Patients filled in a standardized ACT questionnaire about their asthma symptoms, whereas parental smoking data were derived from a questionnaire filled in by the parents. The answers were structured as ordinal and categorical variables. The non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test were performed.Results −There are statistically significant differences in the frequency of asthma symptoms in children depending on whether household members smoked cigarettes, with statistically significant differences in the frequency of asthma symptoms in children depending on whether their parents smoked cigarettes outside the house, only in one/certain room or everywhere in the house. 34.1% of smoking parents vs 9.4% of nonsmoking parents allow smoking in a car while the child is riding in it. 40.9% of parents who smoke vs 21.9% of non-smoking parents believe that their child is exposed to tobacco smoke somewhere other than in their household or car.Conclusion − TSE is associated with more symptoms and worse asthma control in asthmatic children.","PeriodicalId":36516,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Paediatrics","volume":"111 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80972210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials andMethods − The subjects who participated in this study were emerging adults (18-29 years of age) from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. For this study, the equivalent pairs method was used - participants who had experienced the death of a parent were matched with those who had not experienced such a loss in relation to the variables of sex, age, and socioeconomic status, comprising a sample of 29 pairs, i.e., 58 subjects - 50 women and 8 men. The research was conducted via an online questionnaire. Participants completed the Psychosomatic Symptoms Questionnaire, CORE-OM questionnaire for evaluation of general psychopathological difficulties, and were asked to rate their satisfaction with their physical and mental health.Results − The results show no statistically significant difference between the two groups in the levels of satisfaction with physical health, the presence of physical symptoms, and the presence of general psychopathological difficulties. A statistically significant difference was found between the groups in the level of satisfaction with mental health - those who had experienced the loss of a parent reported lower satisfaction with their mental health. The experience of the loss of a parent explained their mental health satisfaction level, above the results of the standardized measures of mental health.Conclusion − The results indicate the need for assessing levels of satisfaction with mental health beyond the assessment of levels of general psychopatological symptoms when working with adults who experienced the early death of a parent.","PeriodicalId":36516,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Paediatrics","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80949305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All neonates had a long NICU stay, but were clinically well before undergoing the procedure. Cases 1, 2 and 3 developed multifocal seizure-like abnormal movements after receiving a midazolam injection for photocoagulation therapy for retinopathy of prematurity. Case 4 developed multifocal seizure-like abnormal movements after receiving an injection of midazolam for seizures. In all the cases the seizure-like abnormal movements were controlled by phenobarbitone.Conclusion − Midazolam is increasingly being used in NICUs, but caution must be exercised while administering it in preterm neonates with comorbidities. It is difficult to identify the neonates at risk, but it is necessary to be aware of and cautious about the adverse effects of midazolam when administering the drug.","PeriodicalId":36516,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Paediatrics","volume":"41 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86672535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Respiratory syncytial virus was the major causative agent before the pandemic, while after the lockdown no more cases were reported. There were no significant differences between the two periods regarding the number of patients requiring treatment with oxygen (P=0.705), non-invasive (P=0.842) and invasive ventilation (P=0.574), or in terms of median hospital stay (P=0.670) and the duration of non-invasive (P=0.350) and invasive ventilation (P=0.556), while the difference in the duration of treatment with oxygen was statistically significant (P=0.048).Conclusions − A decline was found in the number of newborns hospitalized due to respiratory syncytial virus and non-respiratory syncytial virus lower respiratory tract infections during the COVID-19. Our results strongly suggest that social distancing and other lockdown strategies were effective in slowing down the spread of respiratory syncytial virus and decreasing the need for hospitalization among newborns, but may be not equally effective for all agents causing lower respiratory tract infections.","PeriodicalId":36516,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Paediatrics","volume":"9 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72574463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods − This was a cross-sectional study conducted with N=1,023 using questionnaires developed to identify the domain of inquiry into Pandalungan local wisdom, which is strongly related to spirituality, structure, function, and family development tasks. Multiple factors of the psychometric were examined using construct validity with exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), as well as content validity using Content Validity Index (CVI). Additionally, internal consistency was explored using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Results – The EFA results showed eleven factors including family faith and beliefs, communication, values and norms, role, decision making, affective, socialization, economy, reproduction, health care, and development tasks with 52 items accounting for 62.13% of explained variance and the CFA fit for the construct validity of Caring Adolescent with Local Wisdom. Furthermore, the CVI indicated adequate content validity ranging from 0.80 – 0.10 and high internal consistency of 0.98. Conclusion – The psychometric scale contains valid, reliable, and robust measures, but the domain of family healthcare exhibited slightly low internal consistency, thereby demonstrating the need for further investigations.","PeriodicalId":36516,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Paediatrics","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42238419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
