In this paper a new full-optical current sensor is designed. The fiber-optic current sensor is based on the Faraday rotation effect, and moreover, in this paper the mechanism of Faraday rotation effect of cylinder fiber model is explained. In the present research experimental platform has been set up. And then the Comsol software has been used to simulate the system' transmission field, which could be achieved by calculating the transmittance of light propagating through POF. Polymer nanocomposites were used in electronic and electrical engineering as a result of their excellent properties. In this paper, the TiO2 nanoparticles modified by employing surface chemical reaction were introduced into the PI matrix by using in situ polymerization. The in situ polymerization process is helpful to drive the nanoparticles into the PI matrix homogeneously. Space charge distribution in pure PI films and the PI/TiO2 nanocomposite films are measured using the Pulsed Electroacoustic (PEA) method. Two process of space charge measurement were investigated, namely “volts on” and “Decay”. Different types and levels of nanoparticles have been studied to understand the interaction between nanoparticles and polyimide matrix. The addition of nanoparticles has a significant influence on space charge formation, transport and decay process.","PeriodicalId":360527,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2011 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114584027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, a simplified model of PD events of a spherical void within a homogeneous dielectric material has been developed using finite element analysis (FEA) software. The model has been used to study the influence of surface charge distribution on the electric field distribution in the void due to PD events. Surface charge distribution depends on charge propagation along the void surface during a PD occurrence and charge movement along the void wall through surface conduction after a PD occurs. Comparison between measurement and simulation results has been performed to validate the model.","PeriodicalId":360527,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2011 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116922437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper reports our current research progress in developing a new higher rating energy storage device like an electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC). New microporous carbons were systematically prepared by chemical reaction between mineral oil and strong acid, sulphuric acid, in various compositions. The graphitic nature of the produced microporous carbons were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement. Essential electrical properties of the microporous carbons for energy storage application, such as their capacitive behavior, were investigated by cyclic voltammetry measurements. In order to observe the frequency characteristics of the microporous carbons, one of the most important analytical tools known as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used. The experimental results of the XRD and electrochemical measurements are presented in forms of graphical plot.","PeriodicalId":360527,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2011 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123623597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The samples were used to perform the breakdown test. The ac breakdown measurements were conducted at a ramp rate of 50V/s at room temperature. Weibull plot is used to analyze the ac breakdown result. Comparing the soaked and un-soaked samples, it does show a small change in the characteristic breakdown strength as the LDPE film were soaked into the sample depending on the byproducts. It suggests that the breakdown strength is modified by adding the byproducts in the LDPE film. However, as the range of breakdown strength of all samples are to be compared, these values fall in the same region which indicate no significant difference can be seen in the samples. AC Pulsed Electroacoustic (PEA) technique was used to measure space charge in the samples. The result obtained from this test is used to explain the breakdown phenomena in the crosslinking byproduct soaked LDPE and space charge characteristics.","PeriodicalId":360527,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2011 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115157993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A water tree is composed of small droplets filled with water. As the conductivity in water tree is very high, it leads to dielectric breakdown when it grows up. As inside the water tree is filled with trap sites, it is poled with a certain distribution of relaxation time, when a poling voltage is applied. Although its depolarization process after removing the poling voltage is determined by ambient temperature, applying a “depolarizing voltage” with the opposite polarity can accelerate the relaxation process. If a short pulse propagating through the cable is employed as a depolarization voltage, we may locate the water tree by looking at the time-resolved pulse response. This would lead to a diagnosing method with spatial resolution. In order to retain 100 m of spatial resolution, the response should be as sharp as 1 μs. Based on the feasibility study with preliminary experiment, we constructed a measurement system for cable with a long length. In order to upgrade sensitivity and resolution, we introduced several techniques like noise canceling and digital signal processing. The degraded point in a 400 m mimic cable line was successively located.","PeriodicalId":360527,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2011 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials","volume":"217 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114678617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spectral intensity measurements of reflected light from a sample coated with epoxy resin show that optical coherence tomography using near-infrared light and THz waves can detect the hidden rest region. This region can be reproduced by so-called THz imaging without contact. Since rust exhibits strong absorption in the frequency range from 1 to 5 THz, the absorption coefficient can be used to estimate the rust state with high sensitivity. In contrast, neither X-ray fluorescence nor Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy can detect the rust, because of the strong X-ray and IR peaks of the coating. Electro-chemical impedance measurement, which is one of the promising diagnostic methods, judges the water blocking ability of the coating. The impedance value and THz absorption due to rust shows good correlation until the amount of water in the film reaches its maximum.","PeriodicalId":360527,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2011 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125903298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Introducing a kind of machinable ceramic with excellent machinable performance and good surface electrical capability into vacuum insulation system, and considering the commonly used truncated cone structure, machinable ceramic samples with different coning angles are machined. Their surface flashover voltage are investigated under pulsed voltage in vacuum, and the electric field distributions and surface charge density of different coning angles are numerically simulated. The experimental results indicate that, the flashover voltage of cone insulators is higher than that of cylindrical insulators, the flashover voltage of truncated cone samples with positive coning angle is much higher than that of with negative coning angles, and the flashover voltage with ~45° conical frustum is highest. It is considered that, the coning angle plays an important role on the electric field of cathode triple junction (CTJ) and surface charge distribution. When the coning angle is positive, the electric field of CTJ and surface charge distribution is smaller, and when the coning angle is negative, these values are bigger, so its higher CTJ electric field and surface charge result in a lower flashover voltage than that with positive angle, and also the short free path of electrons and decreased energy of electrons colliding with insulator surface lead to a higher flashover voltage than that of cylindrical insulators.","PeriodicalId":360527,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2011 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114435785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
