The visual servo system is made up of a single monocular camera mounted on the end-effector, and is to be used by the robot for autonomous location of the satellite. Firstly, using the pyramidal Lucas-Kanade method, optical flow field is extracted from image sequences captured by the camera. The pixel coordinates corresponding to the targeted location in the image frame is marked and registered into the system. The marked pixel coordinates is then converted into the robotic manipulator workspace coordinates. These coordinates are then used to compute the manipulator joint angles. Using the camera to send visual feedback information in closed loop control, the task is repeated until the target is reached.","PeriodicalId":360685,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Space Science and Communication","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123437625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By providing information such as location, direction and speed, GPS is traditionally used for navigation. Nowadays many more applications, from farming, surveying to incident detection in fact fully utilized the GPS. This study accesses GPS signal and determines vehicle location and speed parameter such as maximum speed, maximum acceleration and deceleration. Assessing the GPS signal is important before implementing any application in certain area. The availability and reliability of the GPS are influenced by several variables, for example tall building, geometrical condition and big tree might block the GPS signal and reduce the data quality. It will affect the efficiency of any application based on GPS and become useless. Two types of tests had been setup, static positioning and mobile positioning where GPS probe vehicles were used to collect data in Bandar Baru Bangi, Malaysia trunk roads. The preliminary tests show promising results of availability and reliability percentage, accuracy, number of satellites in view and Horizontal Dilution of Precision values. The next stage of this research will apply the speed parameter obtained for Automated Incident Detection (AID) algorithm.","PeriodicalId":360685,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Space Science and Communication","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132480462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, good signals are essential. Thus, to monitor the condition of the signals, a CATV tester device is needed. CATV tester device is designed to measure the CATV signals which are passing through the optical network unit (ONU) at the user's premises. A single mode optical fiber signal entering the ONU will be obtained by ‘tapping’ method and the signal then will be fed into the CATV tester unit through optical cable connection. The signals will be converted into Audio/Video signal and be fed to display panel. This tester will display the received signal on the display panel; if the signal received by the CATV tester device is accompanied by undesired signals and noises, video displayed would degrade; it will then indicate that the main (FTTH trunk line) is probably damaged and needed to be repaired.","PeriodicalId":360685,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Space Science and Communication","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133031928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this project, Jones 3D Ray Tracing program being used to determine the characteristics of the GPS ray as it propagates through the ionosphere. A numerical mathematical model which is continuous and contains no singularities has been used to represent the actual formation of the ionosphere in 3 dimensional (latitude, longitude and altitude). By using GPS ray tracing, it has been proved that the path of propagation for both L1 and L2 in the ionosphere is different. The point (latitude and longitude) where L1 intersects at IPP is different than the point (latitude and longitude) of intersection of L2. IPP or Ionospheric Pierce Point is the altitude in the ionosphere where the composition of electron density is greatest. It is also shown that the distance between the L1 and L2 at IPP over the equatorial region is greater than in the mid-latitude region. This is due to the difference in the composition of electron density in both these regions and also due to the presence of ionospheric horizontal gradient. In GPS, the presence of ionospheric horizontal gradient can effect the final GPS positioning if its' being ignored, especially the GPS positioning over the equatorial region.","PeriodicalId":360685,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Space Science and Communication","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131625764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Radio astronomy research can be said to have only started being done actively in Malaysia in 2005. Fundamental setup and some basic research were done in the early parts. Jupiter radio bursts as well as radio meteor counting were the first few projects. Currently a medium-sized radio telescope which was recently purchased is being used to undergo more advanced research such as observing spectrum of galaxy clusters in order to study Dark Matter. This paper will also report on the latest results on the survey of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI), which is currently done on chosen candidate sites in Malaysia in order to setup on it a large radio telescope in the future. The best site with the lowest averaged RFI level is found at Langkawi (−100.33 dBm or 4.4 × 106 Jy). The author is the chair for the Radio Astronomy Working Group for the South-East Asia Astronomy Network (SEAAN) and the Malaysian team is very much an important part of this group. This group will eventually be a research hub for the global projects of the Global-Very Long Baseline Interferometer (Global-VLBI) and the Square Kilometre Array (SKA).","PeriodicalId":360685,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Space Science and Communication","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134117659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The observations show obvious decrease in the electron density, temperature, ion velocity and plasma cutoff frequency during the period of solar eclipse particularly between 09:00 and 10:00 UT. The depletion was clearly seen in the E and F1 layers at altitudes below 200 km where in these regions the depletion was synchronous with the eclipse function. In the F2 layer of ionosphere (300–400 km), different response was seen with long period of electron density reduction and reduction in F2 maximum occurred between 10:00 and 15:00 UT. A comparison between the electron and ion temperature response at Tromso station shows a significant decrease in electron temperature only (value of −700 K).","PeriodicalId":360685,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Space Science and Communication","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123831754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Researchers have also developed a convenient dielectric lens antenna with an array feed for wide angle beam scanning. In this paper, the primary technologies used in dielectric lens shaping, array feed design, and fabrication methods of a practical antenna are shown. Further, this wide angle beam scanning antenna is applied to a multi-beam antenna, and its performance is investigated. A novel patch array feed capable of arbitrary polarization is developed. Finally, its application to a metamaterial lens is also investigated. By employing metamaterials, compact antenna sizes can be achieved.","PeriodicalId":360685,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Space Science and Communication","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133408985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experiments have been done in Muon Laboratory and at the rooftop of the Physics Building, Faculty of Science and Technology, UKM Bangi. The method used to carry out the experiments are by using simultaneous muon strikes on two Geiger-Muller (GM) radiation monitors that are arranged in telescopic mode then counts will accumulate in the counter. These commercially-available GM tubes provide simpler, cheaper and convenient alternatives to muon telescope for the detection of muons at ground level. The counts were manually and automatically monitored and data from January 2007 to March 2007 and January 2009 to March 2009 were recorded. The zenith angle distribution of the muon rate has been measured between 0° and 90° in steps of 15°. The muon zenith angle distributions vary with the zenith angle, θ, with roughly a cos2θ shape were described.","PeriodicalId":360685,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Space Science and Communication","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116688297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
