In addition, the invariance of this model was examined across different age groups and health conditions. Methods – Self-report questionnaires on the aforementioned variables were administered to a sample of 312 children, preadolescents and adolescents with chronic health conditions (asthma, epilepsy, and cerebral palsy) and 118 healthy controls. Univariate and multivariate analyses of covariance were conducted to examine differences in prosocial behaviors and psychological maladjustment, respectively. AMOS computational tool was used for path analysis-based mediation. Multigroup analyses were performed to test the invariance of the structural model. Results – There were no differences in the reported levels of prosocial behavior of children and youths with and without chronic health conditions. The association between prosocial behaviors and QoL was mediated by externalizing problems. The invariance of the proposed model was observed across health conditions and age groups. Conclusions – Interventions targeting prosocial behaviors may improve QoL outcomes in children and youths, through the prevention or mitigation of externalizing psychological problems, regardless of their age group or the presence/absence of a chronic health condition.","PeriodicalId":36516,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Paediatrics","volume":"16 1","pages":"182-199"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44605612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Case report – A 9-yearold girl with a medical history of surgical correction of clubfoot three months earlier presented to our department with an incidentally detected abdominal mass during diagnostic workup for orthopedic surgery. A CT scan revealed a solid right extra-adrenal mass measuring 7×6 cm. It was compressing/involving the infrahepatic part of inferior vena cava, right renal vein and artery with an incomplete encasing of the abdominal aorta. The surgery was successfully performed. The histopathological analysis confirmed GN. Conclusions – Although pediatric extra-adrenal retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma (GN) are rare, their propensity for enveloping major blood vessels is not. GNs should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any circumscribed retroperitoneal mass. These tumors can be successfully treated with surgery that leads to an excellent outcome, even in case of incomplete resections with tumor residuals <2 cm.","PeriodicalId":36516,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Paediatrics","volume":"16 1","pages":"140-146"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43523646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods – Retrospectiveprospective study was conducted at the Clinic for Children’s Diseases, University Clinical Center Tuzla in the period from January 2018 to January 2020. The medical records of children treated CRMO were analyzed. Results – Eight children fulfilled the Bristol diagnostic criteria. The median age at disease onset was 10.7 years. All children had multifocal lesions which relapsed in 2 children, and predominantly affected regions were the pelvis, hips, femur, spine and shoulder girdle. Hematological and biochemical parameters were unremarkable, although ESR was elevated in 6/8 children; all children had CRP<30 mg/L. For 3 children lesions on plain radiography were observed; 49 lesions were verified on MRI (4 children had whole body MRI). Bone biopsy was performed in 2 children and it showed inflammatory changes. In 6/8 children treatment with NSAIDs was sufficient to control the disease during the 8-month period. However, two children had pain resistant to NSAID therapy, so they were treated with methotrexate and sulfasalazine. The child who received sulfasalazine treatment relapsed, so TNFα inhibitor (adalimumab) was used to control disease activity. No child received pamidronate. Conclusions – Our results showed that the use of the Bristol diagnostic criteria may obviate the need for a biopsy, shorten the time of diagnosis, save the bone from destruction, and avoid unnecessary treatments.","PeriodicalId":36516,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Paediatrics","volume":"16 1","pages":"101-112"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43678278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results suggested that children with CP more often visited general practitioners as well as specialist physicians at primary, secondary and tertiary health care level compared to adults with CP. Nevertheless, there was no appreciable difference between children and adults with CP in terms of the admissions to the emergency department (1). Similar to all former Yugoslav republics, all permanent residents in Denmark have universal health care access and a unique personal identification number through which each individual could be traced within the health care system. Organized and systematic data collection by means of registers, such as the National Patient Register or the National Health Service Register in Denmark (2) allows for an almost complete insight into the patterns of health care utilization and needs of specific groups as well as the population as a whole. Methods − From January to June 2014, we recruited a total of 98 children with AD and their parents who presented at the Clinic of Dermatovenereology, Clinical Center of Serbia, Belgrade, Serbia. The parents filled in a questionnaire. The severity of AD was assessed using the SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) Index. Results − Of 98 parents, 33 (33.7%) reported having history of AD. In children with parental history of AD, the prevalence of allergic rhinitis and asthma was 18.2% and 24.2%, respectively. In children without parental history of AD, the prevalence of allergic rhinitis and asthma was 12.3% and 23.1%, respectively. Adjusted logistic regression analyses showed that: neither mothers’ nor fathers’ history AD were associated with presence of allergic rhinitis or asthma; fathers’ history of asthma was associated with presence of asthma and mothers’ history of asthma was associated with presence of allergic rhinitis. Fathers’ history of allergic rhinitis was associated with presence of allergic rhinitis and mothers’ history of allergic rhinitis was associated with presence of asthma. Conclusion − Our findings suggest that, compared to parental history of AD, parental history of asthma and allergic rhinitis were stronger contributors to the presence of atopic comorbid disorders in children with AD.","PeriodicalId":36516,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Paediatrics","volume":"16 1","pages":"18-29"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49412865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This may influence long-term growth, development and health of the child. The aim of this study was to define the influence of maternal body weight (BW) on offspring growth in early childhood. Materials and Methods − 162 Slovenian mothers and their children were included in the study and subsequent analysis. We collected information on anthropometric measurements of mothers prior to and during pregnancy, and of their children (BW, length, head circumference (HC)) up to the age of three. To perform statistical analysis, the Pearson correlation test, linear regression and F-test were utilized. Results − A statistically significant association between the mother’s BW and newborn BW (P<0.01) and offspring BW up to three years of age (P< 0.05) was found. Linear regression showed a positive association between the mother’s BW and the newborn’s BW (P<0.01) and child's BW at one year of age (P<0.05). Additionally, a significant association between the mother's BW and children's HC at the age of 9 months (P<0.05) was determined and further confirmed by regression analysis. Conclusion − The study findings bring to light an important link between maternal BW and offspring growth in early childhood. Furthermore, the findings confirm the relevance of preventive strategies for improving the awareness of the importance of maternal health during pregnancy and the impact it can have on offspring growth.","PeriodicalId":36516,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Paediatrics","volume":"16 1","pages":"10-17"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46338164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
