The methodology used in the work is the doctrinal research method. The doctrinal method of research introduces into the search: books, legal propositions, doctrines and statutes, etc, while relying on the physical library and the internet. The study discovered that many Nigerians are not aware that health care providers could be held liable for medical negligence. The research was able to establish that the relationship between patient, doctors and other health givers is central in providing health care services globally. Thus, the research recommended the creation of awareness on this after sufficiently highlighting the remedies available when in breach of same.Keywords: Doctor-patient relationship, liabilities, breaches, remedies","PeriodicalId":362748,"journal":{"name":"Lwati: a journal of contemporary research","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115680850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at .05 level of significance. The population of the study comprised of all adult male and female in the area of the study. A sample size of four hundred and seventy (470) respondents was drawn from the population of four thousand seven hundred (4700) using the stratified and simple random sampling technique. A four point modified Likert scale questionnaire titled “Environmental Awareness Creation through the Mass Media and Sustainable Forest Management Questionnaire” (EACTMMSFMQ) was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by two experts in the Department of Test and Measurement in the University of Calabar. The instrument was administered personally by the researchers with the help of two trained research assistants in the area of the study. The data was analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and a post hoc analysis using fishers’ least significance difference (FLSD). The results of the analysis revealed that environmental awareness creation through the mass media (print and electronic media) significantly influence sustainable forest management in the area of the study. Based on the results of the study it was recommended that the government and environmental conservation agencies should make concerted effort to ensure that there is adequate awareness creation on sustainable forest management through the mass media. More so, the media should ensure that information on sustainable forest management is far reaching and widely spread to the forest communities.Keywords: Environmental Awareness Creation, Mass Media, Sustainable Forest Management, Ogoja, Cross River State, Nigeria","PeriodicalId":362748,"journal":{"name":"Lwati: a journal of contemporary research","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114041854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It should also influence the behaviour of persons. That is why the Nigerian Broadcasting Code describes broadcasting as “a most potent mass medium,” capable of reaching out to audiences simultaneously and availing man with the best means of information dissemination and reception, thereby enabling the individuals to share in, and to contribute to the best of their ability to the progress of the world around them. According to the Nigerian Broadcasting Code, “by means of broadcasting, every Nigerian is expected to partake of ideas and experiences, that will enrich their lives and help them to live in a complex, dynamic and humane society (4).” This means that broadcasting in Nigeria should not only influence societal values positively, it should also improve and strengthen the social, cultural, economic, political and technological values of the nation and indeed set agenda for the public good. In the course of the study, Nkoli’s naivety and lack of foresight, her husband’s gross selfishness and heartlessness and the country’s attitudes towards women are projected as the major causes of her hardship. Even when she becomes aware of her problems and their sources, she lacks that will-power to fight for her freedom to liberate herself from the culture that is set in the interest of men’s chauvinism. There is a reversal of fortune which eventually liberates the protagonist and subjects the evil perpetrators to shame thereby making justice to prevail at the end.","PeriodicalId":362748,"journal":{"name":"Lwati: a journal of contemporary research","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126922694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each of these novels explores problems that mar family relationships in Igbo traditional society. Ubesie's Isi Akwụ Dara N'ala portrays how a family can be destabilized by war, and a marriage can be ruined by a wife's unbridled waywardness and promiscuity. Nzeako's Jụọchi exposes how a wife's arrogance and negligence of her domestic responsibil- ity, as well as a husband's moral laxity can destabilize a family. Nzeako's Nkọlị explores how co-wives' bitter rivalry and acrimony disrupt harmonious and cordial relationships in a po- lygamous family, and are sometimes occasioned by inimical external forces. Finally, Madụekwe's Uru Nwa depicts how a man's distrust and allegations of infidelity against his wife can lead to a broken home. Uru Nwa also shows how a female child doggedly playing a manly role can reunite her parents. These and other attributes of Igbo family life, highlighted by each of the novelists, show that Igbo novels depict a range of human social behavior.","PeriodicalId":362748,"journal":{"name":"Lwati: a journal of contemporary research","volume":"164 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133487132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This was done to justify Western preconceived notion of economic and technological superiority. This paper uses the local salt industry of Ogoja Province in the colonial period to show the fallacy of this notion. It avers that in spite of the use of all instruments of coercion, and importation of salt from Europe to stifle the local salt industry, the latter not only was able to absorb the strain but also survived the challenges and thrived within the period of this study. The paper also highlights the degree of specialization among the various players in the industry.
