Network control systems are subjected to delay time uncertainties due to the load traffic in the networks. As the PID controller is a major control algorithm in industries, this paper proposes a LMI based robust Hinfin PID controller using robust integral backstepping method to compensate the delay time uncertainties. To design using robust integral backstepping method, the plant and the PID controller are represented as a full state feedback control system in state space representation. The obtained parameters can then be used in the installed PID controller in the network based industrial control systems.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123548440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ultra wideband (UWB) technology based on the use of very narrow pulses on the order of nanoseconds, covering a very wide bandwidth in the frequency domain, could be a possible solution to this problem. UWB is a wireless technology developed to transfer data at high rates over very short distances at very low power densities and an area of immense current interest, with numerous potential applications. This paper presents the currently UWB technology and its potential applications. How this technology implemented without causing interference to other existing communication is also discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of this technology are looked into deep as well.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124480162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We report the role of the holes in tuning the waveguide dispersion and the single/multi-modeness of the particular fiber. By correctly selecting the hole's size and position, a single-mode fiber with a relatively flat and low dispersion in the S-band of the third telecom window was obtained. We also report the observation of a mode-type which has never been reported before for ordinary fibers, which we label as a \"ring\" mode. This mode exists as a consequence of structural symmetry breaking due to the inclusion of the microstructural holes.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127382046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Users can improve their perceived QOS by using the terminal-controlled handover decision in a single device equipped with multiple radio interfaces. The IEEE 802.21 aims at providing a framework that defines Media Independent Handover (MIH) mechanism that supports seamless handover across heterogeneous networks. In this paper, we propose a handover decision algorithm using MIH services in Wi-Fi and WiMAX networks with QOS provision. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides smaller handover times and lower dropping rate than the basic vertical handover method.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125350562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To the best knowledge of authors, this is the first paper that evaluates the suitability of IEEE 802.15.4 MAC in mobile sensor networks environment. We evaluate the performance based on node's speed and beacon order, and observe the effect on energy usage, packet delivery ratio and time required to associate with its coordinator. From the experiment we observe that the moving nodes experienced serious problems in association and synchronization and show results on energy usage, throughput , association and reassociation rate with different speeds of moving node. We also identify some key research problems that need to be addressed for successful implementations of IEEE 802.15..4 in mobile sensor networks environment.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126793299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This progress provides the opportunity to integrate these state of the art results into real-time networks, so that the analysis time for the feasibility of periodic messages is reduced. In this paper, we employ such advancement in the widely studied IEEE 802.5 protocol for scheduling real-time packets. Our technique avoids false points, the point (time) at which a particular packet is not schedulable, that arise during feasibility analysis and eventually the analysis is done more efficiently.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126334410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a metric of comparison, so-called the normalized spectral efficiency (NSE), is derived to compare, as a whole, the performance and system efficiency of these two schemes. The NSE of the conventional single-rate on-off-keying (OOK) O-CDMA scheme is also derived for a baseline comparison. Our numerical results show that the MC scheme always has larger NSE than the single-rate OOK scheme, while the MK scheme has the largest NSE under certain conditions.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121171928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However usage of end-to-end IPSec algorithms in VPNs, affects the TCP PEP's function as the encryption schemes hide the TCP header. One approach applicable to TCP PEPs is to generate a cryptographic hash of flow identification information. We propose a header compression method to improve the performance of the satellite based VPNs, using a similar hash value.
