I want to show that, from the 2004 Halotti Pompa to the poet’s death, certain works of art feature prominently in his oeuvre. These images enter into dialogue not only with the literary texts, but also with the most important issues of the creative period and with each other, thanks to the internal logic of the corpus. My paper attempts to map the functioning of these relations. First, I will review some of the defining aspects of Borbély’s works, which characterize the second phase of the author’s career in a comprehensive way and can provide adequate basis for interpreting the pictures. Then I reverse the direction of interpretation and try to place the works of art on the intellectual horizon of the Borbély texts. With this back-and-forth analysis, I would like to show that the images under study function as emblems of the individual volumes and the oeuvre.","PeriodicalId":36251,"journal":{"name":"Literatura","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139321002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In his attempts to revive Scottish literature, MacDiarmid combined ideas of political nationalism with communism in his own way. The latter opened doors for him during his visit to Hungary in 1959, when he met József Szili in person. Szili later published a two-part study on MacDiarmid in Filológiai Közlöny (Philological Notes), Hungary’s foremost journal of literary criticism, and translated several of his poems. I will show how Szili’s study outlines a Marxist interpretive framework for understanding MacDiarmid’s modernist poetics, which sought to reclaim political self-determination and linguistic self-consciousness in Scottish poetry. I will present Szili’s translations of MacDiarmid’s poems and answer the question of how Szili’s interpretation influenced MacDiarmid’s reception in Hungary and how it fits into the critical field of contemporary Scottish MacDiarmid scholarship.","PeriodicalId":36251,"journal":{"name":"Literatura","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139321016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lágerirodalom és a foglyók levelezése (Black Literature, Black Letters. Internment Literature and the Prisoners’ Correspondence) analyzes war literature and directly relevant literature about internment camps, both relating to the First World War. Although the war developed differently in Hungary and Italy, similar features can be found in these texts. In regarding to these aspects, this essay examines some works, starting from the Black Monastery [Fekete kolostor] by Aladár Kuncz and other novels and “reportage novels” ( Siberian garrison [Szibériai garnizon], by Rodion Markovits) of the same period. Their characteristic traits are both distinct and comparable with the Italian works (i.e. Un anno sull’altipiano , by Emilio Lussu, Taccuino di Caporetto, by Carlo Emilio Gadda). The final part of the essay concerns popular writing and its role in literature, based on the experience in internment camps and war literature. It describes studies and research that focus on the correspondence with families and friends of soldiers and internees from many European countries.","PeriodicalId":36251,"journal":{"name":"Literatura","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139320751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Inspirados en algunas ideas y observaciones de Mijaíl Gaspárov y Marco Praloran, revisamos las características de la rima en las obras en octava real de Ludovico Ariosto y Torquato Tasso, y en sus traducciones al español (de Juan de la Pezuela y de Juan Sedeño) y al ruso (de Aleksandr Triandafilidi y de Román Dubrovkin). La comparación entre el uso del artificio de la rima en la misma forma poética, pero en diferentes lenguas, nos permite iluminar cuestiones relacionadas con el tema de \"el verso y la lengua\", así como el problema de la equivalencia formal y funcional en la traducción poética. Demostramos el uso diferenciado de la \"rima fácil\" categorial en los originales italianos y en sus traducciones al español, y la suficiencia del repertorio de rimas del ruso para abordar la forma de la octava. El artículo comienza con una reflexión sobre la historia y los desarrollos actuales de la versología comparada.","PeriodicalId":36251,"journal":{"name":"Literatura","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135812409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We show that, although a binary categorization of languages as syllabic vs. accentual-syllabic fails to fully explain the differences. However, once we formalize accentual regularity as a continuum, our analysis shows that authorship attribution results improve as we move from the most to the least accentually regular languages. This result supports our hypothesis that accentual regularity is an inhibiting factor in authorship attribution as long as accentual regularity is understood as a continuous property.","PeriodicalId":36251,"journal":{"name":"Literatura","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135812539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
