In 2020 there is a 22.63% drop in reported injuries compared to 2019, according to the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Social and Veterans Affairs Work Report for 2020 and 2019. Nonetheless, this trend should not overshadow another disturbing trend in the workplace – that the number of life-changing injuries and fatalities has been on a much slower regression. While it is encouraging that the total reported incident rate is decreasing, the next step for safety excellence and the one Serbian Ministry currently strives to achieve, is the elimination of life-changing injuries and fatalities in the workplace. The paper presents an overview of life-changing injury and fatality prevention and how it is addressed by using incident and near miss data. The presented analyses will add benefit to the prevention improvement of life-changing injuries and fatalities.","PeriodicalId":363723,"journal":{"name":"Quality of Life (Banja Luka) - APEIRON","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124249302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We assessed the incidence of febrile neutropenia induced by chemotherapy. Data from a retrospective study on the application of chemotherapy protocols in breast cancer patients was reviewed. Analyzing the data, we can see that out of 81 patients who received chemotherapy, 43 were diagnosed with neutropenia and 4 or 9.3% of those patients were diagnosed with neutropenia again despite prophylaxis with Granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF). In 4 or 9.3% of patients, further administration of that chemotherapy protocol had to be stopped due to severity of neutropenia and complications they caused. During the treatment, grade IV neutropenia was diagnosed in 27 or 63% of patients while grade I neutropenia was diagnosed in 2 or 4.65% of patients. Anemia associated with neutropenia was also diagnosed in 7 or 16.3% of patients while pancytopenia was diagnosed in 4 or 9.3% of patients, and thrombocytopenia associated with neutropenia was diagnosed in only one patient. The hazard ratio of febrile neutropenia presence compared to the absence of such toxicity was adjusted. The cox model was 0.75 (confidence interval 95% 0.54-0.95; P=0,0189) for grade I neutropenia, 0.63 (0.50-0.78; P0,0001) for grade II neutropenia and 0.71 (0.51-0.98; P=0.3888) for grades III and IV neutropenia. These results suggest that the occurrence of neutropenia during chemotherapy is an independent predictor of increased survival in breast cancer patients, while the absence of such toxicity indicates that the drug doses are not sufficient. Monitoring of febrile neutropenia in patients treated with chemotherapy may contribute to improved drug efficacy and better survival rate.","PeriodicalId":363723,"journal":{"name":"Quality of Life (Banja Luka) - APEIRON","volume":"221 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121285975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The primary parameters of the samples are determined, such as: granulometric composition, specific mass and volume mass in different compacted condition. The secondary physical characteristics are followed, which are a consequence of the previously listed, which are the porosity of the samples and the capillary characteristics. These, further define the following characteristics of the media: maximum water permeability, characteristics of the water transport process and heat transfer through the examined sample layer. Simultaneously, the changes of temperature and moisture at a defined point of the experimental layers are monitored (under appropriate experimental conditions, namely, an emphasized / amplified ΔT is set) and the phenomena are explained.","PeriodicalId":363723,"journal":{"name":"Quality of Life (Banja Luka) - APEIRON","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129004730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the entire life cycle of waste, starting from waste generation, through storage, collection, transport, recycling, treatment and disposal, several different pollutants are emitted. By disposing solid waste, non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) emits various pollutants into the air such as CO2, CO, NMVOC, PM, PAHs, heavy metals, etc. These substances can pose certain problems for human health and the environment. The subject of this study is the calculation of air emissions of CO2, CH4, N2O, NMVOC, PM10, CO, Cd, Cr and PAHs (chrysene and benz[a]anthracene) from NRMM which are included in the activities of receiving and disposing of waste at the Banja Luka landfill. The study evaluates the emission of pollutants using the EEA guidelines for the assessment of the emission of pollutants into the air, based on the consumption of diesel fuel during the year. This study, which is based on the calculation of NRMM emissions at the Banja Luka landfill, should serve as an example not only to other landfills but also to sectors that use NRMM on the importance of keeping track of pollutant emissions. The goal is to look at these emissions and introduce changes and improvements in this sector by replacing old NRMMs with new ones, optimizing operation, using diesel of satisfactory quality, etc.","PeriodicalId":363723,"journal":{"name":"Quality of Life (Banja Luka) - APEIRON","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116035039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Workers who work at the MSW landfill may be exposed to risk due to the inhalation of substances such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Although VOCs account for 1% in landfill gas, they are important because of the high level of toxicity associated with them. Regular monitoring of air quality and risk assessment provides important information in protecting the health of workers at the landfill. This study focuses on a health risk assessment related to VOCs (benzene, toluene and xylene) exposure via inhalation for workers at a landfill Banja Luka, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additionally, cancer risk and non-cancer risk of benzene, toluene and xylene of workers indicated that occupational exposures were above recommended standard. Home-grown school feeding is an intervention programme designed for school aged children in order to eradicate hunger, increase enrolment, improve pupils’ nutritional value and pupils’ cognitive development whereas these objectives have not be achieved. Therefore, aim of the study is to holistically review the challenges faced in the implementation of home-grown school feeding programme among primary school pupils in Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Mali) and ways of solving these challenges. The paper also reviewed the concept of home-grown school feeding and its challenges. A qualitative research design of systematic search strategy type was used to gathered information in different databases and journals. In the course of the study, the researchers discovered that the programme is faced with the issues of corruption due non- remittance of regular fund to the school vendors and underfunding of the programmes. Other penitent issues include: low and inadequate storage facilities, political interferences, inadequate nutritional meals and low level of implementation. The researchers recommended that caterers should be trained by dieticians on the type of food to prepare for pupils’ and also government should set up a monitoring team to supervise the home-grown school feeding programme for proper implementation in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Mali and other Sub-Sahara Africa Countries.","PeriodicalId":363723,"journal":{"name":"Quality of Life (Banja Luka) - APEIRON","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130224070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim: Examine the effects of physical activity on changes in glycemic parameters (glucose, HbA1C) and inflammatory parameters (leukocyte count (WBC), CRP) before and one month after the exercise program. Material and Methods: The study was designed as a prospective, analytical, and observational study. Results: T-test of paired samples assessed the impact of physical activity on glycemic and inflammatory parameters in subjects with confirmed Diabetes mellitus type 2 and in subjects without confirmed diabetes mellitus type 2. In subjects with confirmed diabetes the value of eta squared (ɳ2 - eta sqared) is 95%, which indicates a significant impact of physical activity on the change in glucose values and on the change of HbA1C value was indicated by the value of eta square of 93%. When it comes to inflammatory parameters, the impact of physical activity was found in the reduced number of WBC (ɳ2 = 88%), and in CRP (ɳ2 = 90%). In subjects without confirmed diabetes mellitus, a significant effect of physical activity on the change in glucose (ɳ2 = 94%) and HbA1C (ɳ2 = 77%). The influence of physical activity on the reduction of leukocyte count was proven by ɳ2 - eta sqared test (ɳ2 = 66%), as well as a decrease in CRP (ɳ2 = 30%). Conclusion: This study showed a significant impact of physical activity on the reduction of elevated glycemic and inflammatory parameters.","PeriodicalId":363723,"journal":{"name":"Quality of Life (Banja Luka) - APEIRON","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126733613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this research, we aim to determine the knowledge about the risk factors for NCDs, as well as socio-demographic differences in the effectiveness of health education materials in disease prevention. Instrument was prepared according to methodological guidelines for population health risks survey (Eurostat, 2018) and knowledge and attitudes related to NCD questionnaire survey. Sample size included 210 participants of both genders (Nmale= 105, Nfemale= 105) systematically selected, residents of Belgrade, Republic of Serbia, who did not have diagnosed chronic non-communicable diseases and used services at primary health care centre Zvezdara. Research results indicate that 27% of all participants had one or more health educational activities in the last six months. More than two thirds of respondents (71%) know that tobacco usage is the leading cause of cardiovascular diseases, but 54,8% know that cause malignant diseases. More than two thirds of respondents know that inadequate nutritional habits, consumption of industrial products and sweets and low vegetable intake cause cardiovascular diseases and more than half of them know that inadequate nutritional habits causes malignant diseases. Statistically significance difference between groups of participants based on level of education are obtained in attitudes towards the effectiveness of health education material in the prevention of malignant diseases (F= 3.396, p .05), diabetes (F= 3.611, p .05) and respiratory diseases (F= 3.483, p .05) and socio-economic differences in the use of printed and video materials in the prevention of NCDs.
