this is aimed at optimising the fabrication of these alloys, with the achievement of suitable properties for application in shipbuilding.","PeriodicalId":366194,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Maritime & Transportation Science","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134014088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
